Debt Cancellation Written by Dr Albert Odulele Glory House Churches International

roverbs 22:7 “The rich rules over the poor, and the borrower is servant to the lender.” Britain’s personal debt stands at an unimaginable £1.39 trillion. Debtors pay £93 billion a year in interest on loans, credit cards, overdrafts etc. The average household owes £56,234 and pays nearly £4,000 interest annually. The average adult owes £29,000. An average of 10,000 adults were made bankrupt monthly in 2008 and people are looking for ways out of the ‘debt trap’. Here are some suggestions. Adopt The Right Mindset The ‘I will be debt free’ mindset is crucial to debt cancellation. Commit yourself to becoming debt free and start with your mind. Huge debt can be mentally incarcerating so draw strength from past tough challenges you overcame (e.g. bereavement, health, etc). Reject guilt and shame from bad financial decisions. Self-recrimination makes it harder to act decisively. Move on. Awful attitudes about financial hardship are contagious. Boost your self-confidence by getting smarter with money. Study, read a few books, enrol for financial management classes. Create A Budget Most financial advisers agree that one of the first steps of debt cancellation is budgeting. Monthly recurrent and capital expenditures often indicate what is wrong. Take stock of your financial situation and be realistic. A budget is planned spending. Keep written records. List bills or outgoings that must be paid like mortgages, groceries, etc; include non-essentials and strike at them first (holidays, fast food, etc). The trick is to know what you own, what you owe, what you earn and where it goes.

Prioritise Monthly Payments Keep your regular essential payments (mortgage, utilities, etc) and do not spend this. Pay God first (10% tithe) and then yourself (10% savings, or whatever percentage you can afford). Eliminate waste, be tough, and sacrifice a bit. Cut back and cut down on electricity, heating and water costs. Place monthly outgoings under strict governance and don’t spend impulsively. Use extra cash to pay off debts. High Interest Debts Pay off quickly high interest loans and legally binding essential debts. They are perpetuating and consolidating debts. Essential debts are ones with court orders, mortgages, utility bills, loans, etc. Non-essential debts are credit / charge / store cards, subscriptions etc. In an economic downturn it is possible to pay off debt. Have a repayment plan and apply self-discipline and creative thinking. Moving money from high interest cards to lower rate ones can save money. Beware of very high interest after an introductory period. Cut-up Credit Cards Stop temptation. Destroy the cards or hide them. Stop over-spending; pay off both interest and the principal sum; spend less than you earn. Once debt free, think twice before spending. Overdrafts and credit are not gifts. Beware of being spend crazy on credit cards. Unexpected Income Cash gifts, inheritance, windfalls, etc should be used to pay off pressing debt and not on jewellery or cars etc. Raise money by selling unnecessary stuff on eBay. Learn to save where possible. Live the 10:10:10:70 Law; 10% tithe; 10% savings; 10% investments and 70% on living. The Japanese save 25%

of their income; Americans 12% but Britons 6%. Break the mould and save. If these measures are insufficient, there are other steps that can be taken. Debt Consolidation This is repaying several small loans/credit cards with one large loan. Payments can be less and easier track. The danger to start spending again once the pressure is off. The best debt consolidation is to live within your means. Get low interest credit cards, transfer your balances and diligently pay them off. Ensure consolidation does not become a lifestyle instead of a debt cancelling strategy. Debt Settlement This is better than bankruptcy but you may be unable to get credit for years. Professional companies customize your situation and affordability. This makes paying off debts quicker and easier. This is worth considering. ‘Negotiate terms’ of loans with your lender (longer pay terms will reduce monthly payments). Let the lenders know you are trying and explain your situation. Apply for a month or two payment breaks (payment holiday). This give you time; but remember interest will keep accruing. Bankruptcy Seriously, this must be a last resort. Can be voluntary or forced (court judgement). You lose all assets and will not be given credit for years. It is not recommended but some people have to resort to it. For insolvency, obtain the best advice on IVA’s (Individual Voluntary Arrangements) and DMP’s (Debt Management Plans). Seek professional advice and be forthright. Set Free I Was Once A Buddhist Nun Watching a video about a Christian missionary led a Buddhist nun to give her heart to Jesus. Now Esther Baker has written a book about her spiritual journey. She spoke exclusively to TV4Life’s Sally Anderson-Wai about her conversion.

ew people are prepared to shave their heads and give up all of their worldly goods for what they believe in these days, never mind eat only one meal a day, sleep little, and forsake everyday pleasures like listening to music, but Esther Baker did. She describes herself as a “broken woman trying to make sense of life” when she became ordained as a novice Buddhist nun in 1984. “My mother was horrified and very distressed because Buddhism was so alien to her,” said the slender, attractive 52-

year-old, who bubbles with an inner joy. Born near Liverpool, Esther had lived in Singapore as a child for two years when her father was in the R.A.F. On their return, they settled in the East of England where her life was ‘good at times, as well as having some difficult challenges’. She said: “My parents, for their own personal reasons, were unusually antichurch. Christianity was ridiculed by my family as my parents at core felt it was worthless. The spiritual side of my life was suppressed until I was 21.” When she qualified with a diploma in

horticulture from a prestigious college in London she looked set up for a life working in conservation or in botanical gardens. Esther said: “Suddenly and unexpectedly, I had all of these questions. Who am I? What is life about? What happens when I die? It was like the spiritual side of me, which had been so suppressed, suddenly erupted like a volcano. I couldn’t actually give myself seriously to a career at that time, but had to search for some answers.” Her search led her to a Sri Lankan Buddhist Temple in North London. “I was very impressed with the Sri Lankan monk who led it at the time. He seemed to have answers to my many questions and even had questions I hadn’t thought of”, she laughed. After six years, she became ordained as a novice and two-and-a-half years later she swapped her white robe for the

brown one of a nun. Esther said: “Now as a Buddhist nun I lived under stricter rules and a code of discipline than a novice. Buddhist monasticism is very legalistic. I couldn’t own money or even touch it. I was strictly celibate. There was no television, no dancing, no make up or sports, no alcohol and little sleep. “Living like that is a form of sensory deprivation; you are low on food, have little sleep and as a result can easily go into strange mental states.” While in the temple, her attitude remained quite strongly anti-Christian even though Christian monastic’s would visit for interfaith meetings from time to time. Very occasionally during all night meditation sessions, the nuns and monks were allowed to watch videos on various religious subjects. “A big changing point for me was when I saw “The Law of Love” video made for Channel 4 about Jackie Pullinger, an English missionary working within the power of God with the poor, drug addicts and prostitutes in Hong Kong. As I watched this video, I could see for the first time the power of God working in the lives of these people who were so changed, healed and restored. I knew that something very deep within me had been touched and shaken. “The next morning I felt like an ill person. I felt bankrupt spiritually as though I had nothing compared to these Christians I had seen in the video. In a very childlike way, without really understanding what they had, I really knew I wanted it. I knew they had the truth that I had been searching for and didn’t have. I didn’t understand much about God and Jesus, but I later understood that God had by-passed my mind and touched my spirit. Buddhism is a bondage around the mind using meditation and the faculty of the mind to try to understand the truth. But spiritual things are spiritually discerned. By God’s mercy I became alive in my spirit.” Her experience shook all she had come to believe in. After seeing the video, Esther went through a period of confusion on and off for eight months. “At times I tried to forget about God and push God away and yet at other times I wanted to pray, to be baptised and to be in church, but I didn’t really know what these things were. These desires were

