I always find the articles in TV4Life interesting and informative.

My only concern was the article written by Prophetess Angela Johnson who in her article stated in the July/August issue: “Do not forget, the expected year for the Lord’s return is 2017, “the hour, day and month no one knows but it shall be revealed in its time”.” This is not an accurate scriptural quote and because the Bible clearly says, “no man knows the hour when the Lord will return,” meaning, the day, week, neither month not year, I wonder if you could bring correction to this in your next publication as it is quite a misleading quote from the Bible.

John 16:13 says, the Holy Spirit will tell you things to come.

God told Abraham that He will deliver his children from the Egyptians after four hundred years; Genesis 15: 12-14. When the time came, Exodus 12: 40-41; God raised Moses who led Israel out of Egypt. Read Exodus 12: 2-6, Exodus 13: 4 also verse 50-51.

The same God has told me to tell the church and the world at large the year that the Lord Jesus Christ is coming back (2017), whether you want to accept it or not is entirely up to you. The very word I have prophesied will judge the hypocrites on the last day.

Giving Your Best This Christmas

ere we are again, approaching the end of another year.

Christmas – the most joyful season of the year –hovers round the corner. There’s a lot of goodwill in the air. People who ordinarily couldn’t care less are all of a sudden more receptive and more friendly.

Neighbours who haven’t said hello all year round are suddenly reaching out, exchanging cards and “Merry Christmas!” greetings. Carols on street corners and in shops, Santa hats and suits, tinsel and lights…truly ‘tis the season to be jolly.

It is also the season for giving. In all likelihood, your preoccupation over the next few days will be “what shall I get for so and so and such and such?” The frenzy builds up and many times does not end until very late on Christmas Eve. Our high streets and shopping malls soon become pilgrimage centres as teeming masses rush about in the frantic quest for the ultimate gift. It all builds up like fever, mounting to a crescendo and exploding in total exhaustion by Christmas morning.

The Father’s Love Before you get sucked into the black hole again this year, stop and ask yourself what this is about. Why? Why do we even give gifts at Christmas? And why do we give the particular gifts to the particular people that we do? I know you have the simple answer to that – the obvious one.

But that’s not what I’m asking for today. I want the difficult, not so obvious answer, the one that painfully exposes the deepest recesses of our hearts and lays bare our most profound motives.

Are we all caught in a meaningless web of tradition, from which most want to break free, but on which no one is brave enough to call time? Oh, please do not misunderstand me. I believe in giving and receiving gifts. I love giving and receiving gifts. I know that we give at Christmas because God gave us the Gift of His Son on the first Christmas. I know we give because we love, and we love because God first loved us. But that’s exactly where my problem begins!

If we give at Christmas in emulation of our Father’s ultimate expression of His love, shouldn’t we do it how He did it?

You ask “how?” Thank you; I was hoping you would! Okay work with me here – let’s go back to basics. Let’s read from John 3:16: “For God so loved the world that He gave His only begotten Son, that whoever believes in Him should not perish but have everlasting life.”

Am I asking you to stop giving gifts to people you love at Christmas? No. But I’m asking you to consider another way.

Consider God’s way. When God gave on the first Christmas, he gave Himself.

And He gave to a world that could never reciprocate His love or gift. Why don’t you consider doing the same? Beyond

the material gifts, what will you consider giving yourself? And will you include on your list this year, people who can’t afford to give back to you? In fact, will you put them at the top of the list?

Perhaps you could reach out to the groucp in your neighbourhood or the tramp in your town centre. Perhaps you could bake a cake and take it to the old lady down the road. Perhaps you could invite someone over, who would probably spend Christmas alone.

This Christmas, our faith is not going to be measured by how many carols we sing or how many candles we light or how gorgeous our Christmas decorations are. Our faith will not be measured by the size of our Christmas turkey, or how lavish our Christmas dinner is. In heaven’s economy, our faith this Christmas will be recorded on the basis of how much we will make a difference in the lives of those who could never pay us back. So get cracking! You don’t have a lot of time – if you want something to get into a frenzy about, it should be this.

hristmas, the very word evokes a myriad of feelings and emotions among Christians and non-Christians alike. Anything from outright rejection because of its commercialism and pagan symbolism, to simple joy over an event which took place around 2000 years ago in a village six miles south of Jerusalem.

What we celebrate is an event, not a date. The fact that the world has chosen to overlay this with Christmas trees, sleighs and men in red suits with fake beards, should not deter us from celebrating the occasion, when, through the total submission of a young woman to the will of God (Luke 1:38), God was able to demonstrate His love for us by sending His Son (John 3:16) and introducing Him into the world as a helpless, dependent baby (Luke 2:7).

through his sinless life (John 14:30; 1 Peter 2:21-22) and atoning death (Romans 5:11), remove the sin of the whole world (1 John 2:2) and open the way for every man, woman and child to come into eternal communion and fellowship with God, (eternal life) (John 17:3).

The responsibility for the survival and upbringing of this baby, was placed firmly in the hands of a newly married couple, Mary and Joseph, who had just completed a tiring 70 mile trek on foot from Nazareth to Bethlehem. (There is no mention of a donkey in the biblical account!)

Mary was in the final stages of pregnancy when they left Nazareth (Luke 2:4,5) and their problems were compounded when they arrived in Bethlehem and found the local inn was full. The details in the biblical account are sparse, but if the earliest Christian traditions are to be believed,

the Word finally became flesh (John 1:14) in an obscure cave in the vicinity of Bethlehem. Such were the humble earthly beginnings of the King of kings and Lord of lords (1 Timothy 6:14-15 34)!

