DID YOU KNOW... that a year isn’t exactly 365 days long? It actually takes Earth 365.242190 days to orbit the Sun, or 365 days, 5 hours, 48 minutes, and 56 seconds. That extra quarter of a day might seem small, but it adds up, which is why we have leap years to keep our calendars accurate and the seasons from shifting!

TURNER INDUSTRIAL MAINTENANCE

ONBOARD AND UPWARD

Turner Industrial Maintenance has expanded its operations to include the Shell Polymers facility in Monaca, Pennsylvania. The transition was completed in under 30 days and involved the successful onboarding of over 300 workers.

The foundation of this transition was the strategic deployment of experienced leaders who brought a wealth of industry knowledge and a deep-rooted relationship with Shell. Turner embedded its leadership team onsite to ensure a smooth takeover, prioritizing a culture focused on safety, excellence, and accountability.

Key operational advancements were implemented to enhance both productivity and safety at the site. One of the primary initiatives was a “time

on tools” evaluation, a process that highlighted opportunities to maximize productive work time while minimizing downtime.

As part of this transition, Turner introduced cuttingedge technology, which included the Turner Tablet Applications and a small-tool tracking software. By digitizing jobsite operations, this enabled Turner to provide better resource management and reduce time spent on administrative tasks.

“With our ability to manage every aspect of maintenance—from routine tasks to large-scale turnarounds and additional site requirements— our one -solution approach helps enable Shell to streamline operations and benefit from consistent, reliable service,” said Turner Industrial Maintenance General Manager Neal McCleary .

The Shell Polymers facility in Monaca, Pennsylvania, received Shell’s Quarterly SVP Award for exceptional collaboration, communication, and swift execution during the transition between Shell and Turner Industrial Maintenance.

Turner Completes Two Tesla Projects in Austin

Turner Industries recently completed two Tesla projects in Austin, Texas, which involved installing Teslaowned robotics and conveyor systems, and outage work that focused on maintenance support. By using Turner’s capital project and rope access services, Turner’s team, led by Adam Brittain, Edgardo Zavala, and Jesus Vargas, met a tight three-week deadline efficiently.

This job, consisting of 3,796 work hours and a peak headcount of 31, required precise equipment handling. By working closely with Tesla’s team, Turner was able to install equipment in locations throughout the facility. Tesla’s management provided exemplary support, working closely with Turner to offer valuable feedback and assistance throughout the project. With the help of the Turner Tablet Applications™, Turner ensured seamless communication and efficient operations, showcasing the team’s expertise in handling delicate installations.

N O S PRINKLERS , N O P ROBLEM : Rope Access Team Completes Auto Manufacturer’s Project Ahead of Schedule

Turner Industries recently undertook a project for an auto manufacturer in the southeast U.S. This job involved removing 396 sprinkler heads and installing plugs in an occupied commercial building with heights reaching approximately 28 feet. This was critical for the auto manufacturer to secure an occupancy permit for a lithium battery assembly area and convert their fire suppression system from wet to dry.

Turner assembled a team of seven professionals who completed the project two weeks ahead of schedule. This was the auto manufacturer’s first encounter with rope access, and they were impressed with the results and efficiency.

This collaboration not only met the auto manufacturer’s immediate needs, but highlighted Turner’s capabilities in efficient and innovative project performance.

70,000-Pound Tank Lifted to Fourth Floor

Turner Industries’ crane and rigging group recently lifted a 70,000-pound tank into the fourth floor of the Louisiana Sugar Refining building in Gramercy, Louisiana by using a 265-ton hydraulic crane to lift the structure and a 155-ton hydraulic crane as the tail crane to maneuver the tank from a horizontal to vertical position. Since the roof was not removed, the lift was completed with only approximately 5 inches of clearance from the top of the cantilever bar to a 4-inch valve that could not be removed from the building, along with a small side-to-side clearance.

With only two days of work, the crew safely lifted the tank into its position. Although the cantilever bar is a triedand-true tool for basic crane operation, the application in such restricted environments with limited space required precision and coordination.

Thanks to the expertise of our Turner Industries team—two operators, two oilers, and two riggers—the project was completed on time without incident.

SPEAKING FRANKLY

A Q&A w ith COO David Franks

David Franks, Chief Operating Officer of Turner Industries, recently celebrated 30 years with the company. In this interview, he shares the story of his success, offers advice to aspiring industry professionals and discusses his vision for the future of Turner.

What inspired you to join Turner Industries three decades ago, and what continues to fuel your passion for the company?

Honestly, my journey with Turner began because another opportunity fell through. I interned as a mechanical engineer for an owner, but the company was sold a few weeks before my college graduation and their offer to me was subsequently rescinded. Consequently, I went to work for Turner in a simple “summer job.” Obviously, that “summer job” became somewhat extended.

The camaraderie and family feel among employees coupled with the mutual drive toward success was and remains captivating to me. Lastly, always knowing that at Turner, ROI stands for “Return on Integrity.” This North Star has always provided clear direction and guidance regarding any decision making.

