The Lord always amazes me how he leads TV4Life magazine. For this issue, for example, I felt led to choose God’s power as the theme. However, the Lord introduced articles about His glory and I soon realized that the theme needed to be on both. Several of our articles look at the themes of power (p24, p32 and p62) and glory (p 20 and p41). Andrew Wommack teaches on having the authority to release God’s Power and we have 50 copies of his CD or DVD on the topic to give away (see p8). People power can help our appeal to raise money for a well in Kenya. Please give because “Every Drop Counts” (p66) If God gives you power to do something, give Him the glory (Matthew 6:13). Encouraging ! TV4Life is a blessing to me and my friends. It lets me know when people are on satellite television and gives me chance to record their programmes if I am going to be out. Sometimes I record programmes so people at my church who don’t have satellite television can watch them and get the encouragement that I do. I find the articles in TV4Life interesting. Joyce Meyer’s articles are very good. No one can beat her. I had an awful childhood like her. My parents didn’t want me and gave me away, but God helped me and filled me with His love. May I suggest TV4Life indexes both outer edges of the listings pages to make it easier for readers to find the stations, especially myself, who has one hand badly fractured. Many thanks. Miss M. You just have to take God’s example as a father and the references to Jesus being the husband of the Church. “The verses that come to mind are: Ephesians 5 verse 25 to 33. Also “Love your neighbour as yourself”, “Song of Songs” and much of Proverbs. My husband is not a committed Christian and I keep praying the Lord will save him. God recently told me to start showing my husband more respect, which I did by giving up my seat at the dining table which has a view onto the garden. This little sacrifice has made a big difference to our relationship. My husband is now showing me more respect and love too.

hen God tells us to do something, how many of us are obedient and do it without question?
Howard and Lesley Conder are such people. Howard sold his car and other personal belongings so Revelation TV could move closer to fulfilling the Lord’s Great Commission. After prayer and fasting with members of the leadership team to seek direction from the Lord, the Conders amalgamated Genesis TV and Revelation TV and got together all of the funds they could so they could move Revelation TV to a stronger Sky slot (581) in order to minister more to the unsaved. Since Revelation TV first started seven years ago, it has been one of the few Christian TV networks to interact with nonbelievers. It airs programmes like R Mornings, where viewers are encouraged to call in to participate in live debates on topical issues. Howard is now hoping to catch the attention of more stray, non-Christian viewers. The sky platform 581 became vacant when GOD TV amalgamated God channel and God Europe and Howard was determined to buy the slot for his new channel. “I am delighted with the changes. It is a very positive move both in financial terms and also from the position of being right next to God. I’ve always wanted to be next to God (or at least God TV),” he laughed. “When I learned their 581 position was being made available due to God TV giving up the God TV Europe slot, I prayed and fasted that the Lord would allow us to get this valuable EPG position. “I believe when new viewers come to look for religious programmes they start at 580, but by the time they get lower down the menu they switch off. We are probably the only interactive channel with live debates, whereas most other channels debates are pre-recorded. I want to reach these new people before they switch off.” Howard, who is an evangelist at heart, said he was inspired by the Lord’s parable of the merchant who sold all he had to buy the perfect pearl (Matthew 13: 45 and 46). “I sold my car and did everything I could to get the money together to buy
this particular position, as it was a lot of money,” said Howard. For some time the leadership of Genesis and Revelation had been considering how best to move the two channels forward. It became clear as they fasted and prayed that there was spare air time on both channels which was being filled with old material and repeats. Programmes were sometimes repeated up to four times, but now will only be shown once or twice. Most viewers will be able to view the schedule and record programmes at home. The merged channels are keeping the title Revelation TV because this was the name the Lord gave to Howard before the TV station started. It already had a Spanish licence and on April 1st the station started operating its head office from Spain. This is to comply with European regulations. Many of the viewers’ favourite programmes – “R Mornings”, “She Matters”, “Bible Study”, “Live At Nine”, “Voice In The Wilderness”, “Simply The Truth” are continuing, as well as the best of the ministry programmes. By popular demand, “God Morning” is back and a new programme “Five Alive” will be showing monday to friday at 5:00pm and Howard will be hosting a new revamped “World In Focus programme.” Earlier this year, Revelation won Christian Broadcast Media Awards for “The One To One” Music show, “R Kids Easter Special”, “Live@nine” and “The Waters Cleaved”, a documentary about the overwhelming evidence of a World Wide Flood” Howard thanked everyone involved. “With our continual drive for excellence in standards, and our desire to walk humbly before our God, we hope to go on to
achieve even greater things,” said Howard, who was previously a drummer with the 60s group, The Barron Knights, Joe Brown and the Bruvvers, Billy Fury and Unit Four plus Two. Howard also worked as a record producer for the Beatle’s management company NEMS Enterprises where he was privileged to audition the Bee Gees when they first came to England. At the peak of his career as a musician, Howard had it all. He was rich and successful, but was not content and embarked on a spiritual search, which was only satisfied by Lord Jesus Christ and by reading the Bible. In 1982, he married Lesley and after running a recording studio in Florida, they joined Youth with a Mission’s Discipleship Training Course on the Mercy Ship the Anastasis. Howard had intended to join a media team in Texas, but received a word from a man of God indicating he should go to Eastern Europe instead. After spending some time in Romania, Howard and Lesley felt stirred by the Lord to see quality Christian Television established in the UK and the rest is all history. Together the couple have six children, five of whom are involved in running Revelation TV; Miles, Luke, Joel, Rebecca and Bethany. Lesley said: “Revelation TV is not a job for me, it is our life, and we give our lives to the Lord to use us as He chooses. I still can’t understand why God would have chosen such an ordinary family to do such an extraordinary task, but we have been obedient and carry the vision with enthusiasm and determination.” She added: “We are excited at what we believe God is going to be doing in these coming months and look forward to travelling the journey with our viewers.”

here are a number of keys to seeing the miraculous power of God manifest on a consistent basis. One of the least understood, and therefore seldom practiced, is the fact that healing is under the authority of the believer. God has already provided His healing power and placed it on the inside of every bornagain believer. It is up to us to release it. Understanding and using our authority is the key to seeing miracles happen. Look at how Peter and John ministered healing to the lame man at the Beautiful temple gate in Acts 3:1-8:
“Then Peter said, Silver and gold have I none; but such as I have give I thee: In the name of Jesus Christ of Nazareth rise up and walk. And he took him by the right hand, and lifted him up: and immediately his feet and ankle bones received strength.” Notice that Peter didn’t pray for this man. He also didn’t ask God to heal him. He said, “Such as I have give I thee.” This didn’t mean that Peter was the source of this healing. Look what Peter said in Acts 3:12,
“Ye men of Israel, why marvel ye at this? or why look ye so earnestly on us, as though by our own power or holiness we had made this man to walk?” It was God’s power that healed this man, but that power was under Peter’s authority. Peter went on to say in verse 16 that it was faith in the name of Jesus that had wrought this miracle. But Peter didn’t ask God to heal this man. He believed the Lord had already done His part and 8 may/jun