However, God had declared hundreds of years beforehand through his prophets, that he would send his Son to be born of a virgin (Isaiah 7:14; Matthew 1:23,25; Luke 1 34) in this obscure little village (Micah 5.2). For those prophecies to come to pass, certain things had to happen. There had to be a young virgin who was willing to take on the responsibility of bringing to birth and rearing God’s Son. The woman had to be prepared to risk, at best, public disgrace, and at worst (and this is what Mary had to face), the loss of her betrothed husband (Matthew 1:19) and the possibility of death by stoning (Deuteronomy 22:23-24). She also had to be a godly woman who would have faith to believe the angel’s message that God himself would impregnate her and that she would become the mother of His Son (Luke 1:31, 34, 35). She would have to be a woman of such character that God would be willing to entrust the welfare of his Son to her for the duration of his childhood, and of course, her betrothed husband would have to be a man of similar uprightness of character and faith in God. What faith it must have taken for the Father to place Jesus into the hands of this unregenerate young woman and her husband, living in the midst of a fallen world!

Mary herself had previously identified one of the main issues, “How shall this be, seeing I know not a man?” (Luke 1:34). Before there is a birth there must be a conception and for there to be a conception, there must be a seed.

Normally the man supplies the seed, but in this case God Himself supplied it.

The seed was the Word of God (1 Peter 1:23). The Word became flesh (John 1:14) in Mary’s womb and in accordance with God’s laws, it brought forth after its own kind. Mary brought forth Jesus, the Word of God. It was the need to create the seed

with which to impregnate Mary, that was responsible, at least in part, for the long delay between the day on which Adam sinned and the day on which Jesus was conceived. We’ll look at this.

When God created man he gave him dominion over the earth (Genesis 1:2628; 23. Psalms 8:4-8, 115:16) and having divested himself of his authority, after the fall God no longer had direct control over man’s affairs. That being the case, for the Word of God to have authority in the earth, the Word had to be spoken by man. This meant that God had to find men who would hear His voice in their hearts and then speak His Word through their mouths. No one man was capable of receiving all the revelation that God needed to give about the coming of his Son, and in practice, it took thousands of years for God to find enough men to speak forth everything that needed to be spoken to create the seed. Each word spoken by God through the mouths of men, was like a small part of the spiritual DNA needed to create Jesus. When all the individual words had been spoken and collected together by God, the seed was complete, and when the fullness of time had come (Galatians 4:4), God sent the angel Gabriel to Mary to announce that she was the one chosen to provide the physical body for Jesus. Mary’s response was perfect. “Be it unto me according to thy word” (Luke 1:38). The Holy Spirit then took all the inspired words spoken about Jesus throughout history and implanted them in her womb, providing the sperm by which Jesus was conceived.

Let’s return now, to Bethlehem, where Mary and Joseph and their baby were spending their first night together as a family. There was no hospital aftercare for Mary and no beautifully decorated crib for Jesus, Mary had wrapped him tightly in swaddling clothes, and there he was, lying in a place where animals fed (Luke 2:12). From a human standpoint, the circumstances surrounding his birth were horrendous. Which woman would want to walk 70 miles, heavily pregnant, tv4life.com

find herself without accommodation and then far from home, go into labour and give birth. Which husband would wish this upon his wife, and yet amidst these terrible conditions, the greatest miracle of all took place. God became a baby. The Saviour, the long promised, long awaited, Christ was finally born! (Luke 2:7).

A Truly Christ I

am not ashamed to say that I like and enjoy Christmas. Not only can it be a great time for Christian families to come together in love, but it is also a wonderful opportunity for God to do something fresh in the lives of those who believe in Him! The fact that the world has little idea of the true meaning of Christmas and has used it as an opportunity for financial commercialism, should not be allowed to rob those who love the Lord from enjoying this triumphant festival.

The date is not of great significance, but the fact that God became man in Jesus Christ is of eternal significance.

Without the incarnation we could not have received the revelation of God’s Kingdom that Jesus brought; there would have been no cross or resurrection, and therefore no salvation for mankind. The whole drama of God’s saving work begins with this amazing truth: God sent His Son into the world, born of a virgin, His human mother, but conceived by the Holy Spirit, thus enabling Him to be both fully man and yet fully God. This is a wonderful truth worth celebrating!

Christians do not need to imitate the world in the way they celebrate; but neither should they be deterred from rejoicing in this great truth. The apostle, Paul, expresses the wonder of this event when writing to the Philippians: “By nature He is God, but He did not hold onto His divine status of being equal in heaven with the Father. He was prepared to make Himself nothing, taking

the nature of a servant and becoming thoroughly human. He was a man in every respect, even though He retained His divinity. Even so, He humbled Himself to such an extent that He obeyed His Father’s will, that He should die the death of a criminal on the cross. Because of His obedience, God the Father has now exalted Him to the highest place in heaven, and has given Him the Name that is far superior to any other name.

Every knee in heaven, on earth and even in the underworld, will bow at the Name of Jesus. Every tongue will have to acknowledge that Jesus Christ is Lord, for this is the Father’s glorious will.”

Imagine, the One through whom the whole of creation was brought into being, was prepared to humble Himself and to enter into that creation as a vulnerable baby, and all for our sakes! This so amazes me, not only at Christmas but throughout the year! I want to rejoice in this event. I want to express my profound thankfulness to God. And, yes, I would like the whole world to rejoice with me in the true meaning of this event.

As a Christian I am deeply thankful that this same Jesus has been born in me. Every year I use Christmas as an occasion to thank the Lord for my new birth and to pray that others will experience that second birth. Because so many non-believers attend Christian events at this season, it is a wonderful opportunity to expect people to be born again on those occasions. I am thankful

for all those I have seen coming to faith in Jesus Christ at carol services and on Christmas morning because the gospel is proclaimed, using these as wonderful evangelistic opportunities.

At other times of the year many churches find it difficult to get unsaved people to Christian events. So Christmas is an opportunity not to be missed!