coming from deep within me and kept coming back. At other times I would tell myself just to get on with my Buddhist life with more determination than before. I felt as though I was being pulled in two directions. I didn’t know if I couldn’t cope with Buddhist monasticism anymore or if I had really become a Christian. I didn’t share this inner turmoil with anyone because even I didn’t understand it. It was a very difficult time. “I said to myself, “Enough doubting, don’t bother with Christianity, just forget it”. But I couldn’t. We would have long meditation retreats through the winter. One time a lot of fear was coming up. I was trying to draw on anything from Buddhism to help me, but it didn’t help me. So for the first time in my life I prayed: “God, if you are real, I want to know you.” I had seen God was real for others in the video. At that point, a tremendous peace came over me and the fear lifted. Within minutes I was asleep. The peace remained with me.” Slowly, Esther’s Buddhist life became redundant. She found she no longer wanted to teach Buddhism or meditation

and instead of meditating she started to pray this prayer from the Greek Orthodox tradition; “Lord Jesus Christ, Son of God, have mercy on me a sinner”. Esther had many questions she wanted to ask Christians, but it was difficult at that time for her to find some Christians. The pressure and confusion built up until one Sunday morning she found herself running out of the temple to the local village church where she sat at the back of the church until the service had ended and had a chance to speak to the vicar. “I went and spoke to this elderly kind man and said, “Please pray for me I am very confused”.” The vicar invited her to kneel at the communion rail where he prayed for her. “As he laid his hands on me and prayed I just sobbed and sobbed”. A couple of days later she went to see him at the vicarage. He told her God had touched her life and gave her John 14 verse 1 and 2: “Let not your heart be

troubled; you believe in God, believe also in Me. In My Father’s house are many mansions; if it were not so, I would have told you. I go to prepare a place for you.” Within a week of first seeing the vicar Esther left the monastery wearing a skirt made from a curtain and a green shirt that she had found in the monastery store cupboard. Although she was impoverished by worldly standards, she felt rich in faith. “God looked after me from the beginning. Now I’ve been a Christian for 17 years and I have never regretted leaving. I now see that Buddhism and Christianity are foundationally different. The Buddhist goal is nirvana; no more becoming, extinction. The Christian goal is to know God, to have a relationship with Him and to spend eternity with Him. I now see that Christianity and Buddhism are foundationally different. The foundation of Christianity is God, the foundation of Buddhism isn’t. They are not the same. Charles Williams, the Christian writer and friend of C. S. Lewis, said: “Hell is an image of an unchanging state which endures no more becoming.” Hell, in Williams’ terminology, is an image of an unchanging state which endures no more becoming, no more life, no more relationship, no more meaning. This sadly fits well in defining the Buddhist goal.” After three years spent growing in faith and adjusting to normal life again, Esther felt called to the mission field. She went to Hong Kong and spent 1994 to 1997 with Jackie Pullinger’s Ministry, St Stephen’s Society. She has spent the last nine years working in Thailand with the Thai church in a discipleship ministry, where her experience as a Buddhist nun has been proven invaluable. “In the past, I’ve wondered why I went through the extremes that I did. Of all things that I’ve done in my life, I could have regretted wasting so long as a Buddhist nun, but the Lord calling me to Thailand and Asia has redeemed that sense of loss. I feel like a secret agent, who has a deep knowledge of Thai Buddhism. Even He can use me as a tool in His hands. Songs of Praise: BBC Big Sing BBC 1: Sun 5.20pm Watch out for news of when to buy tickets for the Songs of Praise’s major event of the year. xodus 8:1 Then the Lord said to Moses, “Go to Pharaoh and say to him, ’Let my people go so that they may worship me’.” I believe that God is getting ready to pour out His Spirit in a most unprecedented way. However, I also believe that this coming outpouring will have worship as one of it’s strongest foundations. Because the bible says that it’s the people that know their God who shall be strong and do exploits. Dan. 11:32 Sadly, there are many churches today where worship has been reduced to merely ‘entertaining the troops’ until the sermon begins. Really, it’s little more than a singsong. Yet worship is so much more than that; worship literally draws man to God and God to man. Worship opens our hearts to receive from God and attracts God’s heart to pour out His Spirit upon us. The Gospels declare that it’s the truth that sets people free and that the preaching of the gospel is the power of God unto salvation. However, God’s word is also like a seed. Unless the soil of our heart is ready to receive the word, the seed will just lie on the surface and die, never producing any fruit. That is why worship is so important: because as we worship God, our hearts become soft and pliable and God is able to work in us powerfully. That is when the truth will make us free. This is why God told Moses to lead Israel to the place of worship. God knew that in order to change Israel’s hard hearts and bring them into their promised land, they would need to experience not just His power, but also His presence. My friends, God has a promised land of revival for you and me but make no mistake about it, it will take worship to get us there. I can’t imagine life without that or not being in that environment. We want to point people to God and if we can do that through music that’s good.”

“If you look at the deﬁnition of worship it is laying down our whole lives as in Paul’s letter to the Romans, 12 verses 1 and 2. It says we should offer our lives as a living sacriﬁce. It’s not just about singing. That is just one way of expressing worship. Ephesians 5 verse 2 says it’s living a life of love as Jesus did. His life was like a worship offering. A fragrant offering. A life of love is a life of worship. Whatever we do singing songs, we need to seek to live a life of love or else it is just an empty noise.”

If worship were a song then, if there was no music there would be no worship. I recognise that my spirit is energized when I draw closer to God and he touches me. I believe that worship is life itself. “Hence worship is the means, but the object of my worship is who I am blown away by – His grace, His love, His compassion, His mercy, His joy all supernatural, but so tangible in a world where so much pain exists.”

Tim Hughes, one of Britain’s top singer/ songwriters, is one of the leaders of Worship Central, a school of worship to train and equip worship leaders, musicians and worshippers. He has just brought out a new album, “Happy Day.” “My favourite deﬁnition of worship is, “Worship is the total alignment of our heart, soul, mind and strength with the will of God.” Worship affects every aspect of our lives. It is all that we do in response to God’s extravagant love.”