had placed that power within him. Now it was Peter’s responsibility to release that power, and that’s what he did. The Lord never told us to pray for the sick in the sense that we ask Him to heal them. He told us to heal the sick. There is a big difference between the two. It has to do with operating in the authority He has already given us. Look at these commands the Lord gave His disciples.
I know this goes contrary to popular Christian doctrine. We’re constantly told that it’s not us but God who is the Healer, and I agree with that totally. But, I also believe that God has placed His healing power under our authority, and it is up to us to release it. If we don’t take our authority and become commanders instead of beggars, God’s power will not be released. There needs to be a radical renewing of our thinking on this issue.
“Then he called his twelve disciples together, and gave them power and authority over all devils, and to cure diseases. And he sent them to preach the kingdom of God, and to heal the sick.”(Luke 9:1-2)
Peter had people line the streets so that if only his shadow would touch them, they would be healed (Acts. 5:15).
“And when he had called unto him his twelve disciples, he gave them power against unclean spirits, to cast them out, and to heal all manner of sickness and all manner of disease.” (Matt. 10:1)
“Thus saith the LORD, the Holy One of Israel, and his Maker: “Ask me of things to come concerning My sons, and concerning the work of My hands command ye Me”.”
“And as ye go, preach, saying, The kingdom of heaven is at hand. Heal the sick, cleanse the lepers, raise the dead, cast out devils: freely ye have received, freely give.” (Matt. 10:7-8) Jesus told us to heal the sick not pray for the sick. What a radical statement! This will get you kicked out of most churches today, but these are the exact words of our Lord Jesus Christ. And this is precisely why more people don’t see the miraculous results they’re praying for. They aren’t taking their authority and commanding God’s power; they’re passively asking God to do what He told them to do.
Look at an amazing passage of Scripture in Isaiah 45:11.
What a powerful scripture! What does the Lord mean when He tells us to command Him? Well, He certainly doesn’t mean we are mightier and more powerful than Him and can order Him around. He means, concerning the things He has already done, He wants us to take our authority and command His power. It’s like electricity. The power company generates the power and delivers it to your house. It’s not your power, but it’s under your control. You don’t call the power company and ask them to turn the lights on. No! They won’t do that. They generate the power, but it’s under your command. You simply flip the switch on the wall and command the power to work. Does this mean you are the power source? tv4life.com
Certainly not! You can put a light bulb in your mouth, and it will never come on. You aren’t the power source, but you are the one in control of what that power does. You can plead with the power company all you want, but they won’t flip the switch for you. You have to assume your authority and acknowledge the power is under your command. That’s what the Lord was speaking of. He has already healed everyone who will ever be healed. He did it 2,000 years ago when He bore our stripes on His back. Then He deposited His resurrection power inside every believer (Eph. 1:19-20). He’s done His part, and now it is up to us to do ours. We need to take the authority He has given us and become commanders instead of beggars. This is a powerful truth that works, and it’s the reason we see so many miraculous healings. We aren’t just praying for the sick; we are healing them in Jesus’ name. As the General Election approaches, Revelation TV aired a controversial live debate on “Live At Nine” between two key candidates for Barking in the upcoming elections - the Revd. George Hargreaves (pictured left), leader of the Christian Party, and Nick Griffin (right), leader of the BNP. About 50 people protested outside of the studio as the debate took place and two people had to be escorted from the set. The subject of the debate was the motion: “That the election of any BNP MP or leader of a Local Authority will be detrimental to Black and ethnic minority Christians in particular and the wider church in general in Britain.” Revd. Hargreaves obviously stood for the motion, and Mr Griffin opposed it defending the BNP’s inclusion and benefit to black and ethnic minority Christians. Despite the majority of our members being full-time workers, these meetings are deemed as an essential part of life at VPA. This prayer meeting led, by Pastor Alex Omokudu, is an energetic and spiritually fulfilling time, and is a powerful prayer point of spiritual warfare, breaking down strongholds and deep rooted spiritual curses or hindrances. This one-hour meeting causes road blocks in the Thames road, as people flock in thousands to attend. 1 Corinthians 1:27 says, “But God hath chosen the foolish things of the world to confound the wise; and God hath chosen the weak things of the world to confound the things, which are mighty”. A passage some would say that perfectly summarizes the early life of VPA’s founder Pastor Alex Omokudu. Born penniless and unable to speak, he was mocked by both his family and the community around him. Unable to feed or properly clothe himself, there were times when he thought he would have been better off dead. Though he was not qualified by the standards of men, God took him from his dire beginnings and has elevated him and equipped him with all the gifts and traits he has needed to oversee a ministry.

From the 29th-31st of December 2009, VPA hosted its annual feet washing. An event that starts on the last day of the year and runs into the New Year. During the final day, Pastor Alex set about washing the feet of every single one of the 5000 that were in attendance as they walk into the “Year of Supernatural Abundance.” Despite the auditorium being completely packed, this seemed to only lend itself to the atmosphere. Men, women and children for the entire duration of the night were on their feet, hands held high, completely overwhelmed by the presence and healing power of God as two women who were wheelchairbound walked that night. The next VPA feet washing is scheduled for 9th - 11th of June 2010.

Pastor Alex was uniquely called into ministry through a series of dreams. Born into a life of unimaginable poverty in Africa none could have predicted that the boy, who could not speak, read or write, would grow to become a vital instrument in the battle for souls in a strange land.
In November of 2009, God instructed Pastor Alex to tell the women of the Church who were looking for the “fruit of the womb” to buy prams and then place them on the altar. Since then there has been an explosion of pregnancies in the Church. Women who were told they could not physically carry a child are testifying of the goodness of the Lord. This Includes a G.P. who had no tubes to her womb but has now tested pregnant. Another incident where a woman brought a buggy to stand in for her friend but, actually received the fruit of the womb herself. This shows the awesome and present power of God in the house. Also at the Night of Freedom event of November 2009, Pastor Alex declared that there would be an out-pouring of immigration breakthrough for all those who believed. Since then till now, VPA has also recorded over 200 “Indefinite Leave to Remain” cases being granted by the British Government to its members, who in most cases were not eligible for the status. In one case, the letter from the Home Office stated, “Although you are not qualified for this”. This can only be the finger of God, manifesting His Word spoken to the mantle God is using in this end time.
This centre of excellence is committed to building up people of purpose, power and praise, and nursing the afflicted to deliverance, the down trodden to a royal priesthood, for many are the afflictions of the righteous, but the Lord delivers him out of them all.
Testimony “Praise be to God. Brethren, Praise the name of our Lord. Honestly, I am so thankful to God for ordering my steps on this ground. Church, appreciate this God for me who has done a mighty thing in my life and I will forever be grateful to His name. I came on vacation to the United Kingdom as a result of my affliction. I am from Abuja, Nigeria and I am a manager at work. I applied for my holiday and I went to a healing school in Johannesburg, South Africa, seeking a cure because of a growth on my neck and on getting there, I was told I was a week late and in the process decided to come to England. “After settling down, I got talking to my son and raised concerns about the development of the growth on my neck and was quite surprised on his calmness about the issue. He told me “Mum, God will do it”. He then invited me to come and see what

God is doing in VPA where he worships through Pastor Alex. I said, “Okay” despite the fact that I had never come across VPA before. Brethren, I followed my son on a Sunday for the first service and was quite surprised with the number of people that shared their testimonies. Silently, I was thanking God and I said “If God can do all these issues on this ground for all the testifiers, then my son cannot be mistaken by inviting me to come and fellowship here.” I came for counselling the next day and had the opportunity to see Pastor Alex on one-to-one basis. He looked at the growth on my neck, blessed the oil and Ribena I brought before him, and asked me to start counselling immediately and that God will terminate whatever does not look like Jesus in my life. As instructed, I started my deliverance and came for impartation on Tuesdays and came every other day for the deliverance service. Before I knew it, I started eating and even my son noticed that the growth that was so swollen on my neck had started disappearing and after a week we noticed that truly sickness does not belong to the body of Christ. Jesus made me whole by terminating that growth on my neck and I have to say a big thank you to the Almighty who has done this for me and secondly to thank the vessel God has used for my healing, Pastor Alex.