Just as Lent was originally a period of spiritual preparation for Easter, so Advent was a time of preparation for Epiphany, and later, Christmas. Today Christians can use this time in an appropriate way. I have always taught people to expect God to do a new thing in them every Christmas. Does it not verge on the hypocritical to complain about the world misusing Christmas, if we do not use this season in the right way ourselves?

God has given us His wonderful gift, His own Son. So this is certainly a good opportunity to give presents, again without becoming caught up in the world’s commercialisation of Christmas.

Above all, it is a good time to renew the gift of ourselves to Him, a fitting response to His wonderful Gift to us! Are we prepared to set time aside for Him, to meet with Him in a fresh way, just as the world devotes so much time to preparing for its festivities? Why should we complain that the world desecrates the meaning of Christmas, if we ourselves do not treat this as a holy occasion?

Christmas can provide the opportunity to bring families together. For some

this is a joyful experience, for others a painful one because of the reconciliation that is needed in those families. Such reconciliation is very much a work of the gospel. So family gatherings can be times of witnessing in loving and sensitive ways, and of seeing relationships restored.

There should be no lonely people in the church if we are loving and caring for one another in the way that Jesus teaches. Christmas time is, therefore, an opportunity for Christians to open their homes to any single people within the congregation, those without a family context. But holiness does not consist in merely looking after our own. Some believers use this as an opportunity to reach the homeless and the destitute. It goes without saying that meeting such needs should not be confined to a few days over the Christmas season; but it is then that some discover a love and compassion for others in need.

So this season of Christmas can be whatever we choose to make it. Instead of having a critical attitude to the world’s ignorance, we can use this as a time for fresh encounter with the Lord, when we allow Him to do new things in our hearts and lives!

In December among the three programmes showing, a Christmas special Big Sing will be aired.

This spectacular extravaganza comes from the Royal Albert Hall, where Aled Jones is joined on stage by special solo guests. A choir of one thousand voices leads a packed auditorium of Songs of Praise viewers in wellloved hymns and songs. They are accompanied by a large orchestra. s a small boy, Bishop Greg Davis watched his prostitute mother and stepfather take drugs and snort cocaine. He reckons he would have been dead on the streets of New York from a drug overdose by now, if his real dad had not come to find him when he was nineyears-old. His father took Bishop Greg to Detroit where his grandfather just happened to be the Pastor of Welcome Missionary Baptist Church.

He said: “When I was nine-and-a-halfyears-old, I was sitting in the back of the church when the power of God hit me.

What Does Christmas Mean To You? We have asked people who have featured in TV4Life magazine during 2009 to give us an answer to this question and they have come up with some interesting answers.

hristmas means many things to me – all of them good! My parents always did everything they could do to make it very special for my sister and me. I’ve so many wonderful memories of childhood Christmases.

Then, God brought me Carolyn and soon the girls came into our lives. My Christmas memories of them growing up always makes me smile, sometimes I even have to laugh out loud! We didn’t have just presents and food and kin coming by, we had skits and games and all the silliness two little girls can dream up! It’s been great and, now, we have our grandchildren. What a blessing they are – from two-years-old to 20. Our house gets a little fuller and the blessing gets a little bigger every year!

But…in the midst of all the memories, I’m sure you understand that the very best thing ever was discovering the Great Giver and the Perfect Gift. Meeting Him completely changed my life as I’m sure it’s changed yours. I’ve discovered over and over again during these last 40 years that there’s not a single area of my life that hasn’t been enriched by Him, including Christmas.

I think maybe the single greatest joy in my life is the joy of giving. I always liked to help people and give what I could. I just didn’t know until I surrendered my life to God that giving would become my “chief joy” and my message to the Church.

My girls tell me that my “love language” is gifts and I have to admit that learning to give and give well gives me greater satisfaction than almost anything else in my life. I’ve learned the value of small heart-felt gifts as well as those large, once-in-a-lifetime gifts. It’s the giving.

“

It’s the knowing you’ve blessed another person. It’s the knowing you’ve met a need. Sometimes, it’s just knowing your gift allowed you to be part of something much greater than yourself. But, each and every time, it’s the giving that’s the best.

As God taught me His Word, He’s taught me His kingdom principles on prosperity.

True prosperity is to be loved by God and His Son and to have them manifest themselves in your life (John 14:23). As He manifested Himself, He taught me how to be free from poverty, lack and want. He showed me that His definition of prosperity is the ability to use God’s power in order to meet the needs of humanity.

We are partners with God in carrying out His plan for the world (II Cor. 6:1).

Prosperity is governed by spiritual laws and I came to understand that prosperity was provided by our covenant with Him (Deut. 8:18). Then, He began to reveal the truths about tithing, giving to the poor, investing in the Gospel and giving as a praise to God. He brought me revelation about seedtime and harvest, and sowing in famine. He’s continued to reveal principles about significant seed and about walking in divine prosperity.

Year after year, He’s deepened my understanding of His heart and how, through His unselfish love for us, He could give even His own Son. He gave with joy so I too can give with joy. He loves “cheerful givers” (II Cor. 9:5-11) and, He receives my gifts with joy knowing they represent my heart – never a debt I owe – but a seed I sow.

Since He’s truly the Giver of “every good and perfect gift” and He lives in me, giving is easy. I’ve discovered that – with the heart of a giver – every day can be Christmas!” tv4life.com

George Verwer is the founder of the worldwide ministry of evangelism called Operation Mobilisation.

“Someone once said it’s better to light a candle than shout at the darkness and so rather than dwell on the negative things that happen like drunken parties....I prefer to give thanks and try to talk to more people about what Christmas is really about. It for me, is the easiest time of the year to spread the Word and talk about Jesus....and to give out good literature or DVDs about HIM.”