The Gift of The

Holy Spirit Mark 16:15-18 (KJV) “And he said unto them, Go ye into all the world, and preach the gospel to every creature….”

fter the resurrection of Jesus, He charged His disciples to preach the gospel, cast out devils, speak with new tongues, and lay hands on the sick. This direct command from the Lord was not just for those disciples, but also for every believer who accepts Him as Saviour. These marching orders are as much for us today, as it was for the disciples all those years ago. As our commander and chief, Jesus gave these instructions to bring continued growth and expansion to His kingdom here on earth. Jesus made provision to equip His army by sending the gift of the Holy Ghost to endue every believer with power (Luke 24:49). According to Acts 1:8, the Holy Ghost is power. This power equips us to fulﬁll the command of Jesus given to the church in Mark 16. Without the power of the Holy Ghost, we can accomplish nothing in this natural world to advance the kingdom of God. After the Holy Ghost came on the day of Pentecost (Acts 2), the church of Jesus Christ was born. Empowered by the Holy Ghost, Peter preached his ﬁrst sermon and 3,000 were saved! From that point forward, great change came to the earth and to the regions evangelized by the early apostles. Those who were hopelessly bound and oppressed were radically saved and completely transformed by Holy Ghost power. Miraculous healings became everyday occurrences. Entire cities were turned up side down. The early church

followed Jesus’ command and amazing results followed. I have been all over the world and have observed that the church of today pales in comparison to the church we read about in the book of Acts. Today, huge auditoriums are ﬁlled to capacity. The lights, music, and presentation are cutting edge with the latest technology. While there is nothing wrong with these things, unfortunately too often they have become a substitute for the power of God and the moving of the Holy Ghost. As a result, many churches are full of hurting people who have never been touched by the life changing power of the Holy Ghost. Massive crowds assemble and no one speaks in other tongues. Many churches hold up to ﬁve services every Sunday; yet, not one person is healed. Over the years, I have witnessed that many pastors have become ashamed of the Holy Ghost and fearful of the demonstration of power that accompanies Him. The Holy Ghost has been treated as the black sheep of the family. He has become the unmentionable person of the trinity. They have judged that tongues are too controversial. So, they do not mention them. They’ve viewed the laying on of hands as strange. So, they have strayed from praying for the sick. The message of the cross and the baptism of the Holy Ghost may not be popular or easy messages to preach. But nonetheless, are messages that

must be preached. There is no salvation without a revelation of the cross. There is no power without the presence of the Holy Ghost. How will people hear the message of the cross unless a preacher preaches about it? How will people know of the person of the Holy Ghost unless He is preached? It is time to take the Holy Ghost out of the closet and put him behind the pulpits. It is time that we stop restraining Him for fear of what others may think. We must loose Him and let Him move freely in our midst. The greatest conversions, healings, and miracles took place in the book of Acts as a result of the Holy Ghost being released in fullness upon the church and throughout the earth. How can we question the results of the early church? How can we question the formula for their success? If it worked then; surely, it will work now. I encourage every pastor to get back to the basics. Preach Jesus and His crucifixion. Preach the Holy Ghost and allow Him to baptize your people with fire, empowering them to be witnesses. I challenge every believer to seek the infilling of the Holy Ghost. He is a precious gift sent directly from Jesus Himself. All you must do is believe and then ask Him to fill you. Keeping The Right Perspective By Victoria Osteen

ne evening several years ago, I was sitting in my living room watching television when a commercial came on that really grabbed my attention. It was a simple advertisement that showed a lovely young woman strolling down a sunny street wearing a ﬂowing dress, swinging her purse by her side, and all the while singing, “I’ve got a new attitude!” She was clearly enjoying her life and appeared as if she didn’t have a worry in the world. It made me wonder where she found that fresh new outlook. She wasn’t being naïve about life, but rather she looked as if she were revelling in a recent victory and consciously making the most out of every moment of the day. Yes, it looked as if she had that new attitude because she chose it. What’s your outlook on life today? Do you wake up every morning ready to embrace the day? So many people allow their circumstances to dictate their attitudes; they don’t realize their attitude is a choice. Scripture encourages us to constantly put on a fresh new mental attitude. When we wake up in the morning, we should choose to focus on good things; we should choose to be grateful; we should choose to be excited

about the day. It is all too easy to let our responsibilities and the pressures of life cause us to drift toward the negative. But negative thinking bogs us down and causes us to lose our joy and enthusiasm. Before long, we stop appreciating our friends and family; we begin to wonder if our boss has something against us. And we begin to wonder if the entire world has something against us. Negative thinking makes the small stuff seem so much bigger, until we are living in constant worry and frustration. If that’s how you feel, take heart – your life can be different! You can take off that garment of heaviness and put on a garment of thanksgiving. That means by an act of your will, you can have a new outlook on life. Remember, we all face difficulties. We all have obstacles that seem impossible to overcome. The difference between those who are able to rise above their adversities and those who get stuck in them is their attitude. A key to enjoying your life is finding something to be thankful for every day. Make a list. Write down all the good things in your life. Review it each morning before you leave the house. This will help you focus on the treasures that fill your life, and it will give you a positive perspective and a grateful heart. We all have things for which to be grateful, but sometimes our perspective can become so distorted that we fail to recognize those good things… To keep the right perspective, we have to magnify the right things in our lives. When I come up against challenges, I remind myself of all the great things God

has done for me. I begin to thank Him for allowing me to know Him; I thank Him for my family, my children, and my husband. I recall past trials in which God made a way for me and brought me through tough times. I am always amazed how my perspective changes when I have a grateful heart and choose to count my blessings…. Anchor Thoughts • I will not be consumed by my challenges. • I will stay in faith, focus on the good, and keep the right perspective. • I choose to live this day happy, content, and grateful for what God has given me. • I will focus on what I have and not what I don’t have. • I will dwell on what’s right in my life and magnify the good. • When things are difﬁcult and I’m tempted to get discouraged, I will remember all the great things God has done in my past. • I recognise I was not created to constantly struggle and endure life. • I am making a decision to celebrate each day, to live it to the full, and to enjoy the people in my life. • I will not long for the good old days, wishing it could be like it was. I realize today I’ve got great people in my life, great opportunities, and I’m making great memories. I know these are the good old days. Now & Forever

Your Healer

In this second part of her article started in the last issue of TV4Life, Gloria Copeland examines how we can receive the healing promises of God.

esus didn’t say, “OK, this person I’ll heal…but not that one over there.” He healed all who came to Him. And we see Him doing the same thing in Matthew 8: “When the even was come, they brought unto him many that were possessed with devils: and he cast out the spirits with his word, and healed all that were sick: That it might be fulfilled which was spoken by Esaias the prophet, saying, Himself took our infirmities, and bare our sicknesses” (verses 16-17). Again in Chapter 9 we read that “Jesus went about all the cities and villages, teaching in their synagogues, and preaching the gospel of the kingdom, and healing every sickness and every disease among the people” (verse 35). I love the words “all” and “every” in those verses because Jesus is “the same yesterday, and today, and for ever” (Hebrews 13:8). That means if He healed all who came to Him then, He’ll heal all who come to Him now. If He was able to heal every sickness and disease then, He can heal every sickness and disease now! “But Gloria, we have diseases now they didn’t have then. Those terrorists might be coming up with something that’s new to us.” That may be so. But I can guarantee you one thing, they aren’t coming up with anything that’s new to God! They aren’t going to catch Him by surprise. God is never behind the devil. He’s always ahead of him! Psalm 91 proves that. It says, “A thousand may fall at your side, and ten thousand at your right hand, but it shall not come near you” (verse 7, The Amplified Bible).