“Show Me Your Glory” by Jonathan Miller
I
n Exodus 33:11, it says, “And the Lord spoke to Moses face to face, as a man speaks to his friend….” Can you imagine the Creator of the Universe, the Lord God Almighty, speaking to you in such a personal, intimate way? How awesome this experience must have been for Moses! The Lord was speaking to him as a close friend. He had God’s undivided attention. If there was ever a time to ask something of the Lord, surely this was it. I cannot help but wonder if you and I were in the same position as Moses, what would we ask? Would we ask for a miracle? A sign? A wonder? Or, a blessing? Would we ask for ourselves or would we ask for someone else? I believe what Moses asked for during this supernatural visitation is very significant. He only asked for one thing, “Lord, show me Your Glory.” Instead of asking for God to do something, he asked God to reveal the fullness of “who” He was. If we are honest, most of us would have to admit that we often seek the Lord for what He can “do.” When we merely seek Him for what He can do, we experience certain aspects of His character, but, we do not experience Him in the fullness of His essence. What Moses asked of the Lord,

gives us a powerful example to follow. For, God is looking for a people who will seek after the knowledge of “who” He is to intimately know Him and His fullness. The Lord answered Moses’ request. He revealed Himself. In Exodus 34:6, The Lord declared His name and uncovered “who” He is. “And the Lord passed by before him, and proclaimed, The Lord, The Lord God, merciful and gracious, longsuffering, and abundant in goodness and truth.” Then, in verse 7, He tells what He does as a result of who He is; “Keeping mercy for thousands, forgiving iniquity and transgression and sin…” God reveals “who” He is before He reveals what He does. Because He is merciful He keeps mercy for thousands. Because He is gracious He forgives iniquity. In Ex 34:9, Moses interceded on behalf of Israel, asking for the Lord to forgive them. But, this was not his first request. He first asked for the Lord to reveal His Glory. He knew that God’s Glory was the fullness of who God is. He understood that when God’s Glory is revealed, it brings everything else with it! This fact is confirmed by the coming of Christ to the earth. John 1:14 tells us that Jesus was the Glory of God made

flesh. When Jesus came to the earth, Glory came to the earth. And, oh, how forgiveness came with it! Miracles came with it! Every need of man was met when the Glory of God came to the earth through the person of Jesus!! We must begin to seek to know the fullness of “who” God is. For most of us, our study and prayer life tends to be centered on finding out “what He can do,” instead of “who” He is. Some come to church just because they need God to do something in their lives. If we merely seek God for what He can do rather than for who He is, our faith will be up one day and down the next. Why? Because if God is not doing what we expect when we expect it, then our faith is damaged. But, if our faith is rooted in who He is, then even the times when it seems like He is “not doing,” our faith will be unaffected. Right now, ask your Heavenly Father, “Lord, show me Your Glory!” He will sovereignly visit you and uncover the fullness of His very nature. o you have hope for your future? Or do you generally expect negative or disappointing things to happen? I was taught to be negative when I was growing up. I lived in an abusive atmosphere with negative people, alcoholism, fear, ranting and raving… As a result, I developed an attitude that it was better to expect nothing good than to expect it and be disappointed when it didn’t happen. I often wondered, What’s going to go wrong next? It wasn’t until I was an adult that I realized I was living with evil forebodings, which created a vague feeling around me all the time that something bad was going to happen. Then one day, God spoke to my heart about this. He showed me that I was dreading that something bad was going to happen, but He wanted me to expect good things to happen. Jeremiah 29:11 (AMP) tells us that God’s thoughts and plans for us are “for welfare and peace and not for evil, to give you hope in your final outcome.” God wanted me to say, “Something good is going to happen!” The truth is, God doesn’t work in us through negative attitudes full of selfpity, laziness, passivity or an “everybody owes me” perspective. God works through faith! But before we can have faith, we have to have hope.
I Became a Prisoner of Hope! Hope is favourable and confident expectation; it’s an expectant attitude that something good is going to happen and things will work out, no matter what situation we’re facing. Zechariah 9:12 (AMP) says, “Return to the stronghold [of security and prosperity], you prisoners of hope; even today do I declare that I will restore double your former prosperity to you.” I like the phrase “prisoners of hope.” Think about it. If you’re a prisoner, you have no choice about it – you can’t be negative. And when times are tough or you’re dealing with disappointment, hope will cause you to rise up in faith and say, “God, I praise You and I believe You’re working on this situation and working in me. My faith, trust and hope are in You!” Hope is determined and doesn’t give up. God wants us to be locked up in hope, trusting that He can change what needs to be changed, that we can do what He wants us to do, and that all things are possible with God. If we will be steadfast in our hope, we can’t lose – we have to be winners in life. When God called me to ministry, it didn’t happen overnight. There were many years of preparation and building up what is now a worldwide ministry. During those years, I wanted to quit many times. But my testimony is, I’m still here! And if you won’t give up, you’ll have victory too. Human nature is impatient, selfish and wants things quickly. Why is it that

although it takes us years to get into our messes, we expect God to get us out of them in a few days? In John 16:33, Jesus tells us that we are going to have tribulation, trials, distress and frustration in this world, but in spite of that, we can be of good cheer and take heart. Why? Because He has overcome the world. And when we live in Him, we become overcomers too! That’s why Jesus died for us. He came to save us from sin and death and to give us abundant life – now. And I’m determined to have everything Jesus died to give me. Make a decision to have everything Jesus died to give you. You have to do it on purpose. Be determined to do what God wants you to do and refuse to live with negative expectations. od’s power is without a doubt the most dominating force on the earth today. There are very few Christians that doubt that God has more than enough power to handle any circumstance, debt or disease that we face, no matter how overwhelming. What less of us realize, however, is that God has delegated His power on earth to His church. Jesus is the head and we are the body and the two are inseparably linked. There are two verses of scripture that drive this point home in an incredible way. The first verse is Acts 10:38 which talks about the power of God in Jesus’ life. It says that “God anointed Jesus of Nazareth with the Holy Ghost and power, who went about doing good and healing all that were oppressed of the Devil”. The second verse, found in Acts 1:8, describes the power of God on the church where Jesus says “But you shall receive power after that the Holy Ghost has come upon you and you shall be witnesses unto me….” Remarkably, it is the same Greek word used in both times to describe the power of God. It is the word “dunamis”. In the English language, we get the word dynamite from this Greek word because it describes “explosive power”. The question we need to ask ourselves is

how could we possibly experience the same power in our lives that Jesus experienced in His life? The reason is simple; it’s the same Holy Ghost operating through the church as operated through Jesus Christ Himself! Remember that Jesus said that if He went away, He would send the Holy Spirit to us. (John 16:7). The Holy Spirit is the power source of the New Testament church. In John 14:12 that “Verily, verily, I say unto you, He that believeth on me, the works that I do shall he do also; and greater works than these shall he do; because I go unto my Father”. Notice again that Jesus said these greater works would begin to occur when He went to His Father. What was so important about the moment Jesus returned to His Father? That was when He would send the Holy Spirit to his church. On the day of Pentecost, the sound of a rushing, mighty wind came blowing from heaven and tongues of fire sat upon the heads of 120 people. They all began to speak with other tongues and glorify God and the next thing we know, 3000 people are born again and a man who was paralyzed from birth is running around in the temple. What was that? It was the same Holy Spirit who had empowered Jesus. Some people have argued that miracles passed away with the

apostles,but my friend this is simply not true. The only thing that passed away with the apostles was the apostles! The Holy Spirit still burns with holy fire, still opens blind eyes, still saves from house to house and still saves in mass crusades. Demons still tremble at the name of Jesus and the gospel is still the power of God unto salvation. This is why I find it concerning that so many of our Spirit filled churches are trying to back away from the power and gifts of the Holy Spirit. My friend, the Holy Spirit will not ruin your church, He will save your city! We need to develop our relationship with the Holy Spirit through time spent in continued prayer. God’s Power Seen In Case Victories