I really get upset when we as a nation don’t allow people to put up Christmas decorations in shopping malls to celebrate Christ’s birth in case it upsets people of other religions. But for me personally, Christmas is a great time to be with your family. There just is a kind of peace in the air and God does that to remind people it is a special time. It’s not just about presents.”

“Whether He was born on December 25th or not, matters not, as a family we celebrate the day He came at that time.

“We do not have a tree, each year, we make a nativity scene, with a manger and on Christmas eve we set it up in our living room and read the Christmas story by candlelight.

It creates an opportunity to share the love of God with all who visit our house during that time.”

Colin Urquhart is an international speaker. He has written over 40 books and is the Principal of Kingdom Faith Training College. He reaches thousands of people daily through his radio show, Faith for Today, on UCB Inspiration.

“I rejoice not only in the fact that Jesus became man but that He is born again in all believers.

Christmas is a great celebration of new birth, not just of Jesus’ birth.”

Canon Andrew White is known as the Vicar of Baghdad. His life is at risk so he travels to church in an armourplated car and many of his congregation have been kidnapped and killed. He has written a book about his work.

“In Iraq the really big feast is Easter.

I told my young son once that Easter was the most important festival. He looked at me and said, “Daddy you’re wrong, because if Christmas had not happened there would be no Easter.”

I think he may be right. For us in Iraq, Christmas is simply called the Birthday of the Anointed One. So it is, how ever awful the attrocities are around, we celebrate the birthday of the Anointed One who always loves us and cares for us, even in the midst of disaster.”

Rosemary Conley is a diet and fitness guru who is a born-again Christian.

“It’s a time of special celebration and remembering the birth of our Lord, and a time to see all the family. I love decorating the house for Christmas and the whole festive thing – giving presents, sending cards and cooking for lots of people.”

Churches & Charities Respond To Natural Disasters

Children and adults are in desperate need after a series of natural disasters hit some of the poorest communities in the world.

Hundreds of people have been killed and millions left homeless after a tsunami, a cyclone and earthquakes struck Sumatra, Vietnam, the Philippines and Samoa. Floods also hit India and Bangladesh.

Christian Aid, Operation Mobilisation, Save The Children and Oxfam quickly responded with emergency aid, but more funds are needed.

Two earthquakes off the coast of Sumatra affected 2.5million people and left at least 551 dead. Hospitals, schools and thousands of buildings were damaged.

More than 3 million people have been affected by Cyclone Ketsana in Vietnam. At

Embryo Research Stops

least 163 people died and 150,000 people had to flee their homes.

People in Manila, the Philippines, were in desperate need of food, clean water and shelter after it experienced the heaviest rainfall since 1967. It left 311 people dead and 380,000 people living in temporary shelters.

An earthquake measuring 8.3 magnitude struck Samoa killing 129 people and 3,000 people fled their homes. Then a separate 7.9 magnitude earthquake struck a different fault line off the Indonesian island of Sumatra killing at least 75 people.

Jan Cocking, Oxfam’s Humanitarian Director said: “We are pulling together a significant aid effort.”

In India 12.5 million people were affected by devastating floods. Christian Aid has sent an initial £100,000 to help partners give out food, clean water and basic sanitation facilities, shelters and basic essentials.

Roman Catholic and Protestant churches have been offering special prayers for the victims and members have been helping to raise funds for emergency aid.

UK scientists have abandoned plans involving controversial creation of animalhuman “hybrid” embryos after funding has dried up.

Three research projects have been refused funding in Britain and Professor Justin St John of Warwick University (pictured), one of the three scientists licensed to carry out the work, has left for a job in Australia.

Christians raised concerns after news of the projects hit the headlines last year. The scientists had hoped to develop embryonic stem cells from cloned embryos created by fusing human cells with animal eggs.

The aim was to develop new treatments for incurable illnesses ranging from heart disease to Parkinson’s disease.

The Human Fertilisation and Embryology Bill was passed by Parliament last year and was supported by both Gordon Brown and David Cameron. It allowed creation of animal-human “admixed” embryos for stem-cell research.

Christians are being urged to support a campaign to erect Christmas posters at bus stops and join a massive carol singing event.

The “Christmas Starts With Christ” campaign comes not long after the atheists paid for posters on buses saying “There’s probably no God...”

ChurchAds.net, previously the Church Advertising Network, is asking

congregations to pay £105 to display a poster on their chosen bus shelter and hold a carol service on December 22 at the bus stop with the aim of holding “the country’s largest-ever carol singing event.”

One Caring Person Makes A Difference T

he heart’s cry of our world is not only for food, guns or money. Jesus heard that same cry… and wept over Jerusalem.

The Apostle Paul heard it and went immediately to Macedonia. It’s the cry of the lost….of people without hope. Perhaps in your prayers you’ve heard those cries too. And your heart has been burdened for those who cry, “Won’t someone help?

Won’t someone care?”

As I have been praying and seeking the Lord, I reached a place where I heard His voice and I want to share it with you. In Acts 15: 36-41, Barnabas was a caring person who made a difference. His name is interesting.

“And Joses, who was also named Barnabas by the apostles (which is translated Son of Encouragement), a Levite of the country of Cyprus, having land, sold it, and

brought the money and laid it at the apostles’ feet.” Acts 4:36-37.

When we first meet Barnabas, he was expressing his care in a tangible, concrete way. Barnabas did an unprecedented thing. He sold a field that belonged to him. People in that day simply did not sell property. It was kept in the family, passing from one generation to another. To sell property to help meet the needs of hurting people was absolutely incredible. The New Testament Christians never forgot it. Barnabas was not one who talked a lot about caring. He demonstrated it.

The caring of Barnabas made a tremendous difference in the life of Paul. After his Damascus Road experience, Paul wanted to be with the apostles in Jerusalem. Luke, in the Book of Acts, tells us “they were all afraid of him because they did not believe he was a disciple. But Barnabas took him, and brought him to the apostles and declared to them how on the road to Damascus he had seen the Lord who spoke to him and how in Damascus he had preached boldly in the name of Jesus.” Acts 9:27.