What leadership principles have guided you throughout your career?

While there have been several additions and anecdotes regarding leadership lessons over 30 years, “Look i nward f irst” is the most prevailing principle. I first learned this concept from my dad, but I’ve also been blessed to see this principle in action while following several other great leaders at Turner throughout my career. It’s perhaps best summarized this way:

When leading a group of people, if you determine that their location and outcomes are less than desirable, you must first acknowledge that this group of people has followed you to precisely where you led them and the outcome achieved.

What advice would you give to young professionals in heavy industry?

• Show Up Every Day. receive time off once you have first demonstrated you will be there when expected. Showing up every day demonstrates you are DEPENDABLE.

• Safely Work Hard. If you can’t or are unwilling to work safely, this is not an industry for you. Consciously working safely proves you can be TRUSTED once given instruction.

• Continue Your Education. Read, ask, attend training, explore, go online find a way to keep learning. Education clearly reveals you are EAGER for more.

• Be Coachable. Respond to and respect authority. Follow the leadership placed before you. Stand firmly on principles, but be flexible on most everything else. Being coachable illustrates you are RESPONSIVE.

• Stay Drug Free. You will be subject to screenings at any time. If you are a substance abuser, it is more likely you won’t show up, you can’t work safely, you will cease educating yourself, and you won’t respond to coaching. Abstaining from substance abuse reveals you are SELF-DISCIPLINED.

What

are your hopes and goals for Turner Industries in the next decade?

Continued growth on both the top and bottom lines. To do so, we must remain mindful of all stakeholders involved. First, we must keep our employees safe and treat them so they experience Turner as an employer of choice. Second, we must continue to clearly demonstrate value to our customers. Finally, as we celebrate over 63 years of industry excellence, we must continue to honor the late Bert Turner ’s vision and commitment to family. We must continue to innovate and grow, while always staying true to the Turner family ’s core values.

Turner Industries CEO Stephen Toups, right, congratulates Turner Industries COO David Franks on his 30 years of service with the company.

STOP DREAMING, START DOING.

How to Set AND Achieve Your Goals

Every New Year, we make a fresh start with a list of resolutions. While setting goals is a common practice, sticking to them can be a challenge. By setting goals, we actively shape our future, taking control of our personal and professional lives. Goal setting is the engine that drives progress and keeps us moving forward.

SETTING SMART GOAL S

To achieve your goals, start by setting SMART goals. SMART stands for:

• Specific: Clearly define your goal.

• Measurable: Set quantifiable targets.

• Achievable: Make sure your goals are realistic.

• Relevant: Align your goals with your values and aspirations.

• Time-Bound: Set deadlines.

SMART GOALS IN ACTION

Instead of setting vague goals like “travel more,” your SMART goal could be to “visit Italy for two weeks in the summer, exploring Florence, Rome, and Naples.” Similarly, instead of “read more,” a SMART goal could be to “read one book per month for the next year, focusing on biographies and historical fiction.”

Remember, many digital tools (Todoist, Trello, Google Calendar, Asana, etc.) can help you stay on track. Use reminders, calendars, and fitness apps to keep yourself accountable.

Research

shows that writing down your goals can increase your chances of achieving them by 42%.

Aaron George

Current Title: Maintenance Area Supervisor — Olin Facility in Freeport, TX

From serving in Syria to supervising maintenance projects, Aaron George’s journey has been anything but ordinary. Now overseeing daily operations for Turner at the Olin Plant B facility in Freeport, Texas, this former Army enlistee has climbed the ranks from pipe fabricator to maintenance area supervisor in just two years.

A Quick Q & A with Aaron

What led to your current position at the company?

What do you enjoy doing outside of work?

What is one piece of great advice you’ve received?

What is something about you people might not know?

Why was Turner the right fit for you?

I started working as a pipe fabricator at Turner’s Freeport fabrication shop in January 2021. I then took over as capital projects foreman, running multiple shop and field projects, providing services to several different facilities. In June 2023, I accepted my current position as a maintenance area supervisor.

Outside of work, I enjoy spending time with my family. I especially enjoy watching my kids rodeo. My son rides bulls, and my daughter is starting barrel racing.

“Don’t expect life to get easier; command yourself to get stronger.”

I enlisted in the Army in 2016 and served four years. I was stationed at Fort Lewis, Washington, and deployed overseas to Kobani, Syria.

From the start, I recognized Turner’s commitment to growth and development. I’ve had the privilege of working with exceptional supervisors and highly skilled journeymen, and this positive experience continues to this day.

What do you find most satisfying about your job?

What has been your favorite moment, so far, at Turner?

I’m continuously gratified by the recognition our teams receive after successful projects or turnarounds. It’s also incredibly rewarding to see our customers’ increasing trust in our skilled workforce.

It’s difficult to pinpoint a single favorite moment. I enjoy witnessing employee growth and advancement on a daily basis. Each day brings new opportunities for satisfaction.