A BBC documentary recently tackled the issue “Are Christians Being Persecuted?” Barrister Andrea Minichiello Williams appeared in the programme. She is the Director of Christian Concern For Our Nation (CCFON), which alerts the Church to legal and political changes as they arise, and the Christian Legal Centre (CLC), which offers legal support to Christians facing discrimination. Here she reports on recent cases where God has given several important victories. CCFON Public Policy Successes Controversial provisions in the Government’s Equality Bill would have further reduced the freedom of churches to employ only people with consistent Christian beliefs and lifestyles. CCFON campaigned heavily on the issue along with other Christian organisations and the provisions were defeated in the House of Lords on 25th January. It was a remarkable victory that would not have happened but for the prayer and action of many Christians—the final amendment passed by just five votes. Again on 7th April, a great deal of prayer and campaigning by Christians prevailed and the Government were forced to abandon their plans for sex and relationships education (“SRE”) and home education. The Government was running out of time to pass the Children, Schools and Families Bill before the General Election and pressure from the opposition parties resulted in the deletion of those clauses. The Bill would have made SRE a statutory part of the National Curriculum for all children in England over the age of five and parents would have lost the right to withdraw their children from SRE lessons once they turned 15. Schools would have had to teach SRE in a way that encouraged 26 may/jun
acceptance of same-sex relationships and that informed pupils of a range of viewpoints on sex and relationships, including how to access an abortion. The home education provisions would have imposed a bureaucratic licensing system on parents and non-registration of a home-educated child could have led to parents being fined. CLC Case Victories Last November, Olive Jones, a Christian supply teacher from Weston-super-Mare, offered to pray for a sick pupil and was dismissed. CLC offered Olive legal advice, informed supporters about her case, and many people prayed. Early this year the Council arranged to meet Olive and having heard the full facts of the case, affirmed that it valued Olive’s skills and offered her the opportunity to return to work. Praise the Lord! Last year the London Borough of Lambeth served a large church with a Noise Abatement Notice, even though the church has been there for over 45 years and is actively involved in the local community. Two residents were opposed to the Church and objected to the noise the children made after the services. Knowing they could not serve a Notice against children playing, the local authority prevented the Church amplifying sermons and worship, under threat of prosecution. Again, CLC tv4life.com
publicised the case and people prayed. In January, the day before CLC was due to represent the church in court, Lambeth Council withdrew the complaint. Another London church was served with a Noise Abatement Notice by Waltham Forest Borough Council. The Notice followed repeated complaints by a Muslim neighbour about the church’s worship. In February, after CLC representation, the Council agreed to settle the case with the Church out of court. This case should help to protect other churches in the future by establishing the important principle that such Notices must be precise and objective. We believe that the Lord has delivered these two churches and we thank Him that nothing is impossible for Him. Devon Nurse Loses Cross Case A Christian nurse who was given a clerical job after refusing to remove her crucifix at work has lost a discrimination claim against her employers. Shirley Chaplin, from Exeter, said the cross ban prevented her from expressing her religious beliefs. But an employment tribunal ruled that the Royal Devon and Exeter Hospitals NHS Trust, where she worked, had acted in a “reasonable” manner. It said the damage to Mrs Chaplain had only been “slight”. Mrs Chaplain said: “The Trust may have won the legal argument, but its reputation has been damaged as the moral argument was won before I even entered the Tribunal.”
Millionaire Gives Up Cash In “Pact With God.”
Young evangelical Christians are planning to vote in the upcoming General Election. According to the Evangelical Alliance, 81 per cent of 18 to 24-year-olds surveyed at Soul Survivor’s “Momentum” event last summer said they planned to vote. The news comes as 35 Christian leaders launched Westminster 2010, a declaration of Christian Conscience. It is asking all parliamentary candidates to pledge that they will “respect, uphold and protect the right of Christians to hold and express Christian beliefs and act according to Christian conscience”. Albert Gubay, the multi-millionaire Kwik Save tycoon, has given his vast business empire to charity to fulfil a “pact with God”, according to a daily newspaper. When he was working as a penniless sweets-seller in Wales after the Second World War the devout Roman Catholic vowed to hand over half his fortune to the Church if he ever became rich, the Telegraph reported. At the age of 82, he has fulfilled the deal by giving almost his entire £480 million estate to a new charitable foundation, keeping less than £10 million for himself.
Thoughts From The Pope The Pope could appear on Radio 4’s “Thought For The Day” slot after Mark Thompson, the BBC directorgeneral made a personal approach to the Vatican. Charity Launches New Appeal To Help Street Children
The Christian charity Toybox, which works with youngsters living and working on the streets in Latin America, has launched a new appeal to raise £50,000 for El Salvador. The “Red Alert” initiative in the capital city will change the lives of many children by supporting network projects which help them. It involves prevention work with families and vulnerable children to stop them going onto the streets, outreach to children who are already there, and advocacy to change the root causes of children going onto the streets in the first place. Currently 1.8million children aged five to seven are involved in child labour in El Salvador. See www.toybox.org.uk
Religious Liberty Partnership has expressed deep concern over the way in which deadly clashes between Christians and Muslims are being handled by the Nigerian Government. At least 109 men, women and children were massacred in villages near Jos recently. More than 2,000 people have been killed in communal violence in Plateau State since 2001. The Cyprus Statement acknowledges the role the church in Nigeria has played in trying to end the violence and also asks Christians worldwide to provide humanitarian aid and support reconciliation efforts. Mervyn Thomas, head of Christian Solidarity Worldwide (CSW) and RLP Chairman, said: “If these people continue to kill with impunity, the violence will escalate even further, and will eventually endanger the entire nation.” Open Doors, which serves persecuted Christians, is also appealing for funds to provide aid. Plight of North Korean Prisoners Highlighted In The European Parliament
The appalling human rights violations taking place in North Korea’s prison camps were set to be highlighted in the European Parliament. Former North Korean prisoner Shin Dong-hyuk of Liberty in North Korea (LiNK), and Christian Solidarity Worldwide (CSW) were due to give evidence at a hearing to be held by the Subcommittee on Human Rights at the time of going to press. A documentary film, “Kimjongilia”, was also being screened at the European Parliament in Brussels as part of the One World human rights festival. The film gives insight into the shocking realities of conditions in North Korea’s prison camps. The Open Doors organization placed North Korea at the top of its World Watch List 2010 as the worst place for Christians to live. CSW’s Advocacy Director Tina Lambert said: “It is time for the EU to seriously consider ways in which the crimes against humanity perpetrated by the North Korean regime can be investigated, and the culture of impunity addressed”.

Making A The Bible tells us that “the love of money is the root of evils in the world today is human trafficking. TV4Life’s