Barnabas’ care was expressed not only in a material gift: it was expressed in a risky investment of confidence in a very questionable character – a former persecutor and enemy of the church. He was willing to risk his reputation with the other disciples. While everyone else was ruled by suspicion and fear, Barnabas cared enough to let confidence and certainty shine through! Imagine his facial expression as he stood before the disciples and spoke on behalf of Paul. He was trying in every way he could to convince them that Saul of Tarsus was an authentic Christian.

of the church, he spent some lonely months. Estranged from his own family, convinced that the church did not trust him, he did not seem to have a friend in the world. One day, while working making a tent – a shadow moved across his workplace. He looked up to see the face of one caring person.

We do not have the words that Barnabas first spoke to Paul. In my imagination I see him reaching out to touch him saying, “Paul! I have looked for you for so long! I am so glad and I have found you. Come, we need you in Antioch.” Barnabas saw the potential in Paul and refused to give up on him.

“Barnabas went to Tarsus to look for Paul: and when he had found him he brought him to Antioch.” Acts 11:25.

Barnabas made also a life-changing difference in a young man named John Mark. We know that Mark deserted on the first missionary journey. Paul was ready to give up on him. Notice the test beginning in Acts 15:37. “Barnabas wanted to take with them John, called Mark. But Paul thought it best not to take with them one who had withdrawn from them in Pamphylia, and had not gone with them to the work. So there arose a sharp contention so that they separated from each other; Barnabas took Mark with him and sailed to Cyprus, but Paul chose Silas and departed, being commended by the brethren to the grace of the Lord.” The caring of Barnabas was tremendous.

Later Paul wrote, “Get Mark and bring him with you.” Tim. 4:11.

The quitter and coward had been transformed by the persistent caring of the one unforgettable person. There is tremendous power in the caring of one person.

Thanksgiving From A Christian Perspective

he true story of what has come to be known as the “First Thanksgiving” is a little more complicated than the traditional story that has been passed down to us.

The Pilgrims who found themselves along the coast of New England in 1620 were woefully unprepared for their new land. They had brought with them wheat (from England) to plant, but found that the soil was too rocky for it to grow.

Being unfamiliar with the topography of the land and its wildlife, as winter set in, they were cold (living in dirt-covered shelters) and hungry. They needed help, and that help came in the form of a Wampanoag (Wam pa no ag) Indian named Squanto. Squanto (who spoke English) saw a need and “ministered” to it (and the Pilgrims) by living with them for several months and teaching them to survive by giving them deer meat and beaver skins; teaching them to cultivate corn and other vegetables, and building Indian-style houses. He also taught them what plants were poisonous and which could be used as medicine, amongst other things. By Fall, the “position” of the Pilgrims had

changed to the point that they wanted to sponsor a feast in order to celebrate.

The problem that they encountered with this feast was that Captain Miles Standish (the leader of the Pilgrims) was unaware that Squanto, Mamoset (Squanto’s friend) and Massasoit (the leader of the Wampanoag) would also bring their immediate families to the feast. Amounting to over 90 guests, the Feast would have been impossible if not for the Indians supplying the majority of the food.

While accurate that this three day celebration spawned peace and friendship between Massasoit and Captain Standish, it was short-lived.

Why? Primarily because most of the English people who subsequently came to America forgot what had been done for them.

So, how does this relate to today’s Christian? Generally, our Thanksgiving consists of gathering in a home and decorating our formal dining table for a day of food and more food, television, and sleep. Yes, the obligatory prayer is said (by most), but largely, with little real acknowledgement of the “gifts” of divine protection, favor, and blessings given to us by God. You see, the Pilgrims had their needs met and supplied by the Wampanoag, while we serve a God Who has already supplied (note past tense) all of our needs and solved all of our problems from the foundation of the World! The only thing needed in order for us to appropriate these things to our own lives is our acceptance of them. Now that is something to be thankful for every day of the year!

Intimate Hues Worship Central has been touring the UK. Its founder and singer/ songwriter, Tim Hughes bares his soul to Sally Anderson-Wai Can you give us a brief testimony?

I grew up in a Christian home. My dad is a vicar and I grew up with a sense and an understanding of who God was. However, it was when I was 11-years-old I attended a Christian conference called New Wine.

I remember being deeply impacted by the worship and it struck me that people here didn’t just know about a God, they were in a relationship with him. That week, I gave my life to Christ and it changed my world forever.

What does the Lord mean to you?

God is at the centre of everything I am.

Choosing to live my life for His glory, not for my own has given me a sense of purpose, a sense of joy and a sense of great peace.

Knowing that I am chosen, loved and set apart is the most amazing revelation.

How has He transformed you?

Life always throws battles and blessings at you. There are times of great testing and I think my faith and my relationship

with God has helped me to gain perspective. By putting my trust in him, there is a strength to keep going. Also, there is a confidence to step out and take risks, knowing that he will be faithful.

How did you become a musician?

It was at the conference when I was 11years-old that I got a passion for worship.

I returned home, desperate to learn the guitar so that I could worship in my room.

I would spend hours learning chords, learning rhythms and worshipping God through song with the guitar.

What inspires you?

There are many things that inspire me; music, the Bible, my friends and family, creation. To be honest, inspiration is all around us and that is allowing your heart to be moved by the things you are a part of.

How do you write songs/music?

The beauty of music is that there is no right way of writing a song. Every song will have a different story, a different tv4life.com

beginning. For me, I am always trying to write songs of worship. Someone once said, “Songs of devotion spring from a life of devotion.” Most of my songs usually start from reading a passage of scripture, out of a talk I’ve heard at church or a conversation with friends. You grasp something, you sense something of who God is and you begin to respond with music and lyrics. Often my songs of worship start out of personal quiet times, worshipping God. Then begins the process of crafting and developing these ideas, fleshing them out into songs that can be used by many congregations.