When those words were written, there was no such thing as a weapon— chemical, biological or otherwise—that could kill 10,000 people at once. People who read that years ago probably wondered what God was talking about. But He was ahead of them. He was promising protection not only for the things the devil came up with in that day, but also for the things he would come up with in our day. I’m telling you, the same Jesus who healed every disease 2,000 years ago can and will heal every disease today. From the Book of Acts to Today Of course, there are those who think that just because Jesus isn’t walking the earth now, He isn’t healing anymore. But the Bible proves that’s not the case. After Jesus was crucified, raised from the dead and seated once again in heaven, His ministry of healing was just as strong as ever. In Acts 3, we see a crippled man healed. In Acts 5, we see God’s healing power operating so strongly that “They brought forth the sick into the streets, and laid them on beds and couches, that at the least the shadow of Peter passing by might overshadow some of them. There came also a multitude out of the cities round about unto Jerusalem, bringing sick folks, and them which were vexed with unclean spirits: and they were healed every one” (verses 15-16). All the way through the book of Acts we see not only the apostles, but also believers like Stephen and Philip healing multitudes. In Chapter 28, we find Paul ministering to the sick on a certain island

where he had been shipwrecked, and the Weymouth translation says they were “all” healed. Finally in James 5, clear instructions were given to the Church at large to continue in the healing power of God: “Is any sick among you? let him call for the elders of the church; and let them pray over him, anointing him with oil in the name of the Lord: And the prayer of faith shall save the sick, and the Lord shall raise him up; and if he have committed sins, they shall be forgiven him. Confess your faults one to another, and pray one for another, that ye may be healed (verses 14-16). God hasn’t changed. You can search the Bible from cover to cover and you’ll find He is the Healer—yesterday, today and forever. The New Testament says this about Jesus, “Jesus Christ the same yesterday, and today, and for ever!” (Hebrews 13:8). This is an extremely important scripture! You Need a Clear Conscience If you’ll look back through many of the scriptures I’ve included in this article, you’ll find out there’s something else about God that hasn’t changed. And if you want to live in divine health, it’s important you understand it. From the Old Testament through the New, God told His people that, if they wanted to live a healed life, they would have to obey Him. They would have to listen to His Word and act on it. God told Israel all the way through the Old Covenant, “Observe and do what I command…and you’ll be blessed.” In other words, you can’t live in sin—in

disobedience to God—and live in divine health. Sin opens the door to sickness. Does that mean every time sickness comes, it’s because you’ve sinned? Not necessarily. Sometimes it’s simply an attack of the devil. At those times, you just stand on the Word of God, keep it in your heart and your mouth in abundance. Then resist that devilish sickness until it flees from you. But I can tell you this, if you aren’t living a godly, obedient lifestyle, you won’t be able to stand on the Word. Your heart will condemn you and your faith will continually fail. It helps to have a clear conscience in receiving the healing power of God. That’s why James said we need to confess our faults and pray for our sins to be forgiven when we need healing. Sometimes I hear Christians shrug off the importance of holy living and say, “Oh, I think I‘m living a pretty good life. After all, no one is perfect.” It bothers me when I hear that. Christians aren’t supposed to live “pretty good lives.” We’re supposed to live obedient lives. We’re supposed to be perfect as our heavenly Father is perfect, to be holy as He is holy. When we stumble or fall into temptation, we are to wholeheartedly repent and receive the cleansing of the blood of Jesus. Then we get back up in the power of God’s righteousness—that’s already been given to us—and live again as obedient children of the Most High God. God’s mercy is new every morning. He is not One to hold things against you. If you will come to Him, you can be cleansed of any sin. But I’ll be honest with you, once you’re cleansed, God expects you to surrender yourself so fully to His will that you actually present your body as a living sacrifice to Him (Romans 12:1-2). Some people might think that sounds extreme, but the Bible doesn’t say it’s extreme. The Bible says it’s our “reasonable” service. It’s What God Thinks That Matters That same scripture says we’re not to be conformed to this world. We’re not to base our ideas of right and wrong on the world around us or what it thinks, because the world is ungodly and becoming more ungodly every day.

If you fill your heart with the things of the world instead of filling it with the Word of God, you’ll start thinking wrong and acting wrong. That’s because the world doesn’t know God or His ways and therefore lives in darkness. Then you’ll get sick and wonder why because sickness is part of that darkness. You might say, “Well, I don’t think I’m doing anything wrong and it’s what I think that matters.” No, it’s not. It’s what God thinks that matters. Remember what Exodus 15:26 said? “If thou wilt diligently hearken to the voice of the Lord thy God, and wilt do that which is right in his sight, and wilt give ear to his commandments, and keep all his statutes, I will put none of these diseases upon thee.” Notice that verse didn’t say you should do what is right in your sight. It says to do what is right in God’s sight, and He doesn’t change. If God says something was an abomination to Him yesterday, He won’t change His mind today just because that thing has become “socially acceptable.” Drugs aren’t right. Pornography isn’t right. Adultery isn’t right. Engaging in homosexuality isn’t right. Bitterness and unforgiveness aren’t right. Lying and cheating aren’t right—in business or in personal relationships. I don’t care how many laws are passed or how many magazine articles are written explaining why sin is OK. Sin is still sin and it puts you in bondage. Given enough time, it will kill you. That was true when the book of Genesis was written and it is still true today. Some things never change. Maybe you’re reading this today and you want to receive the healing power of God, but you know you haven’t lived in obedience to His Word. If that’s your situation, let me assure you, God is waiting for you with open arms. If you will confess that sin to God, ask Him to cleanse you of it and help you overcome it, He will do it. He will wash you with the blood of Jesus and it will be as if you never sinned at all. The righteous, perfect life that Jesus lived will be credited to you as you trust in His Name.

Then God will make you righteous with His own righteous nature, He will strengthen you with His own power and deliver you from that sin—and from the consequences of it. God will transform you inside and out. And you will find that, in the midst of this changing world, He is now—and always will be—your Healer.

London Homelessness Prevention Ofﬁcer Threatened With The Sack If He Says “God Bless” A Homelessness Prevention Ofﬁcer with Wandsworth Council has been suspended from work for nearly two months for encouraging a vagrant woman with an incurable medical condition to look to God for help, after doctors told her they’d given up hope. Duke Amachree, aged 53 was suspended for discussing his faith with

a client, and was told in an investigatory interview that he should not raise the issue of religion at work. Not only was Mr Amachree told it was inappropriate to ‘ever talk about God’, he was also told that he may not even say ‘God bless’. He is being supported by the Christian Legal Centre (CLC). Pray For Free Speech The vote to keep free speech was lost by 328 votes to 174 in the House of Commons. Free speech is a vital freedom for Christians who are called to love every individual but must be free to speak out on biblical sexual ethics. The Coroners and Justice Bill will now be considered by the House of Lords in May. Christian Concern For Our Nation (CCFON) is asking people to contact Peers to ask them to support the free speech provision and to vote against any attempt to legalise assisted suicide. “Please pray for a miracle that God will restore the free speech provision,” said Andrea Minichiello Williams, director of CCFON. Prayers And Appeal Plea For Kenya Christians are being asked to pray for Kenya as the international charity Save The Children launches an emergency appeal to raise £5 million for the country’s children. Mwikali Kavivya, 32, who works in Britain, has noticed a dramatic rise in the cost of food when she visits her husband and daughter, Winnie, in Kenya and is concerned that there has been very little rain and crops are failing. She is asking Christians to pray for her country as Save The Children launches its appeal because food shortages have reached crisis point and are expected to get worse. Mrs Kavivya said: “I would like to ask Christians to pray for the situation in

