Calm before the storm Following some light rain on Wednesday last week, dark clouds started to move in over the Mother City. Thunder and lightning with heavier showers lasted until late into the evening. This picture of the cloud cover over Table Mountain was taken by local Milnerton photographer, Colin Brown. NEIGHBOURHOOD WATCH AWARDS: SUMMER GREENS NHW SCOOPS SEVERAL AWARDS
Hard work pays off RICHARD ROBERTS @richardjohn_rj
T
he hard work and determination of the Summer Greens Neighbourhood Watch has finally paid off. The watch was named first runner-up in the category Neighbourhood Watch of the Year 2017 at an awards ceremony held last week. The awards ceremony took place at the Civic Centre in Cape Town on Monday 26 March and was hosted by the City of Cape Town’s Department for Safety, Security and
Social Services and the Western Cape Department of Community Safety. The watch also walked away with the Broken Windows Award (gold), Mobiliser of the Year Award (silver) for their chairperson, Reagan Croeser and Master of Skills Award (silver) for their member Feerouza Kruger. Croeser, told TygerBurger on Wednesday last week that they are truly humbled and appreciative of winning all these awards. “It is such a privilege, and recognition for our neighbourhood watch. “My executive committee and watch mem-
bers sacrifice a lot of their time in serving our community and this is one of the ways which shows that no good deed goes unnoticed,” Croeser says. Asked about some of the contributing factors that led to them winning all their awards, Croeser replied: “The main contributing factors would be all the hours volunteered in our community. “Whether it’s our daily area patrols, responding to crime incidents, domestic violence, missing children alerts or suspicious activity.
“ It’s the active, dedicated neighbourhood watch members in Summer Greens that go above and beyond their duties. “I also have a well-led executive committee which have taken their roles in full stride, without disappointment.” He says besides being neighbourhood watch members, they all are community members and their passion and dedication lie in making make Summer Greens a safer and cleaner environment for their children to grow up in.