What is your aim with your songs/music?

Whenever I write a song, my hope is that God will be glorified. Alongside that, I hope that people can be inspired to worship God. There is nothing more amazing than singing a song and singing some words that allow your heart to respond to who God is, that reminds you again just how amazing and wonderful our God is.

What are you working on?

My main focus is with a school of worship I run called Worship Central. We are constantly running training days and have events around the world – in London, California, India and Hong Kong. I’m passionate about training worship leaders, musicians and worshippers and I’m very excited about all that God is doing.

What are the highs and lows of your career?

There are so many highs with what I do.

I absolutely love my job. It’s so exciting serving God and seeing him at work, working with amazing people, being rooted in a fantastic church, Holy Trinity Brompton in London.

I guess the lows can at times be the busyness, the pressure, creative frustrations such as, at times, not being able to write the songs that are in your head and you would love to see happen.

However, at the end of the day, I’m so grateful to God for the privilege of being able to do what I do.

“Regenerated” Mind

phesians 4:23: “and be renewed in the spirit of your mind.”

The heart and mind are the seat of true and lasting productivity and the ultimate determinants of destiny. This is why Proverbs 4:23 says, “keep your heart with all diligence, for out of it springs the issues of life.” The dynamics of how choices, decisions and directions are made means everything.

Those whose thought-life is ruled by God’s Word are empowered to rule their world. 3 John 2 prays that “you may prosper in all things and be in health, just as your soul prospers”. The truth is that until your mind is renewed through knowledge and bible insight, your life cannot be transformed.

The Power Of The Gospel The gospel’s true impact is in the renewal of the mind. “Salvation” should result in divine thoughts flooding your soul, because “if anyone is in Christ, he is a new creation; old things have passed away; behold, all things have become new”; 2 Corinthians 5:17.

Your spirit man was dead but is now made alive in Christ Jesus. As a result, your mind becomes spiritually charged and can think on divine frequencies. It is no surprise that Paul said, “we have the mind of Christ”; 1 Corinthians 2:16.

That is why Adam (before sin) could name all animals effortlessly and accurately. He knew Eve’s anatomy and purpose moments after seeing her, because his mind was perfectly in tune with the intentions of God. Salvation makes you think differently, unnaturally and spiritually. This is called a regenerated mind.

Esther’s thoughts were different from those of others. David saw Goliath’s threats as an opportunity to glorify God.

Nehemiah pictured Jerusalem’s brokendown walls and how to have them rebuilt.

I see you becoming a champion through the infusion of creative, productive and powerful thoughts into your mind.

Renewing The Mind Here are three simple steps to mental transformation. First, make a habit of meditating in the Scriptures and allow the Holy Spirit to illuminate your understanding. Think hard, ponder deeply, brood on the bible’s teachings and hunger for truth. “The entrance of God’s words gives light; it gives understanding to the simple”; Psalm 119:130.

Secondly, fill your mind with knowledge. Ignorance is destructive.

Study, research, keep the learning process going and be well informed.

Read broadly and devote time to thinking. Refuse to allow entertainment and pleasure seeking to dull your mind.

Last, find “meditated solutions” to the challenges and dilemmas of your life and those of others. Be a problem solver. Sit back, reflect and pray; wait on the Holy Spirit, the Word and the knowledge you have and allow “insights and secrets” to flow through your renewed mind.

Examples to Emulate This was Joseph’s secret. He decrypted Pharaoh’s dream through meditated answers. “He answered Pharaoh, saying, “It is not in me; God will give Pharaoh an answer of peace.” ”; Genesis 41:16. The same applied to Daniel. He “answered in the presence of the king…”for there is a God in heaven who reveals secrets.” “; Daniel 2:27–29.

Daniel was a man of the Spirit, given to study and deep meditation. The renewed, regenerated spiritual mind is the “baseline” for true empowerment.

Jesus led the way by combining deep spirituality and mental acumen. He had spiritual soundness and intellectual capacity. By providing profound teachings, effective answers, team leadership, wealth creation and working miracles, He led a revolution that the world has not recovered from.

Martin Luther, the great sixteenthcentury reformer, earned a first degree in one year from the University of Erfurt at the age of 18. Three years later he completed his Master’s degree.

He was able to lead a global Protestant movement by the intellectual prowess to publish 95 Theses against the Roman Catholic institution, combined with deep spiritual conviction and personal meditation.

Barack Obama is the incumbent 44th President of the United States. A graduate of Harvard Law School, he was a professor of Constitutional Law at the University of Chicago for 12 years. He is also a man of faith and conviction, his intellectual muscle and spiritual depth leading to history-making global impact and significance.

On these dark winter nights, it’s good to have activities to do after school.

So below we have printed a stained glass window candle which you can either colour in or cut out and use as a stencil to make your own Christmas cards. Another alternative idea is to cut out the stained glass window and stick it on card. You could then cut out the shapes and in their place stick coloured pieces of tissue paper. Try hanging it in front of a window so the light shines through, or shine a torch behind it.

These books tell about the Bible in a funny way. I like the hilarious cartoons and extra funny captions. I’ve read stories I’ve heard in the past in a way I’ve never seen them before. Andy Robb tells interesting Bible facts in a new funny way. The bible is better than it looks. I like to read them anywhere and in church too. I think children from aged five-and-a-half-years to about 13 would like them.

Andy Robb is the best Christian author I know.

MOVING UP HIGHER JOYCE MEYER

W

ithout a healthy attitude toward money and possessions, everyday life can be miserable. People who think too highly of finances and material goods often live in pursuit of luxuries that leave them unsatisfied.