Kenya and for rain. The drought has meant the cost of food has risen and a lot of poor families cannot afford to pay the higher prices.” David Mepham, Save the Children’s Director of Policy, said: “Without a big increase in ﬁnancial resources for the poorest countries, large numbers of children will fall into poverty, drop out of school, suffer ill-health or be more exposed to violence and exploitation.” Timira Mohammed, aged 30, from NorthEast Kenya, recently lost her ﬁve-year-old daughter, Fariha to hunger and drought. Violence Against Christians In India Continues A Baptist lay leader has been killed in Orissa where 150 people were slaughtered and 50,000 people were displaced from their homes last autumn. Hrudyananda Nayak was found dead near his home in Rudangia, in Kandhamel district, according to the Catholic archdiocese for the area. Meanwhile, in Rajasthan Hindu extremists from the World Hindu Council have attacked Bible students who were

distributing gospel tracts. They allegedly beat the Christians, destroyed their literature and demanded money. In Kerala, an evangelist who was leading a service was dragged 19 miles and beaten, according to the Global Council of Indian Christians. Please ask God to intervene in India. Toy Manufacturer Bans Christian Scene A German minister has been ordered to dismantle educational biblical scenes he made using Playmobil ﬁgures because the toy makers claim he is violating copyright. Rev Markus Bomhard, 38, an evangelical preacher from Eschborn, Hesse, depicted images to help children understand stories from the bible and sometimes altered them to suit the scene. For example he melted and moulded the hands of Christ’s ﬁgure to the cross. But Germany’s favourite toy maker has instructed lawyers to write to the pastor ordering him to dismantle his montage.

The Special Time of Pentecost P

entecost is really the birthday of the church and we should celebrate it as much as the founding of our own churches or ministries. Pentecost was originally an Old Testament festival, it was called the Feast of weeks (Shavuot), and in the Old Testament was originally an agricultural festival celebrating and giving thanks for the “ﬁrst fruits” of the early spring harvest (Lev 23, Exodus 23, 34). While there are other references to Pentecost in the New Testament (e.g. 1 Cor 16:8), it is most signiﬁcant in Acts 2 and the familiar scene of the outpouring of the Holy Spirit on those in the “upper room.” The New Testament writers associate the events of Acts 2 with Pentecost, and relate it to the prophecies of Joel 2 and promises of Jesus (Acts 1:8). In both, the emphasis is on an empowerment through the Holy Spirit to enable the people of God to witness to Jesus the Christ. In many churches, Pentecost Sunday is one of the most neglected of the church calendar. No doubt there are a variety of reasons for this neglect. Also, there is caution in some church traditions concerning “Pentecostal” theology and styles of worship. The association of “Pentecostal” with sometimes more

radical elements of the charismatic movement continues to foster suspicion, in spite of several churches who carry the name “Pentecostal” that are far from “radical.” This caution sometimes leads to downplaying the role of Pentecost in the local churches. Whatever the reason for its neglect, such sacred times have value for the worshipping community and provide, not only opportunities to instruct in theology, but also new and varied opportunities for spiritual renewal, nurture, and growth. There is much debate in some circles about exactly what happened at Pentecost, whether it is a repeatable event or only for the early church, or whether it should or should not become a paradigm for personal religious experience. The coming of the Holy Spirit marks not only the birth of the New Testament church, but a continuation of Christ’s work on earth through His church, otherwise known as the body or bride of Christ. There has been a huge amount of spiritual activity within the charismatic church under the label of the Holy Spirit and some of it, to be frank, is pure hype and hysteria. For example, the idea of the pentecostal experience being solely for manifestation, which causes one to be out of control physically, is very dangerous ground. Pentecost cannot be repeated,

although some modern charismatics would argue it could. The day of Pentecost was not meant to be an event, but the birth of the Christian Church. The experience of being ﬁlled with the Spirit and giving courage and boldness to witness, of course, continue today. The gift of tongues in praising God is also still given to the church, otherwise known as the Baptism in the Holy Spirit. If we truly proclaim to be ‘the church’ then we must also be mindful of the need to celebrate our journey. The charismatic/ pentecostal church can sometimes be guilty of throwing away what the more traditional churches consider to be sacred times in the church calendar. This focus on the church’s mission to the world through Pentecost, and the enabling presence of God through the work of the Holy Spirit in the church to empower that mission, should provide a powerful impetus for churches to recover their passion for the lost. There is tremendous opportunity to use this sacred time to call people to renewal through the work of the Holy Spirit in their lives. Rev. Got To Do With It? by Joyce Meyer

hat’s love got to do with it? Love has EVERYTHING to do with it! No matter what the situation is, love should be your primary motivation and your only real consideration. Let’s take your relationships with others for starters. Do people enjoy you? Are you the kind of person people love to be with? Are you the kind of person who makes people feel relaxed, comfortable and accepted? Or are you a person who tends to easily pick out the faults and ﬂaws in others? If your friends or family don’t do everything just right, do you want to be the one who sets them straight? You may be the kind of person people resist being around because you focus on the things they are doing wrong instead of the things they are doing right. On the other hand, are you a person of grace and mercy? When others make mistakes around you, do you tend to be the type of person who simply says, “Hey, that’s okay; we all make mistakes.” How you respond to others has much more to do with attitude than it does personality. Ultimately, love makes all the difference. You see, once we understand just how much Jesus did for us—the lengths He went to in order to forgive us—it’s much easier for us to have a better attitude toward other people in our lives. We are less judgmental and less apt to ﬁnd fault. We forgive others more quickly when we clearly see Jesus for who He is…the One who knows us best and still loves us most. Think about it for a minute… You

know that Jesus died for you. But think about everything He suffered before He died. Consider the beatings, the ridicule, and the physical pain He experienced. He went through all of that for you. He became sin on your behalf. He did it because He loves you! He didn’t go through any of that just to give us a religion. He didn’t do it so we could have churches to worship in or so we could have rules to live under. All that He went through was done so we could be free from sin and love others the way He loves us. When we are able to see that clearly, we can love others openly and honestly instead of clinging to a legalistic or religious view of things, holding others to a much harsher standard than we hold ourselves to. In my case, my attitude toward others didn’t change until my attitude toward God changed. For so many years I wasn’t comfortable with God. I grew up with an abusive father, so my picture of what a loving father should be was warped from the start. The abuse from my father went on for a very long time. To make matters even worse, he was mean. He was very difﬁcult and very judgmental. I lived under the oppression of feeling that I could never do anything right. For over eighteen years, I lived in fear of what would happen next time I did something my father didn’t approve of. The result was that it was hard for me to even comprehend the concept of a heavenly Father Who loves me unconditionally with no strings attached. When I really began to understand

His love for me, my attitude began to change. I still remember how wonderful it was to get up in the morning and simply be able to say, “Good morning, Lord! I love You” without wrestling with my own feelings of inadequacy. God’s love has made all the difference in my life. And when I was able to accept and embrace God’s unconditional love for me, my attitude toward others ﬁnally began to change. I was no longer religious and judgmental. I didn’t nitpick at the faults and shortcomings of everyone. I was able to accept my friends and family for who God made them to be without expecting them to change just for me. I was able to relax and become more fun to be around. People started to like me! So, what’s love got to do with it? God’s love has everything to do with it!

