Stop Work Authority in Action at Eastman Pace Florida Pace, Florida – At Turner industries, every employee has the authority to stop work if they deem a situation as potentially unsafe. The recognition of hazards and mitigation prior to incident or injury is a critical part of our industry, and Turner employees at Eastman are certainly setting the right example.

“I am very proud of our employees; they all focus on recognizing hazards, no matter their role on the team—we all work together. We also don’t over-complicate the process,” said Turner Site Manager Jason McManus.

Thirty-three dedicated maintenance employees are averaging more than 45 “stop works” per month and have recorded a total of 367 instances where potential injury has been averted since the inception of the contract in April of 2021. WINTER 2022 5

What It Takes to Get the Job Done Right

Shell Deer Park Safety Survivor Tournament Deer Park, Texas – Onsite since 2006, Turner Industries currently has over 700 employees providing mechanical, SIPA (scaffolding, insulation, painting, and abatement) and rope access services at the Shell Deer Park complex. In the fall of 2021, employees completed a new initiative created to reiterate Turner’s culture of safety and foster employee engagement and empowerment—the Shell Deer Park Safety Survivor Tournament.

THE RULES Across the site, every Turner work group was tasked with giving a presentation to their peers about a safety topic they felt passionate about. The groups were entered into a 16-team bracket, and site management scored each presentation to determine who advanced to the next round. “Instead of reading information from a print-out, we challenged everyone to use alternative methods and bring energy and enthusiasm to the meetings. Groups were given as much creative liberty as they wanted, and it showed. Teams used videos, PowerPoints, skits, hands-on demonstrations, and even heavy equipment to demonstrate their topics,” said Turner Site Manager Chris Sciambra. And the Winner Is… After all presentations were given and site management tallied up the scores, the winning team was the tank soft craft group. Chris noted “This group went above and beyond from day one to display their creativity and commitment to safety. The first topic they presented was about ‘why we work

safe’ and included video messages from several employees’ family members — a very powerful presentation.” Their secondround presentation covered a scenario about working without a permit and showcased the power of Turner’s “STOP WORK Authority” program. And their winning final round topic instructed everyone how to call emergency response. “After participating in this challenge I feel like my peers and I were able to engage on a different level of understanding. This was such a great team-building and learning experience. I honestly feel like this challenge brought us closer together as a group.” – Stephanie Rosas, Turner tank soft craft employee Turner Maintenance Manager Cesar Garcia was excited to hear that the tank soft craft group won. “Most of this team transferred in 2018 from another contractor and has consistently stepped up to the plate and delivered great services. Winning this competition is just one more example of their level of care in their service. We are very fortunate to have them as part of our Turner team.”

Facility Management – Supporting Preservation Activities at Shell Convent Opened in 1967, the Shell Convent refinery is located next to the Mississippi River, midway between Baton Rouge and New Orleans. Turner Industries has been a proud partner of this site for twenty years. In November of 2020, Shell made the difficult decision to shut down the refinery. The decision is part of the company’s global strategy to invest in a core set of uniquely integrated manufacturing sites that are also strategically positioned for the transition to a low-carbon future. In early 2021, the site began to transition from an operating refinery to one that could be preserved for continued marketing, or one that could be repurposed to produce low-carbon fuels and products. Shell reduced the workforce, both owner and contractors at the site, de-inventoried product, cleaned the equipment and moved the site to a state of preservation to protect the assets at the site for the foreseeable future.

Pictured is the onsite facility management team which includes Darrell Ferguson, Milton “Mickey” Kent, Lucas Brown, Jonathan Guidry and Charles Hornsby.

Shortly after, Turner transitioned from general contractor into a “Facility Management” role which means managing and coordinating all site activities throughout the preservation period. The preservation phase of this facility will involve a close working relationship with Shell and other key nested contractors such as Allied Security, Athlon, CK Associates, and JHA & Vallen. New, innovative systems and processes—such as Turner’s MobilOps® Field Vision™ software, used to track all activities supporting the preservation activities along with KPI dashboard to facilitate communication and transparency—have been, and will continue to be, implemented as needed to ensure the preservation program is effective and cost efficient. “This is new territory for both Turner and Shell, and we are honored to have been entrusted with this partnership opportunity. Together, we embarked on a mission that not many people have ever done before. We’ve demonstrated that we have the knowledge and resources to develop and deliver the needs of the preservation program and to do it safely and efficiently! We look forward to many more years of continued partnership with Shell throughout the preservation period and into the repurposing phase of the plant.” – Turner’s Preservation Facility Manager, Darrell Ferguson.