They find themselves with full bank accounts and empty hearts, or they end up spending more than they make and struggling under the weight of debt.

In many cultures around the world today, a heavy emphasis is placed on money, designer clothes and accessories, high-end electronics, luxury cars, and other material goods. Many aspects of our everyday lives have fallen prey to commercialization, and societies assign great value to worldly success and provisions. Everywhere we look the message is to earn more, buy more, and have more. But I’m not sure “more” is all it’s advertised to be. It’s time to put our possessions into perspective.

I don’t believe more money or more possessions are a solution to people’s problems. Everywhere I go, I notice men and women, even boys and girls, who are so busy trying to acquire more—more money, more “stuff,” more everything.

People rarely have time for each other nowadays, and that doesn’t seem to bother them as much as it did years ago.

Life has become so complicated and so driven, often by the pursuit of money and possessions- a pursuit that will leave you empty and unfulfilled if you’re not careful.

First Timothy 6:7 says, “For we brought nothing into the world, and obviously we cannot take anything out of the world” (The Amplified Bible). As you develop a healthy perspective of possessions and finances, you must understand that you won’t be able to take anything with you when you pass away. The money and things you have on earth are for you to enjoy and use to bless others. They are not to make you feel superior to someone else, to hoard and protect, or to show off. You aren’t to love, treasure, or serve things. You are to love and serve God. You aren’t to seek things above all.

You are to seek God’s kingdom first and foremost- and things will be added to you (see Matthew 6:33).

I have no problem whatsoever with people who have nice things. I have some nice things and I enjoy them, but I am determined not to love them. In this day and age, if any of us are going to resist the temptation to love material possessions, we must resist it on purpose because we are surrounded by greed.

I often overhear people making comments such as, “Well, I just can’t be happy if I don’t have a bigger house” or “I just have to have those new designer jeans.” I have even heard people say, “Oh, that (house, car, outfit) is to die for!” If you hear statements like these, you must remember, they represent the values of our culture, but they don’t reflect the values of God’s kingdom.

You see, we are supposed to be

channels, not reservoirs. We are supposed to receive from God, be blessed, and use what He gives us to bless other people. We need to view our finances as a stream with a constant flow. Anytime you dam up water, it gets stagnant, and greed has the same effect on us. It can make us want to hold on to everything we have and not share the blessings we have with others.

Let me encourage you to be a giver.

Don’t become enamored with the world’s value system and its attempts to lure you into “more and more and more.” Pay attention to your thoughts and desires so you don’t become a lover of money.

Study God’s Word to find out what He says about having money and being a good steward, and keep your resources flowing by using them to serve God and bless other people.

Worshipping The Christ Child Worship leader and ordained minister Ken Thomas has recently written a new Christmas song. Here he gives his views on worship.

F

or centuries people all over the world have been caught up in the excitement of Christmas with the singing of songs of the season, carols and madrigals. We especially get nostalgic and even teary-eyed when singing songs about the baby in the manger. I have, however, on occasion been bothered when I have seen people staggering merrily around with drinks in hand while singing sacred songs of the Christ child. I have witnessed gatherings or parties at Christmas when some attending did not even believe that Jesus was truly the Son of God and yet they were singing as if they did. I once asked a person of a different faith at one of these gatherings why they were singing songs of Christmas when they did not even believe in Jesus. They responded by saying that they just enjoyed the atmosphere of Christmas.

I am afraid that we as Christians sometimes find ourselves doing the same thing during the Christmas season or even in church during worship on

Sunday. We just enjoy getting caught up in the atmosphere of the moment with our minds not really focused on who He is, who we are in relation to Him and why we are even singing.

I personally do not believe that we can truly worship the Christ Child until we have a relationship with the Man who died on the Cross. I have summed it up in the following poem I wrote: Loving The Christ Child

I first had to know He was destined to die To see him in Bethlehem far.

I first had to see dark clouds in the sky Before I could follow the star.

I first had to see the nails in His hands To see Him as the meek and mild.

I first had to see the old rugged cross Before I could love the Child.

When we look at the Child in the manger we have to realize that He is the great “I Am.” He is the “Alpha and Omega” and the One who was “Slain from the foundation of the World.” He has always been in existence. The first chapter of John says, “In the beginning was the Word and the Word was with God and the Word was God….and the Word became flesh and dwelt among us.” So when we look at the child we are really seeing someone who has always been. When we look at the Child we are looking at someone who “knew us even before we were formed in the womb.”

When we look at the Child in the manger we are looking at our Saviour who could have stayed where He was with God, but instead chose to come down to earth and save us. Even though we are worshipping the Christ Child, He deserves the best praise that we can give Him and in the right spirit.

As the band Delirious? releases its parting gift The HistoryMakers Greatest Hits CD and plays at its final UK concerts in Belfast, Edinburgh, Bristol, Birmingham, Leeds and finally London, TV4Life asked vocalist Martin Smith some final questions.

Are there any gigs that stand out in your memory?

“Yes. We were playing in Hyderabad in India and there were 400, 000 people in the field. It was extraordinary.

Another one is at Hillsong in Sydney at the Olympic dome. Thousands of people worshiping God, extraordinary!”

Have you felt pressured to be commericially accepted or have you done your own thing?

“At times yes, but deep down we have always been ‘shepherd boys’ singing simple songs to God. It’s been a journey for us. Sometimes, looking back, we did what we thought other people would like but most of the time we have been true to ourselves, we have done what God asked us to do.”

Which one of your albums do you like best and why?

“There are bits of all of them I like

but King of Fools has a ‘sound’ to it and Mezzamorphis broke so many boundaries.”

What are you proud of?

“That we are still friends after 17 years, we still love and respect each other, that we will end this season well and move on to different things.

The music has been fresh, we paved the way for many bands to believe that their music could touch the whole world, not just the church.”