arissa was an innocent teenager when she was sold, raped, beaten and threatened. Born in Eastern Europe, her alcoholic father would regularly beat her. When she was 13-years-old, her aunt sold her to a man who sold her again. The second man “took me to a house and raped me. I was a virgin until then,” she said. Marissa was eventually smuggled into England where she ended up in a London brothel seeing up to 70 customers a day. She said: “I did not ask anyone for help. I was too frightened. My traffickers threatened to kill me, and do the same to my siblings. I was badly beaten often and have many scars.” Marissa, who is now in her 20s, eventually found the courage to escape and went to the police for help. Marissa is just one victim of human trafficking. It is probably one of the most lucrative criminal industries in the world (followed closely by arms and drugs) with the total annual revenue estimated to be between £3.29 billion and £5.9 billion. The United Nations estimates nearly 2.5 million people from 127 countries are being trafficked around the world today. The victims are coerced, exploited, kidnapped, held captive and often raped and find themselves involved in forced labour, domestic slavery or the sex industry. Many victims are children. You may be asking yourself what has that got to do with me? I am a committed born-again Christian who goes to church and is working out their salvation “with fear and trembling”. our concern. “He has sent Me to heal the brokenhearted, To proclaim liberty to the captives, And the opening of the prison to those who are bound…” You can find out more through the many voluntary and government agencies tackling human trafficking and people smuggling. The UK Human Trafficking Centre was created to lead the fight against human trafficking and has launched the Blue Blindfold campaign to raise awareness and support victims. The Poppy Project helps prostitutes, Stop The Traffik and International Justice Mission UK aim to see traffickers prosecuted and the International Organization For Migration (IOM) helps people return home. A National Referral Mechanism is currently being developed which will help organizations identify victims of trafficking so they can quickly be assessed and helped. On 12th November 2009, the Government published a draft Immigration Bill, showing the progress that is being made on simplifying our laws to migration agencies. Human trafficking is happening all over the world and it could be happening near you right now. Accommodation close to your home might appear to be innocent looking suburban houses, but behind closed doors they could be hiding brothels or cannabis farms. themselves and their families. But their dreams can quickly turn into nightmares. People voluntarily pay an agent to transport them, often illegally, into another country. But the agents can be ruthless, neglecting their client’s human rights. Ali was smuggled from India inside a false ceiling on a bus. He had to lie flat for hours, unable to turn. He said: “The agents lied to us saying they’d let us out to breathe every two hours, but no one cared to do so. There was just one small hole near where I put my face to breathe. Eventually they took us out after 15 hours but one of us had died. The smugglers were ruthless. They just threw away the body.” Many people who come to Britain illegally soon discover the streets aren’t paved with gold and struggle to scrape an existence. They work illegally for little money labouring or in cannabis farms or sweatshops. Out of their income they have to pay for their needs and their families back home. Marek Effendowicz, the Head of Communications for IOM said: “There is a trap people fall into. They spend a lot of family money to get to Britain and then they find no matter how hard they work that they will never recover the money to pay off the debt.” Ben, an irregular worker said: “Some of us suffer from depression because of family pressures and here there’s the problem of finding work day after day. There’s so much tension that a number of people have lost their mental balance. Some have fallen prey to addictions. They can’t go back and they can’t live here properly.”
Another man reduced to living on the streets, said: “It was the wrong decision coming. I haven’t been successful here. Here no one cares about anyone else.” Employees of irregular workers sometimes report them to the police, so they don’t have to pay them. But all is not lost. IOM is there to help people return home when they are ready. It will help them with documentation and tickets to fly home as regular air passengers. Anyone who has had contact with the asylum system can also be given a special Relocation grant. Each member of a family will receive £500 cash at the airport before departure. IOM can also help with travel within a country, training and shortterm accommodation and can give Reintegration Assistance by buying equipment for anyone wanting to set up a business when they return home. IOM has helped 34,000 people return home to 146 countries since 1999. Josephine returned home to Jamaica after an asylum claim failed, with the help of IOM. She was able to get her daughters educated and set up a small grocery shop with reintegration assistance from IOM. She said: “Without IOM’s assistance it would have been very difficult for me. question that is often asked in Christian circles is “does God still work miracles today, or has the time for miracles ceased?” The answer, I believe is a categorical and unequivocal “yes”. Our God is still a God of miracles, who is still in the business of working signs, wonders and miracles to the glory of His name. As the Psalmist said “you are the God who performs miracles; you display your power among the peoples” (Psalm 77:v.14). In order to examine the subject it is important to clearly define what is meant by the term miracle. A miracle is defined as the suspension of the natural course of events. It is a supernatural, divine intervention by God in the affairs of man, through which God demonstrates His power and ability to affect the circumstances of life. For example, when a degenerative illness or a terminal disease attacks the human body, the natural course of events would be for that disease to progress, the person to deteriorate and eventually to die. However, when the Lord intervenes (e.g. through prayer) and touches that physical body with divine healing and the person lives longer or is restored, then the natural course of events has been suspended and we can give glory to God for the miracle that has taken place. In the Bible, the Hebrew word for a miracle is the word “pah-lah”. It describes something that is beyond human ability to grasp, to do, to achieve or to accomplish. It is often translated in our English Bibles as a marvel, a wonder or a supernatural 32 may/jun
By Dr Jerome Anekwe deed, as seen in Exodus 34: v.10 (Amp) “... before all your people I will do marvels (wonders, miracles) such as have not been wrought or created in all the earth or in any nation...”. The Bible records that Jesus performed many miracles during his ministry on earth (Acts 2:v.22) and so did many of the apostles such as Peter and John (Acts 3), Stephen (Acts 6: v.8), Philip (Acts 8:v.6) and Paul (Acts 19:v.11). It is also interesting to note Isaiah, prophesying about the Messiah to come stated one of his titles will be “Wonderful”- again coming from Hebrew word pah-lah (Isaiah 9:v.6). As we know that Jesus Christ is the same yesterday, today and forever then this gives us confidence as believers that our days of miracles are still upon us! I believe there is a lack of understanding in this area, which has caused many Christians to miss out on their God-given promises. Many are unsure whether God is willing or able to perform healings and miracles, while others feel they have to “qualify” by their own righteousness. Yet in Galatians 3:v.5 the Apostle Paul reminds us that “...He who supplies the Spirit to you and works miracles among you, does He do so on (the grounds of your doing) what the Law demands, or because of your believing in and adhering to and trusting in and relying on the message that you heard?” It was through this passion that God spoke to me to “go and teach my people my tv4life.com

ou are here in this world on purpose, for a purpose. You are not here by chance or by accident. The God who knows all things from eternity past, sent you to this planet for such a time as this, and positioned you in time to make a difference. Your life is the answer to somebody’s question, a solution to somebody’s problem. You are not just a statistic on the government computer – you are the deliberate design of God, a careful creation of the Almighty, an intentional invention of the God of all creation. Of the six and a half billion people on this planet, nobody has the exact same dental impression as yours. You are “unique,” “special,” “unequalled,” “unrivalled,” “chosen,” “peculiar,” “fearfully and wonderfully made”. That is why you should never try to be like someone else. When you try to be like someone else, you commit two crimes: First, you deprive the world of the real you. Second, you become a cheap imitation. So, why did God put you on this planet? To be a difference maker, a world changer. Whether you recognise it or not, you are a person of influence. Do you know that when you wiggle your finger, you affect the position of every atom in the universe? Now imagine what happens when you nod or shake your

head, when you smile or when you open your mouth to speak. The universe has been designed in such a way that every tiny movement affects the entire universe. Scientists call it “the butterfly effect”. When a butterfly flaps its wings in the south of France, it could set in motion, a series of environmental events which, months later could cause a monsoon in India. If a butterfly can do so much, now imagine what you – made in the image of God and after His likeness can do! Don’t ever doubt it – you carry immense power. Your Influence is irresistible; this is how Madiba Nelson Mandela put it: “Our deepest fear is not that we are inadequate. Our deepest fear is that we are powerful beyond measure”. Consider these two truths: When your life touches another life, potentially that life is changed. In fact, potentially both lives are changed. When one life touches another, potentially the whole world is changed. Let me tell you a story to illustrate my point, a true story. Have you ever heard of John Howard? Probably not. John Howard was an English man working near Pretoria in South Africa towards the end of the 19th century – then known as Transvaal. The date was 13th December 1899 – it was right in the middle