Christmas celebration at the site held December 2, 2021.

“For Shell Convent, 2021 was a “roller coaster” ride of a year. When we approached Turner in early 2021 about the potential of becoming our facility management contractor, it was exciting to see their response. Shell’s partnership with Turner has been in place for many years, but what we are doing now at Convent with Turner is breaking new ground. From day one Turner took ownership of where we wanted to go and over about a 4–6-month period is now firmly in seat as our facilities management provider. To date, the results have been much more than we anticipated and it’s exciting to see the new and innovative tools Turner has brought to the table. I’m looking forward to continued progress and innovation in 2022. – Shell Convent General Manager Kirk Kallenberger. WINTER 2022 7

On November 9th, the play of the day went to Turnaround Superintendent Dudley Roy.

“Dudley is known colloquially as ‘The Godfather’ around Turner, a nod to his wealth of knowledge and tenure of 44 years. Dudley began his career at Turner with the former subsidiary company, Harmony Construction, that served as the maintenance contractor at Citgo’s Lake Charles Refinery, spending 27 years at the site. In 2012, he came to the current Sasol site to plan the LAB Turnaround and has been here since. Throughout the years Dudley has been a part of too many turnarounds to count; he said that he most enjoys all the people he’s had the opportunity to work with. Dudley embodies the qualities of hard work, dedication, and loyalty. We appreciate everything that he contributed to this Ethylene turnaround and to Turner Industries,” said Turner Vice President and Director of Operations of Maintenance and Turnarounds Joe Zeppuhar. MAINTENANCE IN THE MARBLE CITY Turner Industries provides ongoing maintenance support to the world's largest marble quarry.

Sylacauga, Ala.– About an hour outside of Birmingham, Alabama, lies the largest open-pit marble quarry in the world. Sylacauga, Alabama, also known as “marble city,” is home to the Gantt Quarry, which has been mined for the purest white marble for over 150 years. Imerys, a world leader in mineral-based specialties, operates the quarry and has the unique challenge of turning the quarry’s metaphoric rock into usable consumer products. In November of 2020, Turner Industries began work with Imerys Carbonates providing nested preventive maintenance and routine repair support as well as in-and-out capital and outage support. The team is currently working on a proposal to reconfigure the site’s Plant 2 Feed Distribution System. The main goals are to eliminate bottlenecks in the stone delivery systems, create safer access around equipment and between platform levels, and design and construct the improvements within the allotted production outage windows. Turner employees have worked over 25,000 hours to date OSHA recordable free at the Imerys site. WINTER 2022 9

Energy services

This past fall we announced the creation of Turner Industries Energy Services, created to allow our portfolio of companies to pursue opportunities in the alternative and emerging energy sectors. Turner has a history of successfully completed biodiesel, solar and carbon-capture projects under its belt, and we look forward to playing a part in the world’s transition to a lower-carbon energy future.

“While we still want to build traditional petrochemical facilities, we’re going to be looking at solar, biodiesel, carbon capture,” says Turner Industries President and CEO Stephen Toups. “Our customer base is moving towards the Paris accords, and we want to support them in anything they need.” 14 W I N T E R 2 0 2 2

new iberia facility gulf of mexico operations

In 2020, Turner Industries acquired the New Iberia Facility from Dynamic Energy Services in New Iberia, Louisiana. The addition of this facility and key personnel expands Turner Industries’ capacity and creates one of the industry’s most capable large-scale module fabrication yards. The facility is the cornerstone of Turner’s new Gulf of Mexico Operations, which will strengthen and diversify the company’s current service offerings for opportunities with both new and existing clients. Turner’s capability to meet demand from heavy industry while streamlining workflows, controlling project costs, and most importantly, providing a safe work environment, is continuing to grow. The site’s direct access to deep water and major interstates means modules can be efficiently shipped across the country and offshore — allowing for upstream, midstream, downstream, and sub-sea fabrication.

port lavaca As Turner keeps expanding our operating footprint along the Texas coast, the Port Lavaca team has moved to a new location. Over the last year, at one site alone, Turner has grown to 270 employees. To keep up with the rapidly growing region, a bigger, more accommodating space was needed. When the office renovation is complete, the building will feature new, larger offices and meeting spaces.