Looks Like A Job For El Shaddai by Jerry Savelle

know that everywhere you look right now, there are so-called experts running around hollering that the sky is falling. I know that many of your neighbours, friends and co-workers are wringing their hands and talking about how bad things are likely to get before the year’s out. And I know the nightly news reporters might as well be replaced by those old guys from Hee Haw singing, “gloom, despair and agony on me.” Reports are depressing. I know all of that. But as I sit down to write to you today, I’m not particularly moved or impressed by any of it. You see, Carolyn and I will be marking 40 years in ministry this year, and across the last four decades, we’ve pretty much seen it all. We’ve seen the nation go through recessions, inflation, high interest rates, gasoline petrol rationing, riots and cultural revolutions, booms and busts. And personally, we’ve faced dozens of situations that, to the outside observer, looked impossible. (Most of them looked pretty impossible from the inside, too!) You may be facing your own impossible situation right now. Or you may be facing one in the near future. That’s why I have a sense of urgency to share some powerful truths and some exciting news with you in this article. So stay with me—and before I close, I want to tell you how to get a resource that will help you in the days ahead. Looks Like a Job For... As I mentioned, if the world or the devil

can concoct it, we’ve faced it; believed God; stood on His Word; and come through victorious. Across 40 years of living real life “adventures in faith;” receiving God’s grace and mercy when we made mistakes; and fervently seeking God’s supernatural wisdom for living in the victory Jesus died to purchase for us; we’ve learned some things. Recently, I have poured a lot of that accumulated insight into a brand new book that will be coming out in April. It’s titled “Called to Battle, Destined To Win.” One particular chapter in that book seems especially related to the truth I want to get across to you in this article. You see, if we’ve learned anything over the last four decades, it’s that when everyone else is declaring a situation “impossible,” God delights in stepping onto the scene in the form of “El Shaddai,” the All-Sufficient One. In the chapter called, “Looks Like a Job for El Shaddai” I wrote: “It takes El Shaddai coming on the scene when you’re faced with a situation that looks impossible. When things can’t happen in the natural, it’s a job for El Shaddai. Paul wrote, “Whereas the child [Ishmael] of the slave woman was born according to the flesh and had an ordinary birth” (Gal. 4:23, AMP). That’s the reason Ishmael could never be the heir, the seed, to Abraham’s promise. He came by ordinary birth. God did not want Isaac, the promised son, coming by ordinary means. He wanted Isaac coming by supernatural means. He wanted El Shaddai to be involved in overriding natural laws. He

wanted it to be a job for El Shaddai. That’s the truth I want you to get hold of right now. The laws of economics may say that your situation is impossible. But the Author of those laws has reserved the right to step in and supercede them. Our faithful, gracious Father delights in manifesting himself as “El Shaddai” for His children who reject fear and doubt and look to Him in expectancy and faith. Helping you do that is what that new book is all about. In fact, later in that same chapter I wrote: “Sometimes in the middle of the night, the devil will wake you up and say, “There is no way that amount of money is ever going to come into your hands.” “There is no way you can be healed.” “There is no way that you will have what you are believing for.” What do you do? You need to break out into your stance and say, “Looks like a job for El Shaddai!” “What is that “stance” in reference to? Well, you’ll have to read the book to find out but I can tell you it involves a Holy Ghost-filled hippie surfer and an elevator full of over-dressed Pentecostals. In a sense, Carolyn and I, along with our daughter Terri, feel like all of the last 40 years of learning and growing have simply been preparation for helping God’s people in this season. A Celebratory Tribute To

Rev Wynne Lewis Tributes flowed for a man who has left a spiritual legacy that will stand for eternity.

ynne Lewis, who recently went home to the Lord, took the message of the gospel to heart and preached it with power across the world. Crowds flocked to his funeral to bid him farewell, as a sign of the high esteem they had for him. Wynne had been in full time ministry for over 50 years, having served within Elim Pentecostal Church all of his ministry life. Among the many tributes being recorded on a website was one from world evangelist Reinhard Bonke, who said of Wynne: “His ministry reached to the ends of the earth and blessed multitudes.” Wynne’s son, Timothy Lewis, said: “Dad you died doing your life’s work and I am immensely proud of you. You packed so much into your time on earth and inspired so many people it is humbling to have been your son. Your loss has stunned us all and we selfishly wanted you to live forever. You were my true hero and life without you will never be the same.” Wynne, 76, had been ministering in France and was waiting for a flight at Charles de Gaulle airport when he suffered a massive heart attack. Medics rushed to the scene and took him to a local hospital, but were unable to save his life. His wife, Carol, and youngest son, Gareth, were at his bedside for an hour and a half before he passed away. Proud of his Welsh origins, Wynne trained at the Regents Park Theological College in 1950 to 1951. Almost

immediately after graduating, he planted a church in Scotland. This was the first of many throughout his ministry. He planted over 80 churches in the British Isles. In 1976, he was appointed the Evangelism and Home Missions Director of the Elim Pentecostal Church, a denomination which has some 9,000 churches worldwide. During his time in office, he was instrumental in the Church growth programmes. In 1980, Wynne became the senior minister of Kensington Temple in London. During his 11-year ministry there, he saw the church grow from 500 people into the largest Pentecostal church in Europe with well over 5,000. More than 100 nationalities attended this exciting and dynamic church. Well-known personalities from the world of sport, television, pop music and theatre came to Christ through his ministry, along with thousands of others. During his ministry, a full-time theological college was launched and hundreds of ministers have since been trained there. Wynne also instituted a church planting programme here, and to date, Kensington Temple has planted well over 100 churches in London with some 6,000 people attending every Sunday, making a total of 11,000 attending Kensington Temple and its satellites. In May 1991, Wynne was appointed the General Superintendent of the Elim Pentecostal Churches. Under his leadership, the denomination grew tremendously, both in the United Kingdom and overseas. He regularly

conducted evangelistic missions all over the world with hundreds finding Christ. His Leadership Seminars were also attended by thousands of ministers. He was the speaker on the closing night of the World Pentecostal Conference in Norway in 1992. In June 1996, he was one of two preachers at the closing service of the Sao Paulo, Brazil March for Jesus. Over one million people were in attendance. After his official retirement, Wynne continued to minister worldwide and concentrated a lot of his time on leadership development. He was able to give much more time to mentoring many young leaders, which was one of his great passions. He is survived by his wife of over 50 years and their three sons, David, Timothy and Gareth, who is Pastor of the Elim church in Cheltenham, where Wynne and Carol lived. The family would value your prayers at this time. Wynne Lewis was a remarkable man, who, from humble beginnings and with a continuing attitude of humility, deeply affected the spiritual life of not only this nation, but of nations around the world. He built churches, he built leaders and he saw thousands born-again. The Lord might truly say of him: “‘Well done, good and faithful servant; you have been faithful over a few things, I will make you ruler over many things. Isn’t it so good when we take time out to Worship God in Spirit and in Truth?