of the Boer Wars – the wars between the English and the Dutch in South Africa. A young man who was a journalist, a war correspondent for the Daily Telegraph had just escaped from the Boer Prisoner of War Camp. With the Boers in hot pursuit he ran to John Howard’s door, knocked and sought refuge. John Howard took this young man in, looked after him for a week and helped him escape back to Europe. Little did he know that this seemingly insignificant act of kindness would one day affect world history. This young journalist got back to England and published his story. The story was so gripping that newspapers around the world carried it and this young man was propelled into international fame and into British Politics. He later went on to become one of the most significant Prime Minister of Britain. You and I know him as Winston Churchill. What if John Howard had not been there to rescue Churchill? There would have been no Churchill to champion the victory of the allied forces in the 2nd World War; and Hitler would not have been defeated. You and I would probably be speaking German today. MeetJoyce Television minister and author Joyce Meyer leads 15 international conferences a year. events in an exclusive interview. How many people are employed in your ministry? We currently have 525 employees at our U.S. headquarters and also employ almost 300 additional people at 15 international offices in multiple regions around the world. How many viewers do you estimate watch your programmes? We are so blessed to be able to reach a potential audience of 3 billion people through our TV and radio broadcasts. Why is it important to hold conferences? Since the beginning, my passion has been about helping other people – however I can. Our conferences give me an opportunity to do just that by sharing the messages God puts on my heart with a more personal touch than what you may experience through the media programmes. We also use the footage recorded for the TV and radio broadcasts. How do you decide on a venue and duration of a conference? We first pray for God’s direction in what areas and locations we should look at to visit. We also try to focus on areas that are more centrally accessible to our partners and friends on our mailing list. 36 may/jun
Could you please outline what goes into planning a conference? It’s a process that begins about two years in advance. First we choose the location, then find a venue we know will work for the number of people we expect to attend. Once we’re sure the venue is available during a time that fits into our schedule, we begin what we call “pre-conference” planning. This involves covering all of the logistics, details and arrangements, like contracting hotels for people attending the conference, as well as our travel team, and booking flights and rental cars for staff while they’re there. We also create promotional and marketing materials for the conference, which may include ads, posters, billboards, e-blasts and direct mail cards that we send out weeks in advance. How many people does it take? We currently have eight full-time conference department staff and 70 travel team members, many of who are contract employees. We then recruit around 200 local volunteers to help us at each event. We’re always really blessed by the people who give their time and energy to help. It’s definitely a team effort and we couldn’t do it without them! Does the offering always cover the cost of the conference? No, it does not. While giving through tv4life.com
offerings is a part of the meetings, it’s not the focus of what we hope to accomplish. Our main purpose is to help people through teaching God’s Word, praying for them, and worshiping God together. It’s always encouraging how people are so generous with their offerings, and I want to encourage them to give because God’s Word teaches that we need to give – it’s what He calls us to do with our lives when we live for Him. You mentioned on a programme recently that you have a prayer team that goes ahead of you to a conference. Could you expand on what is involved and why? We have prayer teams at our headquarters who pray every week for the conferences – both in advance and while they are happening. Prayer opens the door for God to work, so we take it seriously and make sure it lays the foundation for anything and everything we do. How far ahead of you appearing on a platform does your team set up? Usually, the travel team arrives at the venue about a day and a half before the first meeting starts. How do you prepare for a conference yourself? Quite simply, with a lot of prayer and time studying God’s Word. My desire is

I also think about what’s going on in my life. A lot of times if I’m dealing with something personally, God will show me that it’s not just for me, but I need to share it because others are dealing with that same issue too. How do you choose what to wear? I wear what I like and feel good in. There are just a few things our broadcast team asks me to avoid, like things that jingle or make distracting noises. And I don’t wear white. These things could interfere with the quality of the recordings for the broadcasts. How often do you change the set for the platform? We update or change the set about every two to three years. It’s good to keep the look fresh and current. How do you choose the worship team, etc? We continually pray for God to give us the right relationships with the people and ministries He has chosen to partner with us. What does a conference entail for someone who attends? Our conferences are an awesome experience and a great time to get together with other believers to worship God, to pray, and to hear Bible-based
teaching that can really help you grow in your relationship with God and learn about what He has planned for your life. God’s presence is always really special during these times. How do you feel during a conference? Energized! After all these years, it’s still amazing to me that even if I’m feeling tired or sick, once I step onto the platform and begin speaking what God has put on my heart, I feel His presence, anointing and power working through me. How do you keep topped up spiritually? My relationship with God is the most important thing in my life – always! He’s the source of my strength, love, joy, wisdom … everything I need. So, I prioritize by having time with Him and spending time in the Word.
fixing my hair, but when we’re on the road I basically do it myself. How long does it take for you to recuperate after a conference? I usually bounce back within a day or two – by God’s grace. There was a time when it was harder for me because I didn’t exercise or eat as well as I do now. At one point, God spoke to my heart that I needed to take better care of myself if I wanted to feel good and really enjoy the rest of my journey on this earth. So I started exercising and eating better, and now I do feel good.
What is it like living out of a suitcase for much of the time? It’s a God-given privilege for me to be able to travel and share the Gospel, but it’s not a glamorous life. If I pause and let myself think about it, I would get weary of it.
Your husband and your children are involved in your ministry. How does this help? Dave and I are so blessed that our children and their spouses believe in what we do and have chosen to be part of it. It’s not always been easy being family and working together, but God has actually brought healing and strengthened our relationships through it. The support they give has relieved me of a lot of the day-to-day responsibilities of running the offices, which allows me to better focus on doing what God’s called me to do.

W
hen Steve Anderson’s motherin-law developed cancer, his wife flew out to see her. Steve really wanted to go too, but they couldn’t afford two tickets. Steve prayed and amazingly a local businessman called Joe offered him a seat in a twoseater airplane. On the journey they encountered thick fog and needed to get in contact with the air-traffic controller who recommended they turn back. But fuel was low, so Steve prayed again. A voice came back through the radio, “Come in on emergency landing.” Then as they descended the radio voiced screamed, “Pull it up! Pull it up!” Through a break in the fog they saw that instead of approaching the airport they were over a busy highway and had narrowly missed an overpass! The voice continued, “Listen to me and I’ll get you down,” and calmly issued instructions until they landed.

Safely on the ground Joe picked up the radio and told the tower, “We’d never have made it without you. Thanks, you saved our lives.” The controller replied, “What are you talking about? We lost contact with you right after we told you to turn back!” So, if the controller didn’t guide them in, who did? The Psalmist wrote, “God will command his angels to protect you wherever you go” (Psalm 91:11 CEV). Steve Anderson says, “I believe God sent an angel to bring us in safely.” And He’ll do the same for you!

