The titular character of this book is a boy who one night finds that he has gained the superpower of the green thumb and the ability to make the plants grow. An evil businessman, mr plumbee, is planning to destroy the old tree and the whole city park, so Timothy stands up against him using his new powers. In this crusade he makes new friends with other gifted children and even manages to save his parents from the clutches of a funny trio of aliens who are helping mr plumbee in his crave for dominion. This saga, a smash hit in italy, is specifically made for children, as Gud, the author, created the story with the help of his 6 years old son. It’s fresh, entertaining and will make any child fight the right battles screaming “KAramazov! like the idols of the protagonist!

The Sphere is a suspended place where fruits are bright and juicy, and the clouds brush the frothy foliages of the trees. The Gudlaks, the magical animals who have to direct for the better the lives of the human beings, live in this land after they have learnt the lessons from the Destiny Sages. Guni, a small unicorn with a funny muzzle, has just been born from a flower of the Life Meadow and, even though he has a lot to learn, he thinks he is ready to inspire the good deeds of a human. So he decides to take the TwisterBus and go to the Earth, getting himself and his friends into trouble: Delpi the bird with glasses, Corrado the little tiger and Printil, a mermaid floating in a water ball. Tauro and Karicola return with a witty and poetic coming-of-age story, reminding us that the steps to really grow never cross easy shortcuts.

THE HEAT OF THE SNOW

Norway, early 90s. Under the cover of silence, four 10-year old boys decide to leave with a secret mission early in the morning. It won’t be an easy journey in the majestic snowy landscapes: among the several obstacles, they will have to cross a frozen lake, they will lose their sled and they will even be caught by a blizzard. With the unravelling of the path, it will become clearer and clearer they are not simply fleeing from home. They are actually engaged in a salvage mission to find Simen’s older brother. Fredrik, in fact, has been running away for days after a fight with his parents, and they want to convince him and come back home. With a line able to recreate all the liveliness of the main characters and pastel colours that perfectly reproduce the light of the northern environments, Christian Galli delivers a story of friendship and tells about that delicate moment when a child is finally ready “to leave his nest”.

Gaia Cardinali The chivalric epic poetry meets the brothers Grimm XVI century Germany Period “bildungs-comics”

BIOGRAPHY Gaia Cardinali (Ancona, 1992) She graduated at the Applied Arts School in Iesi in 2010 and started the course of Comics and Illustration at the Fine Arts Academy in Bologna. Viktoria is her first graphic novel.

tunué Rights sold: USA

Viktoria is a 14-year old German girl. Bold, bright and intolerant of all the XVI Century rules which would have her as a role model of scholarship, responsibility and good manners, she shuns from the dullness coiling herself in the burning remembrance of her dead mother and reshaping reality with her imagination. When her family leaves Strasburg to relocate in a small village, where everything seems lifeless and rigid, Viktoria, heedless of her father’s punishments and the dark forebodings of her ill brother, gives herself up to the charm of the Black Forest and to the sweet magnetism of a forbidden bond, until the truth calls her back to brand her destiny. Gaia Cardinali creates an unbridled fairy tale, made of dense colours and strong lines, where love and rebellion tie together with the loss and the return.

THE FLOWER OF THE WITCH

Coming-of-age, growth and assumption of one’s own role journey When the legends were young, in the farthest northern part of Lapland, near the village of Kariga, the young Mira and her father Eemil find a fainted child in the middle of the snow. The child’s name is Tami, and he says he is a warrior on a journey to become a man. While wandering through the lands of the North he faced bandits and defeated monsters, he found wealth and treasures but none of these exploits made him a man, and now Tami does not know what he can still do. However, after so many quests, the child also met an old shaman, who told him that in the far north, beyond the village of Kariga, a witch lives. She cultivates some beautiful flowers and if Tami manages to be so skilled and clever to seize the flowers of the witch, then he can finally become a man.