owever, there may be many occasions when we find ourselves actually incorporating the act of Worship within the realm of ‘routine activity’, times when we simply ‘fit it in’ around our busy lives. We become ‘caught up’ in daily life and all the stress surrounding that. Worship is not just about taking part in the twenty minute devotion at Church on a Sunday morning, it’s about worshipping Him in all that we do on a daily basis. It’s about our speech, mannerisms, our heart for others, our thought life, and our integrity whether

in company or alone. When we wake in the morning, we must choose to worship God in all of the above. Deuteronomy 30:19 exhorts us to choose life in all that we do so that we may have life and dwell in all that God has promised to us. Everyday we are faced with a choice and out of that choice proceeds our own life and everything added to it (Matt 6:33). Our financial position may change on a daily basis, but we must resolve to remain in a strong position of worship regardless of circumstances. Hebrews 10:23 says that we must hold fast to the confession of our hope without wavering. We must choose to

remain strong in giving, communicating respectfully with creditors and being diligent and honourable. Worship therefore, is not just about our physical song to God, it’s about a true relationship with Him when He will put a new song in our mouths (Psalm 40:3) Out of that new song springs a whole new lifestyle based on renewed thinking processes, rebirthing our act of worship into an all inclusive lifestyle incorporating all that we do, think and say. Living Carefully In The Evil Times by Rev Funke Ewuosho

“See then that you walk circumspectly, not as fools but as wise, redeeming the time, because the days are evil.” (Eph. 5:15-16)

he Ampliﬁed Bible renders verse 15 “Look carefully then how you walk! Live purposefully and worthily and accurately, not as the unwise and witless, but as wise (sensible, intelligent people).” The NIV translation also says “Be very careful, then, how you live—not as unwise but as wise.” The Bible already warns us that the days are evil. The whole world lies in wickedness, or under the sway of the wicked one. (1 John 5:19) Satan is called the god or prince of this world. If the days were deemed to be evil in the times of Paul and Peter, what would we call the days we live in presently? Satan however has no new tricks. The Bible says “all that is in the world—the lust of the ﬂesh, the lust of the eyes, and the pride of life,” (1 John 2:16) and those three things are still all that is in the world. Everything Satan is using to tempt and destroy humanity still falls within those three categories. Although Satan is the god of this world and the whole world lies in his sway; the Bible says “whatever is born of God overcomes the world. And this is the victory that has overcome the world—our faith.” (1 John 5:4) We must learn how to live carefully in these evil times to appropriate the victory that is already ours in Christ Jesus. Paul admonished the Ephesian Christians, “See then that you walk circumspectly (or carefully), not as fools but as wise.” “Wisdom is the principle thing.” (Prov 4:7) We need the wisdom of God to be able

to navigate through life. Thank God that Christ has been made unto us wisdom from God and also for the wisdom we receive from God’s Word; the Holy Spirit is also called the Spirit of wisdom in Isaiah 1:2. Let the Word speak for itself in telling us how to live carefully. Read the whole of Ephesians 5, to get the context in which Paul was speaking. How do we live carefully? Do not fellowship with the unfruitful works of darkness Paul warned in verse 7, “Therefore do not be partakers with them.” He was referring to the things he had mentioned in verses 3 and 4, namely; fornication, all uncleanness, covetousness (which is idolatry), filthiness, etc. I believe all uncleanness would include, in our own days; pornography, dirty films, etc. Someone rightly said, “Whatever entertains you, enters you.” Think about it! I believe these things actually open up our lives, our homes, our children and even our ministries, to the devil. Jesus said, “the prince of this world comes and he has nothing in Me.” Whatever Satan has in us is what gives him a foothold and the authority in our lives, to steal, kill and destroy. The Bible says, if we sow to the flesh, we will reap corruption. But if we sow to the spirit, we will reap life eternal. (Gal 6:8) Also, to be carnally minded is death (i.e. deterioration, decay, destruction, calamity, corruption, etc) but to the spiritually minded is life and peace. (Romans 8:6) Do you want peace

in your home? Then stop sowing to the ﬂesh, cease fellowshipping with the unfruitful works of darkness. Instead, start sowing to the Spirit; start sowing obedience to God’s Word and you’ll reap life and peace in every area of your life. Expose any works of darkness Eph. 5:11-12: “But rather expose them. For it is shameful even to speak of those things which are done by them in secret.” Satan is the ruler of darkness; he loves secrecy, he thrives in secrecy; that is his domain. Expose lust, pride, rebellion, sexual immorality, sin, and so on. Bring them out in the open. “The prince of this world comes and has nothing in me.” It is whatever he has in you that he will place a demand upon, either now or in the future!... Worship Leader Can you give us a brief testimony? I grew up in a distinctly religious, though not Christian, home. I would for years profess to be a Christian, though I had never tasted even a little bit of the cross of Christ. Like everyone else, it was my sinful lifestyle that brought me to the cross for the first time. I had been a pornography addict since the age of nine and had it not been for a fellow during my 10th year of school that took the time to care for me enough to share the Gospel with me, I might still be an addicted mess of a man to this day. Thankfully that day I understood that I could do nothing to rescue myself from my addiction or my eternal destination, save for believing on the God-Man Christ Jesus who died in my stead and rose so that I might walk in the newness of life as well. I’ve been walking with God for eight years now, and addiction free for over three. God has done so much in my life and it is my privilege through any means I can find to share the good news of the Gospel with everyone. What does the Lord mean to you? “But by His doing you are in Christ Jesus, who became to us wisdom from God, and righteousness and sanctification, and redemption”. The Lord Jesus has become my everything. Without Him I have nothing and am nothing. He is my Creator, Sustainer, Redeemer, Saviour, Fortress, Master, Friend, King, and God.

How has he transformed you? Like I said, I was a wretched, dark hearted, porn addicted, disobedient, selfish kid. Now, though I am not fully as He is, I am daily walking in a new life, free from addiction, loving God, hating what is evil, and finding my delight in Christ, the ultimate satisfier.

of God. As I feed on the scriptures, songs rise to the surface of my heart. It is the ultimate source for inspiration because it is living and active. God’s Word is what changes people’s hearts and makes them more like Christ. So, to the extent that I am accurately portraying the Word of God in song is the extent to which I believe I can impact my generation. Secondly, my personal experience. As I grow in my walk with Jesus, I’m learning constantly. Learning from my mistakes, learning about His Grace, learning how to walk in step with His Spirit daily.