What are the highs and lows?

“Highs are being on stage and seeing God touch people, that is what I was born for.

Lows, travel, being away from my wife and kids, airports,airports,airports,airports!”

What have you learnt along the way?

“That God is interested in everything we do. To be productive/creative you need to pull away from the crowd and be with God.” What does the future hold?

“I will always make music in some form. I don’t have any great plans as yet but this is a time for me to be at home, be with my children, go cycling, be still, listen to God and let him reveal what it is our family should be doing.”

Do you have a message for your fans?

The renowned Nashville-based pianist, composer and arranger Tom Howard has produced a little cracker. He has come up with fresh and inspired versions of timeless classics like “Silent Night”, “Joy To The World”, “Carol Of The Bells” and “O Come All Ye Faithful”.

Tom gives 15 Christmas songs a special touch using classic film-score piano, jazz and whatever else comes to mind. This CD will appeal to both young and old with its rich tones and textures.

An Evening With J.John And Friends It was funny, entertaining and heartrendingly good to see world evangelist J.John on tour.

After 30 years of ministry his jokes and banter were still refreshing and his heart for the poor and lost shone through.

Like a gang from Men In Black, J.John was escorted to the platform at St Johns Church, Colchester, by his suited and booted son, Michael, and friend, Dave Hill.

The evenings entertainment was conducted like a television interview interspersed by ďŹ lm clips and bouts of worship led by professional singer/songwriter Nicki Rogers. It was part of his two months tour of the UK to celebrate his time serving the Lord.

With a record like his, Greek-Cypriot born J. John has a lot to shout about. To date, he has completed thousands of speaking engagements at conferences, towns, cities and universities in 58 countries on ďŹ ve continents and authored 21 titles printed in thirteen languages. But he boasts only in the Lord and the thousands who have come to Christ through him are grateful for his anointing.

J.John, who has appeared on television with Joyce Meyer and Cilla Black, demonstrated his much-loved art of storytelling to hilarious effect. He helped the audience to discover new spiritual meaning in a way to their lives.

He told of how he started leading people to the Lord the day after he said the sinnerâ&#x20AC;&#x2122;s prayer on February 9th, 1975 when his own life was transformed forever.

During the evening he promoted his book, the charity Compassion and ďŹ nished by leading the audience in a sinnerâ&#x20AC;&#x2122;s prayer.

The evening was well worth the ďŹ ve pounds I paid for the ticket and left me with a new zest for the Lord.

A Messianic Jewish Perspective Of Christmas

A

celebration of Christmas is not a Biblical holiday in the sense that it is not listed in scripture as one of God’s appointed days. In other words, the Bible doesn’t tell us we should have a special holiday or a special appointment with God each year to celebrate Yeshua’s birth.

Christmas is also not a Biblical holiday in the sense that there is no evidence that December 25th was actually the day that Yeshua was born. In fact, as far, as we can tell, a day of commemorating the Messiah’s birth did not begin until 336AD in Rome because that day was already a major pagan festival called “Sol Invictus” which was a celebration of the birth of the sun (not the “son” but the “sun”). As more and more people began to identify with the Christian faith, largely due to Constantine making Christianity the state religion in the Roman Empire, Christians replaced the pagan celebration of “Sol Invictus” with the celebration of Christmas, the birth of the Son of God and the Son of Righteousness (Malachi 4:2). It was an attempt to bring the pagans into a more accurate expression of worship.

There is, however, nothing mentioned in scripture about having a day to rejoice in the first coming of the Messiah,

the fulfillment of the Jewish Messiah.

Scripture records for us the experience of the Magi. Magi is a word meaning “wise men”. We typically hear that there were three magi who came to rejoice at the birth of the Messiah, although the scriptures do not tell us there were three of them, but only that they presented Him with three gifts. (Matthew 2:1,2,7-11).

“They rejoiced” at the birth of Messiah and so there is nothing wrong with rejoicing and celebrating the coming of the Messiah.

The fulfillment of the Messianic prophecy is exciting! We are going to look at the coming of Yeshua, the Messiah from a uniquely Jewish perspective. First meditate with me on the Jewishness of the concept of the virgin birth (Isaiah 7:14). Some of us have a hard time believing that there was a virgin birth because we have never seen a virgin birth nor heard of a virgin having a baby. That is why it is a miracle.

If you think about it, Yeshua is a unique being. He is not like everybody else. He is God in the flesh, completely unique and so it only makes sense that His birth and entrance into the world would be unique, as was His exit – supernaturally ascending into heaven (Acts 1:9).

God chose the Jewish people to be unique. Their history records several unique and supernatural births. In fact the history of the Jewish people and the origins of their faith begins with a promise that was fulfilled by a unique

and supernatural birth. All of the patriarchs witnessed supernatural births.

Abraham witnessed his wife Sarah’s miraculous delivery. Isaac pleaded with the Lord on behalf of Rebekah, who was unable to bear children (Genesis 25:21.) And Jacob’s wife Rachel also gave testimony to God’s intervention in the conception and birth of the child (Genesis 30:22 and Matthew 1:18-25).

It is not the size of our faith, but the greatness of our God. God is the one who gives to us and sustains us.

Immanuel means God is with us. How far is He with us? So far that he came down from heaven to become one of us. He understands our problems. He identifies with us. He is one with us (Hebrews 2:17,18 and 4:14,15). He became one of us. The prophecy in Genesis 3: 14, 15 is from the Torah and points towards the virgin birth. It mentions the woman’s seed but there is no mention of the man’s seed. This prophecy is about Yeshua who will supernaturally come forth from the woman without the involvement of man (Isaiah 7:14).

God did this because it was his desire to have fellowship with us (Exodus 25:8).

The birth of the messiah is the Torah’s ultimate fulfillment, the Word became flesh and dwelt among us (John 1:14).