1935: Grand Prix of Germany, Nurburing circuit. Enzo Ferrari’s Alfa Romeo competes with old P3 models and seems to be doomed to make a poor appearance, compared to the light, powerful and state-of-the-art German cars. But the winding and difficult circuit is tailored for Tazio Nuvolari. The curves have always been his allies, his accomplices: the miracle happens, and the exhilarating victory makes him a legend. However, this is the end of the story, and Lorenzo Terranera wants to tell us the beginning, when Tazio is a child flying on a turtle, fixing up and reassembling with his father old bicycle wheels. At the end of his races in the sky, he looks upwards, lying on a colourful leaf carpet, with his little head covered by glasses and aviator cap. An exciting journey without words between history and dream.

A boy, a girl. A day at school. From lesson to lesson, from classroom to classroom their thoughts intertwine. It is maybe the first time they feel watched, returned, long-waited. Everything around them seems to talk a different language and everything resembles to what they feel is blossoming. Forse l’amore, the new book by Sualzo and Silvia Vecchini – winners of the Carlo Boscarato Award as “Best comics for children and teenagers” for Fiato sospeso in 2012 – is a tender, intelligent and genuine story which fits in the daily life of two adolescents, effectively giving us back their reflections, their reactions, their thoughts, their first and shy approach to new situations and new feelings.

Giorgio Salati, Christian Cornia For the readers who love the Disney universe From one of the writers of the Rai series Jules Verne and L’albero azzurro A comparison between the human and animal feelings

The city cat Brina and her owners move to the mountain for the Summer holidays. There, she meets some stray cats who are called “The Feline Sun Gang”. Her new friends convince her to run away and become a free cat. But if the raids in the wood makes Brina aware of a life style and an emancipation she didn’t know anything about it, on the other hand this new situation will throw her owners into panic, since they don’t accept to lose who they consider as an important member of their family. With a well-crafted attention to the human and feline feelings, Salati and Cornia are able to portray the theme of the difficult balance between the protection of the ones we love, the freedom to let them make mistakes, and the chance to make it on one’s own efforts.

JORGE & PEPITO

(Venice, 1969). After her University studies, she turns to oil painting and then to illustration. She is very fond of Nero and Matilde, the characters she invented for the pages of the magazines Famiglia Cristiana and GBaby. Among her other books: Senza... (La Coccinella, 2017), Palla di neve sporca. La vera storia della stella di Natale (Jaca Book, 2016).

Jorge is an armadillo who survived to the disastrous shipwreck of the Panamanian oil tanker Gran Zenith in 1977. He lives happily and quiet in Central Park, in a well hidden glade among the oaks. Pepito is a scarab, badly fallen in a puddle, which is saved by a child, Gilles. He begins his new life with a sugar lump, an apple clove, a water bowl and a carpet of leaves. One day Jorge loses his family and, like Pepito, is found by a child, Gynevre. He is very afraid, and he longs his loved ones even more. But this time there are his new friends to let him discover that, in addition to luck, which can save you from the shipwrecks, there is also the kindness, which comes from the others and can save you, too.

BIOGRAPHIES

Bruno Cannucciari He starts publishing on «Comic Art», reprising the Yellow Kid character. Hired in November 1986 by «Italia Oggi» as cartoonist and illustrator, in late 1988 he creates Winny for the magazine «Lupo Alberto» and, after that, he starts working on the well-known Lupo Alberto character, created by Silver. Emiliano Pagani He starts collaborating with the satirical magazine «Il Vernacoliere» in 1991. He publishes his first comic title in 2005, collecting the stories dedicated to the family Quagliotti. His most important success is the Don Zauker series, the blasphemer and irascible exorcist priest. Among his other works: X-Nerd – Eroi di pace (2011), Nirvana (Panini, 2011), Slobo e Golem (2016).

Selalgues is a small town on the Northern coast of France, where the sky is leaden, the seagulls whirl when the fishing boats pass and the community, subdued by the scarcity and the existential strain, takes shelter in the prejudice and the superstition. To pay for it is mostly Damien, a difficult boy who decided to find and kill the Kraken: the sea creature he thinks to be responsible for the death of his father and brother. His voice, however, remains unheeded: Damien, in fact, has witnessed the worst tragedies happened in the village and he was always the only one who came out alive. Could it be him, actually, the monster, bearer of misfortune? Emiliano Pagani and Bruno Cannucciari create a disenchanted work with dark hues, where the solitude becomes more and more visible and the sleep of reason abuses, ruining the human soul.