How did you become a musician? I’ve been playing guitar since I was 12 years old. I’ve always been drawn to music. I grew up singing all the time. I never really thought to make my passion for music any sort of career, but God had other plans. Doors began to open for me to play at some coffee houses. One day my dad came to my show and afterwards he told me that if I was interested, he would put up the money for me to make an independent record. I took it as an indicator from God that this might be where he wanted me and made the record. We put it on Myspace. Three months later, totally out of the blue, I got a phone call from the president of Inpop Records. He said that he had heard my music on Myspace and wanted to ﬂy down from Nashville to Houston, TX to talk about signing me. Truly, it was a God thing. Here I am, three years and two albums later, grateful to God for what He has done.

Do you have any advice for a new Christian musician? I am always asked by budding musicians how to get their foot in the door of the Christian music industry. My advice is always the same: Don’t chase that dream (kind of a downer philosophy, huh?). What I mean is, instead of chasing the ambition to “make it” as a Christian artist, why not just chase Jesus and let Him position you where he wants you?

Jude is as relevant today as it was when it was written. Here Dr Michael Tayo Adenitire of Zoe Pentecostal Mission takes a closer look at the epistle, it’s warnings about the secret presence of false teachers who seek to overthrow the faith of God’s people and suggests an answer.

he book of Jude tells us that evil works are evidence of apostasy. He admonishes us to contend for the faith, for there are tares among the wheat, false brethren are in the Church; the saints are in danger, the danger of apostasy. God has a complete judgmental attitude towards apostasy. He did not spare the covenant people in the wilderness who believed not but destroyed them (see verse 5 and Hebrews 3 verses 8-12); He committed angels who did not keep their dominion into everlasting chains until the Day of Judgement of the great day (verse 6); and did not spare the cities of Sodom and Gomorrah who were given up into immorality but overthrew them by fire (verse 7). Terms Defined and Explained: Jude had to write to encourage them to “earnestly contend” (the Greek word is epagonizoma) for the faith. This word means “fight for”. Here Jude is writing to encourage whatever “agonizing struggle” might be necessary to defend the good name of the “faith”. The “faith” is synonymous with “common salvation” or Christianity; they are to “fight for” the honour of the faith. The emphasis is not on contention, but on the faith which Jude now described further as “once delivered unto saints”. The faith is shown to be synonymous with the apostolic preaching

by the use of “delivered” (the Greek word is paradido) which is a technical term for the preaching or handing down of the gospel message by the Apostles. What is being emphasized here is the apostolic preaching, that is, the Word of God, not an attitude of constant fighting with other believers; and that the apostles preached this word as final and authoritative message which cannot now be changed by the false teachers. God’s Attitude Toward Apostasy: Isrealite Apostasy “I will therefore put you in the remembrance.” Jude now gives three examples of how Deut.13:1-13 has been applied in history and had resulted in death and destruction for the offenders. First, those who “believed not” were destroyed (Num 14:35) that great tragedy was called the “day of bitterness” or “day of testing” in the wilderness before the entrance into the Promised Land. The greatest responsibility was upon those “spies” who brought “evil report”. They not only disbelieve themselves but they caused the people of God to despair and disbelieve the Word of God. They were “destroyed” (Num 14:36-37). Angelic Apostasy Then there were the “angels which kept not their first estate, but left their own habitation” whom He has “reserved” to

the Day of Judgment. With this compare Gen.6:1-4, the apocryphal interpretation of which both Peter (2 pet 2:4.9) and Jude accept, at least for the purpose of the illustration; Jude was drawing illustration of God’s judgement in history from a book his recipients were familiar with and a practice that was common in his day (see also 2 Pet 2:1 1-2) and is common in the literature from the period between the Testaments and the early church fathers (e.g. Justin apology) Pagan Apostasy The third example of Jude is taken from God’s fiery destruction of the cities of “Sodom and Gomorrah” and the surrounding cities which committed fornication and went “after strange flesh”. The use of “fornication” (the Greek word is Exporneuò), which occurs, only here in the New Testament, with “strange flesh” refers to the distinctive and terrible sin of Sodom, homosexuality, for which God destroyed the whole area. Two angelic visitors had come to Lot (Gen 19:1). When they were there, the inhabitants of Sodom surrounded the house, demanding that Lot should bring out his visitors that they might know them. It was as a result of their sodomy that their cities “Sodom and Gomorrah” were obliterated from the face of the earth. Today’s Christians must be on guard for false doctrines which can so easily deceive us if we are not well versed in the Word. A Call To The

Rebuilders

The Prophetic Truth by Prophetess Angela Johnson

n the days of Nehemiah, God instructed him to rebuild the wall of Jerusalem that had been broken down by their enemies. When Nehemiah shared with the leaders the burden that God had put in his heart, the leaders all rose in one accord and started to rebuild the broken wall. The rebuilding started from the High priest, Nehemiah 3. The Kingdom of God must be rebuilt on a right foundation not on lies, deceit, idolatry, fornication, adultery or hatred. Love is the cornerstone of the Kingdom of Jesus Christ and we will be able to rebuild the broken walls when we love one another as Christ loves the church. The church cannot afford to falter at this time of God’s vengeance against those who reproach His name. If we are God’s people, we must obey His voice and not allow the devil to sow seeds of competition and jealousy into our hearts to stop us from hearing the voice of His prophet. The church should listen to the

revelation that God is giving to me on a day to day basis and follow His instructions on what the church must do in order to avoid disaster. “However, when He, the Spirit of truth, has come, He will guide you into all truth; for He will not speak on His authority, but whatever He hears He will speak; and He will tell you things to come” John 16: 13. And by the hand of a prophet, God delivered Israel and by a prophet Israel was kept, Hosea 12:13. God chooses whom He wants to use in every generation, I still do not understand why many people are struggling to come to terms with the fact that God choses who He wants to reveal His mind to so that the church can know what to do in order to escape calamity. The very last place Balak took Balaam to was a place called Peor (gap) so that he could see Israel’s faults and perhaps curse them. All that the devil was trying to use Balaam to do was to hinder the children of God from entering into their promised land. But God averted his schemes because Moses the Prophet was interceding for them. Jesus said to Peter, “And on this rock I will build My church, and the gates of Hades shall not prevail against it. And I will give you the keys of the kingdom of heaven”, Matthew 16: 18-19a. The adversary wants to prevent the church from getting ready for the return of our Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ. The Lord told me that there are agents of the devil who are using God’s people to build their kingdom (Pithoms and

Raamses) just as Pharaoh did. They are refusing to let His children go to serve Him. But God is determined to deal with them and release His people just as He did to Pharaoh. “Yet now be strong, Zerubbabel, says the Lord, and be strong, Joshua son of Jehozadak, the high priest; and be strong, all you people of the land, says the Lord, and work for I am with you, says the Lord of hosts”, Haggai 2: 4. God has promised that if He can ﬁnd ten righteous leaders in any city, He will save that place for His glory. Many people are anxious about their money because money is their backbone; the bible says that “Wisdom is a defence as Money is a defence.” But the excellence of knowledge is that wisdom gives life to those who have it. Ecclesiastes 7:12. Prophecy: On the 16th of January, the Lord told me to warn the church and the world at large that a severe drought and famine will start on the 14th September 2014. This date will end the seven year period of the recession and mark the beginning of the drought and famine. He emphasised that the only people or nations who will be able to stock or preserve food during these days will be true believers.