Vicar of Baghdad Anglican Chaplain to Iraq, Andrew White’s book “The Vicar Of Baghdad” is an inspiring read. This man of faith risks his life to travel to church in an armourplated car, escorted by 25 members of the Iraqi Army and he has seen 98 members of his congregation murdered last year. Here is an excerpt from his book.
T
he following is an account I wrote for my supporters of a recent Sunday in Baghdad. It shows the true nature of my work in Iraq. It also shows the true nature of God, our rock and salvation. Do you ever have days when you know that God’s glory is going to come? Well. Today was one of those days. I started on Saturday night with my security team. “Tomorrow is a God day, not a political day.” “Yes, sir” was the reply. Early in the morning we made our way to the Prime Minister’s offices. Not for politics but for God. It has been decided that it is far too dangerous for me to go to St George’s, so we had the service in the Prime Minister’s lecture theatre at his invitation. It took the congregation over two hours to enter because of security…. I chose as my text just three words from one of the letters of John: “God is love.” We had a wonderful service: great singing, OK preaching and tears… What was clear was that it is only the love of Jesus that sustains these wonderful people at such difficult times… We then had Holy Communion and as we broke bread God’s glory came. I cannot explain why or what happened, but our Lord was there in power. We then baptized a young child of 17 days old, called Alexandria. Once again there was great joy, joy that God loved this little girl and us. From the Prime Minister’s office we
went at full speed to the Palace for the service there. As we arrived, mortar (bombs) came over. The soldiers made us dive for cover and for a short while nobody was allowed into the Palace. I was actually quite grateful for this, because I was late… Here I am doing a series on people in the Bible who dwelt in Iraq. Today it was the turn of Ezekiel. I spoke of the glory that he saw, I spoke of God’s glory that I have seen here, glory like no other place. I told people to expect to see God’s glory here. I read them part of a recent e-mail from Brett, Alyssa and Emily of All Nations Church in Charlotte, North Carolina. People saw that if these young people can experience the glory of God, surely they could as well. As I celebrated Holy Communion, God’s glory came again. As I looked down from the altar I could see military officers, with their guns beside them, in tears. Tough men with big tears. After the service, person after person came and said they had seen God’s glory in the service. They stayed by me, and we had lunch together and talked more of the glory of God… In the evening (session of our Alpha course,) we dealt with the subject of how we can be sure of our faith. I spoke from 2 Cor 5. Once again I read out the e-mail from the girls of All Nations Church as a perfect example of being able to experience God’s love. Once again this was a truly glorious session when the Lord was very present. Literally everybody said it was amazing… So, this was a Sunday in Baghdad, a tv4life.com
day when God’s glory again broke forth. I know more than ever that all things are in the hands of God and he decides. He is indeed our rock and salvation. As I left my security team tonight, they said, “Today was very different. Something happened to us!” When we meet with God, we see not only his glory; we see that He is unmoving, unchanging and all-sustaining. Without Him there is no hope and no future… This is my God, this is my rock, which enables me to continue the work of the Almighty come what may. All may change but my God is the same yesterday, today and forever: I say again: He is my rock, my strength, my salvation and my fortress in times of trouble. od has spoken to me these words. He has spoken them and I want you to receive it in your life. It’s time for you to have an above and beyond life. These are the four principles that God told me would position you to receive the above and beyond in every area of your life. 1) Listening or paying close attention to what the Holy Spirit has said. 2) Making what He said the final authority. 3) Being obedient to it in every way we possibly can. 4) Sowing and continuing to sow toward the fulfillment of it. If the Word God speaks is true, and we know it is, then if you do what God says, you can expect to see things change in your favour. Something is going to change. Your circumstances are going to change. God is working on something good for you and when it manifests, it is going to be so awesome that you will hardly remember what you went through before it came. It will excessively surpass all comparisons. In other words, whatever your idea of best was prior to this, get ready. This one will be beyond comparison if you’ll dare believe God. That’s the above and beyond that God’s talking about. 2 Corinthians 4:17, “These hard times are small potatoes compared to the coming good times.” Verse 18, “There’s far more here than meets the eye.” God’s working on something. God’s working on restoring your finances. God’s working on restoring your marriage. God’s working on restoring your family. In other words, you simply must not allow what you see – your not so good circumstances – to dictate what you choose to believe. Choose to believe what the Word says, and the Word says those not so good circumstances are changing. God wants to take you to the above and beyond. That means even though it’s God’s will, it may not happen for everybody. Why is that? Because not everybody will do what God says. To have the above and beyond, you must be willing to do the above and beyond. If you’re ever going to have the above and beyond in your life, then your attitude can no longer be, “What’s the least I have to do?” The person who experiences the above and tv4life.com
beyond kind of life, is the person who does the above and beyond. If you want to receive the above and beyond, you must begin: 1) Thinking bigger; 2) Dreaming bigger; 3) Believing bigger; 4) Sowing bigger; 5) Standing longer; 6) Persevering longer; Did you notice the words bigger and longer? Think bigger; dream bigger; believe bigger; sow bigger than the average Christian. Stand longer and persevere longer than the average Christian. When you do, you’re going to get above and beyond results! Anybody can live a normal life. Anybody can be average. But it takes courage to be an above and beyond Christian. To be frank, many Christians are not willing to do what it takes to go above and beyond. But for those who are, they will see God move in their lives like never before. The Apostle Paul was one of those guys who were willing to do more and to go further. He was the “extra mile” kind of guy. When it came to praying, when everybody else thought, let’s pray a bit, Paul said: “Pray without ceasing.” Philippians 3:13-14: “Brethren I count not myself to have apprehended, but this one thing I do. Forgetting which things are behind, reaching forth unto things which are before. I press toward the mark for the prize of the high calling of God in Christ Jesus.” I want you to get “reaching forth” and “pressing toward”. That’s the mindset of the above and beyond kind of Christian. They’re constantly reaching for bigger and pressing toward it with everything that’s in them. God is calling you to do the above and beyond so that he can bless you with an above and beyond life. Will you receive it? Will you act on it? I believe you will and, together, we will experience God and His faithfulness like we’ve never experienced it before. t’s very powerful when a lot of people come together to worship.” These are the views of Tim Jupp, who is organising of TheBigChurchDayOut with his full-time team. As the keyboard player with the internationally acclaimed band Delirious?, which broke up last November, he should know. The inaugural BigChurchDayOut event in May last year proved such a resounding success - with a crowd of 15,000 people and thousands turned away at the gates – that this year’s event is being repeated on three days at two venues. It is taking place at Stanford Hall, Leicestershire, on Saturday May 29th and at Wiston House, West Sussex, on Sunday May 30th and Bank Holiday Monday May 31st. Tim said: “We are hoping that some of the bigger London churches will want to support this year’s event. For a lot of them, it’s not so much seeing the artists performing as it is buying into the vision of going as a church to a big event. Loads of churches came on mass in 2009 because they wanted to be part of a day of fellowship.” After the success of the 2009 event, the owner of Stanford Hall invited Tim to organise the event there. “I was really excited,” said Tim, who had been given a prophecy that something like this would happen. “People travelled from all over the UK to attend the first
event, so it felt like the right thing to hold it in Leicestershire as well. “We want to bring some of the best artists in the world to perform, so it is more easily done when we can bring them to a three day family event.” Each day the line-up includes: Hillsong United, Switchfoot, Toby Mac (DC Talk), Israel Houghton, Tim Hughes (Worship Central), Brenton Brown, Graham Kendrick, Lou Fellingham, Tom and Olly, LZ7, The Kings Chamber Orchestra, Suart Pendred and Trent. There will be two separate production teams and only the artists will move, so there will be no delay in being ready for the gates opening late morning. “I am so thrilled because so often these days we hear reports that that church is dying. I don’t think it is and this is chance to show that the church is alive and well. It’s also very evangelistic and an opportunity to bring non-Christian friends to a laid back event, despite it being a big one.” added Tim. The programme incorporates something for all ages, including: a kids stage and activities, classical music programme, acoustic stage and tea tent and a worship arena. Pure And Simple Singer/songwriter Cathy Burton has led the worship at many major Christian Events. She has just brought out her fourth album “Source Of Every Hour” and took time out from her tour to speak to TV4Life. Can you give us a brief testimony? I became a Christian at around 14-years-old, at a play where the gospel message was presented through music, dance and drama. Prior to that, my parents had sent me to Sunday school and I had learnt loads of bible stories/songs through my childhood. At the play, everything fell into place and I wanted to follow Jesus. It was a really exciting time. I went through the usual teenage struggles, but having become a Christian I felt I had purpose, which has continued throughout my life. What does the Lord mean to you? As a Christian, I would say that Jesus is the reason to be alive. Although I don’t understand a lot of things in the world, knowing God, knowing truths of the bible and salvation brings sense and comfort to me. How has He transformed you? In many ways, and he continues to do so everyday. He’s brought me through highs and lows and I would say that in the lows, He’s taught me to trust Him more. He teaches me that it’s not all about me, more and more, everyday! How did you become a musician? I started piano when I was aged five and guitar at eight. I’ve just continued from there and started writing songs around aged 11. I’ve continued to play/sing and pushed doors and been given opportunities. I’ve made the most of it all and I’m very happy to have been able to make four albums now. I know it’s a real blessing. What does worship mean to you? Worship means to love God in how I think, how I act, how I love, how I serve, how I spend my money, how I spend my time, how I write. I know I fall short, but it’s what I’m living for. When we gather together as Christians at church – which I believe is 46 may/jun
essential, to express worship in song is inspiring and uplifting.
I can improve them. I write songs / little tags from week to week for church also.
What inspires you? People that love people.
Any new albums/books/tours in the pipeline? My new album “Source of Every Hour” is just out.
How do you write songs/music? I usually come up with an idea spontaneously and then I’ll spend a long time crafting the idea. What is your aim with your songs/music? With this new album, the songs have been written with my church in mind. I’ve tried to write songs to reflect where we are at, also I’ve been taking time to try and hear what God’s saying to us and written into that. I’ve also always written songs that connect to me directly as well as aiming to reach others. That’s always been the case with my earlier albums. I just write songs from the heart, life and experience. Has your style changed? If so, how? Musically, I don’t think so, I think this album sounds like me, if that makes sense! Lyrically I’ve written in a different style in order for church to sing along, as opposed to just listen and absorb. However, I think the album is sonically good to listen to. I’m hoping people will enjoy these songs in their car stereo as well as on a Sunday morning! Do you have any advice for a new Christian musician? I would say it’s all about the song and songwriting – to write, re-write and try songs out. Don’t think they are finished just because you can’t think of anything else. Let songs breathe and develop – that’s what I learn more and more. What are you now working on? I’ve just finished my new album. I’m also just tidying up some songs that I started during the writing of the album to see if tv4life.com
What are the highs and lows of your career? The highs are getting feedback emails/ cards about how my music has been a vehicle for God to do His stuff. The lows, well organising and juggling family/ work/church and the frustration that can bring! www.cathyburton.co.uk

