rade 7 learners at Kalkfontein Primary School got dressed up to the nines for their prom on Thursday 25 October to celebrate the end of their primary school careers at the Sarepta Civic Centre. The event has been marked as a historic moment for the school, as this was the very first time in the 12 years since opening its
doors that the school hosted a farewell for its senior learners. TygerBurger popped in on the day of the prom to see how the learners were celebrating their last few weeks of being primary school learners, and was greeted by the class of 2018 mingling excitedly. Assistant teacher and organiser of the event, Shane Cornelius, said the event serves as a culmination of months of hard work and planning. “It has been my dream

for a long time to host something of this nature for the school,” said Cornelius. “I am most looking forward to seeing the learners enjoy their time, and of course I love their facial expressions when they enter the hall.” Cornelius said he hoped the evening would serve as some sort of encouragement for the learners as they move forward to high school. “I hope this will encourage them to work hard to eventually attain matric,” he said. Head boy of the school, Amissi Mzaliwa, said he would enjoy being able to hang out with his friends and listen to cool music. “I want this to be a night I will never forget and after which I can say, ‘I had the best time’,” he said.