NEW technology

Developed to reduce the burden of administrative work by digitizing and automating paper-based forms and tasks, Turner’s proprietary applications are harnessing our innovative spirit to deliver client-driven solutions. In 2021, we also rolled out more tablets to jobsites than ever before, increasing productivity, adaptability, collaboration, and efficiency at jobsites across the country—setting the pace for the future of work in our industry.

ESTIMATE

This budgeting and estimating application allows the user to create a staffing plan and add other costs such as subcontractors, material, equipment, and per diem in one tool while also providing calculation summaries and document exports. Trending analytics from the data captured in the application provides greater insight for future estimations.

FORCE REPORT

Captures real time daily resource count on site allowing a more efficient process to complete force report and analytics. The application features “one click check in” of all employees on site, flexible reporting to accommodate different groups or site needs, and provides immediate data and analytics.

TICKETED WORK

In 2020, Turner rolled out an Enterprise 1 (E1)—Turner’s Business Management System—application for all their ticketed work, allowing for field entry and billing automation while eliminating all paper tickets which improves data quality. In 2022, the roll out will expand and include a mobile application—making it easier to enter all ticketed work in real time and on site.

WORK PACKAGES

In 2022, Turner’s IT department will continue working on a uniform system to create, track, progress, and execute work packages digitally. The application will allow planners to quickly create a digital work package that includes drawings, procedures, job steps, QC/QA documents, linked forms, and anything else needed to define the work scope for a certain task. This work package is then made available to frontline field workers who can view and progress the work package on tablets. Trending analytics from the data captured in the application will provide greater insight for future work. 16 W I N T E R 2 0 2 2

After 60 years in the original building where Turner Industries was founded, employees of the Equipment Division will move to a new administrative building in Summer 2022. The groundbreaking was held on April 20, 2021 for the new 14,000-square-foot building located just down the street from the original office. Coleman Partners Architects, LLC created a modern industrial design for the space that will complement the Equipment Maintenance and Repair Facility completed in 2014. EMPLOYEE PROFILE

Laverne Garcia Time with Turner: A year and a half. Current Title: Area Safety Manager in Corpus Christi,

Texas for the SIPA Group (Scaffolding, Insulation, Painting, and Abatement). Growing up, Laverne Garcia never pictured herself working in heavy industry. “I played high school basketball and I always wanted to pursue a profession within the WNBA.” Then, a week after high school graduation she went to New York City on vacation with some friends. While there, Laverne was approached by a modeling scout, eventually signing a contract, and moved to the Big Apple. “Modeling was fun for a while, but it was not for me. After two years I returned home to Corpus Christi. I decided to attend a six-month course at Delmar Collage to become a hospital unit coordinator, but that also didn’t feel right. I had a family member in heavy industry and he always told me that I would be a great fit. Soon after, I woke up one morning and decided to make a career change. It has been the best decision I have ever made.” At 21 she started working with a local contractor as a scaffold helper. She quickly advanced to other soft crafts like insulation, painting, fireproofing and asbestos work. “I knew then that this was the industry for me, and when my then safety manager asked me what my goal in this industry was, I told him – one day I am going to be a safety area manager.” Laverne kept true to word, went to school, and became a certified health and safety professional in 2009. Laverne worked in safety for eleven years when Turner SIPA Manager Hayden More called her up about a great career opportunity. “I knew Hayden from another job; we had worked together for a previous contractor, so I took the chance and I have never regretted it.”

What do you find most satisfying about your job? I love my job! Everyone shares the same vision and are dedicated to the mission. Turner also allows me to have a work/life balance.

Why was Turner the right fit for you? They encourage their employees to grow and succeed.

What has been your favorite moment, so far, at the company? Finishing the 2020 ALKY and FCCU units’ turnaround with zero incidents. This was an intense two-month event where our employees worked over 120,000 hours 24/7.

What is your motto or personal mantra? Own it. Both failures and successes.

When not at work, Laverne and her wife Kimberly enjoy traveling with their seven-year-old twin boys Jayceon and Caiden. W I N T E R 2 0 2 2 23