Amazing Healing At Alpha Reader Dom Turner was dramatically healed recently at St John’s Church, Colchester. Here is his story in his own words.
W
hen my back packed up eight-years-ago I didn’t expect the pain to last. After all, it wasn’t the first time: when I was a child the doctor said it was ‘”growing pains’”. This time, though, the agony didn’t go away. I visited the doctor and was given some painkillers, and a few weeks later ended up in hospital because I couldn’t feel my legs. It was around then that I started walking with a crutch. The doctors did some tests and eventually discovered there was a major problem in the way my spine was linked to my pelvis. I asked if there was anything they could do. The answer was simply “pain

management’” there was little, if any hope of it ever getting better. So I managed as well as I could, always aware of the severe and constant pain. I learned to live within my limits, and although I hated it at least it meant I could do some of the things I wanted to. I couldn’t dig the garden, or run around with my kids, or go for long walks, or even go into town on my own for fear of my back locking up and freezing me to the spot; but I could have some mobility. I could drive, I could smile when people said: “how are you?” and reply, “fine, thanks..” Then, at an Alpha evening with the theme ”does God heal today?”, my back pain was healed. As I was prayed for by an Alpha leader, I felt the muscles that had atrophied years ago coming back to life, and the hurt seemed to simply fall away. When it happened I was surrounded by about 30 other people, and my initial reaction was “something feels wrong.” I’d spent nearly eight years living with the pain, and it had become the “background noise” of my life. I’d forgotten what it felt like to be out of pain. I wanted to jump up and down on the spot, but I was surrounded by other people and knew that jumping was way outside my limits. So I quietly grabbed Debbie, my wife, and we went into a side area of the church to talk. That’s when I did jump up and down, and bent to touch my toes, and that’s the room I left my crutch in when I went outside to run about. It felt so good to run, although I lost my breath

in seconds! It’s been great since, and my life has changed amazingly because of it. There are the obvious things, of course: I can bend down and play with my two little children or run about with them; I can sit in a chair without having to move constantly; I can sleep without waking every hour or so in pain; I can work without having to stop regularly for a rest; I can go for long walks by myself. There are dozens of little things too: I can push a shopping trolley with both hands and steer it properly; I can bend to tie my shoelaces without being in agony; I can look inside low cupboards without having to get a better angle from the other side of the kitchen first. The list goes on and on, and the impact that God’s loving healing has had on me and my family is beyond description. It’s amazing!
Sinner’s Prayer Lord Jesus, I want to know you personally. I’m sorry for going my own way. Thank you for dying on the cross to forgive my sin. Please come and take first place in my life and make me the person you created me to be. Amen.

Tracing The Rainbow
Bereavement is something we will all come across at some time or another. Here TV4Life reader Ali Hull explains why she felt led to write a book about it.

urely Christians don’t grieve?” I was once asked, during a radio interview. The interviewer was a Christian – but I didn’t feel she knew her Bible very well. “Mourn with those who mourn” it says, not “Tell them to pull themselves together – they shouldn’t be mourning at all.” Christians grieve. I went through a time of mourning when the reunion with the son I had given up for adoption didn’t turn out as I had hoped. After a few meetings, he didn’t want to know, and it was to be years before we met up again. It felt like life had stopped and started again, and it hurt in a way that was physical but didn’t respond to painkillers. I spent a lot of time talking to God about how I felt, and was grateful for Him – and other people – who were simply there. Talking to others who had had much greater losses, I found a huge lack of understanding about grief, how it affects people and what can make it worse. I decided to write a book on loss, talking to people who had had losses and asking them what made those losses worse – and what helped, if anything. Pablo Martinez, a Christian Spanish psychiatrist and a very gentle man, with great wisdom, wrote about grief, I did the interviews, and the book, “Tracing the Rainbow”, was born. And one bereaved wife came to a big conference and stood up and said “This book was the greatest help to me after my husband died.” That is why we wrote it. It is for everyone who has been bereaved or is going to be bereaved, or who knows someone

It includes interviews with two couples who lost adult sons, a couple who lost two babies, one after the other– and also a divorced man and a divorced woman, well-known speaker Jennifer Rees Larcombe. When I put the divorced people in the book, someone said to me “People have choice in divorce, they do not have choice in bereavement.” But I discovered that was not true. Martin Ryder, the divorced man, said to his wife, “I will sleep in the garage if that is what it takes for you to stay.” She still left him. Marriages end because just one partner wants to leave, and there is nothing that can be done to stop them. What is the book about? It tells people what they can do to help – and often all it takes is to be there. There are no magic words, no formulae. We can simply make

sure that the bereaved person does not go through their bereavement entirely alone. We can listen, and listen, and listen, often over and over again to the same thing. We can let them cry, we can hug them, we can send them flowers, we can cry with them, we can look at the photos and hear the bittersweet memories, we can go through the whole experience with them. Bereavement will hurt. But surely that is what Jesus modelled for us – He came to earth as a human and suffered what we suffer. Being there for the bereaved is just part of following Him. Every Drop Counts TV4Life Appeal To Raise Money To Bring Water To Kenyans When you next turn the tap on to get a glass of water, remember how blessed you are. Not everyone in the world is as fortunate as people in the UK. Many have to walk miles to fetch clean water. Now, TV4Life is supporting a Kenyan woman’s appeal to raise funds for a well in her mother’s village. Last year, Kenya suffered a severe drought, which killed crops and animals. People were starving as the cost of food rose and resorted to eating unripe mangoes and meat cut from a donkey killed in a road accident. Mwikali Kavivya, 32, (who was mentioned in our May/ June ‘09 issue of TV4Life) has been given a quote of £2,300 to drill a borehole. “I am raising money to dig a borehole for my mum’s village, Kakuli,” she said. “She and the other villagers have to walk a mile to fetch water from the river every day during the rainy season. In the dry season, they have to walk eight miles to the nearest borehole. They have to queue, sometimes all day. They are only allowed to fetch 80 litres of water at a time, which has to be used sparingly.” A committed Christian, Mwikali (who works in Essex) has already raised £850 towards the appeal by running a Rotary Club half marathon in Brentwood (above). The borehole needs to be dug in the dry season between July and September, so we need to act quickly. Financial Miracles

One of the ways I demonstrate to Christians at my conferences that God is a miracle working God in the area of our finances is to ask the following questions:
1. How many people have had a miracle in their body? 2. How many people have had a miracle in their marriage? 3. How many people have had a miracle in their career or business? The responses to these questions are that a small number of people will raise their hands to testify of a healing from cancer, deafness, a marital restoration or change of job. We thank God that he is a miracle working God and that he is still healing his people today in their bodies and relationships. However, when I pose the question, “How many have received a miracle in their finances?” almost every hand in the congregation goes up! This shows us that God is so interested in our finances and is working miracles for us more in our dealings with money than in any other area of our lives. In the Bible there are approx 500 Scriptures on prayer and the same again on faith, but there are over 2340 Scriptures on finances. There are 82 principles relating to finances in the book of proverbs, which was written by Solomon, the richest person who ever lived. Jesus spoke more about finances than He did on heaven and hell and over 60% of the parables of Christ relate to the following: inheritance, debt, wages, stewardship, and greed. God is so concerned about you that he devoted so many Scriptures to help guide us and provide the wisdom we need to provoke financial miracles in our lives.