Since 2013 she has collaborated with the Giffoni Film Festival and with Rome Film Academy. In 2016 is released, always for Tunué but this time in the series Prospero’s Books, Siverwood Lake.

Giacomo and Davide are brothers and they grew up in Lampedusa, an island that to Giacomo is like a cage leaving the world aside and waiting, and to Davide is the home that is impossible to ignore. The first, now adult, abandons him for Milan, a work at the bank and the neon lights on the nightclubs, resentful of the brother’s stubbornness, which instead remains and dedicates soul and body to the study of sea turtles, able to return to the place where they were born even after twenty years of distance. When Davide suddenly dies, Giacomo is forced to revisit the island, where and old boat, a woman, a fisherman and a foreign child rescued by the sea await him, and along with a reel of memories, they will push him to redefine the meaning of the word horizon. Simona Binni writes a story of great relevance, in which the theme of brotherhood and roots invests the equally complex immigration and migration issue.

(Sora, 1990) In 2016 he collaborated with the self-published magazine Sciame – based in Bologna – and with the Belgian magazine 64page. He lives and studies in Bologna.

Skull is the snapshot of a mental landscape as bare as a rock and as black as coal. We’re talking about the mind of Adam Lanza, the twenty-year old boy who on December 14th 2012, armed with two guns and an automatic rifle, entered the Sandy Hook School and killed 27 people. Skull is also the story of Victoria Soto, the young teacher who saved many students during the massacre, hiding them inside some cabinets. Nucci and Nardone don’t want to report the bare events, but to investigate the ecstatic part of the facts, to analyse them in their psychoanalytic symbolism, to transfigure them into dream-like splinters. To watch them from afar, with modest dread. And to scare the reader, bringing back the real nightmare to its fictitious stylized simulacrum.

SOFIA FROM THE OCEAN

Kalina Muhova

(Sofia, 1993) She attended the Academy of Fine Arts in Bologna, and she is the founder of the self-published magazine Brace.

Sofia is 7 years old, she’s tall as an umbrella stand and a strange illness, called Red Shadow, forces her to stay away from the city air. The child, locked in a small villa on the sea together with her incomprehensibles uncles, shares her thoughts with her doll Veronica, a big cat named Meow and the Ocean, to which she writes long letters in the bottle asking for a pink dress, the knowledge of the world and some true friends. One day the Ocean answers sending her Occhioblu, the Captain of a crew formed by rabbits, spiders, flamingoes and sea horses, who takes her to a journey in a submarine, in order to defeat Prince Illness and find the fabled healing crystals, hidden in the depth of the abysses. Marco Nucci and Kalina Muhova create a graphic novel full of delicate, baroque oddities and metaphysical touches, for an adventurous, seafaring fairy tale where easy things don’t teach anything.

Sandro is a retired postman, he’s 72 and, after Lidia’s sudden death, the woman of his life he met at school, he gives himself up to a seclusion filled with cigarettes, fake card games and meals at the light of his old TV set. His days pass slowly and unhappily repetitive until he discovers a world of elderly for whom life, and especially sex, are part of their gratifying, playful and completely normal present. Then Sandro falls in love again, he experiences, as if in a second adolescence, the flesh pleasure and reckons with the missed opportunities of his past. With an original and, at the same time, grotesque touch, Antonio Vinci creates a tragicomic story, tinged with a delicate nostalgia, to reminds us that life doesn’t know anything about the years, as Charles Bukowski used to say.

Graduated from the High School of Industrial Design, he is a leading author of Sergio Bonelli Editore. His works have been translated into more than ten countries. This is his second work for Tunué after Di altre storie e di altri eroi. In 2016 he was invited to China to participate in the World Artist Illustrate Beijing project, with ten other colleagues of various nationalities.

The graphic novel, set in a small town on the Tuscan Riviera, presents Max and Saverio, two teenagers with no worries, besides the girls, who try to understand more about life. Their best years are dedicated to discover the women, to rock music... with the background of the early 70s, the first women demands, vintage characters, “cursed” and fascinating heroes.
