s a little girl, she dreamt of crowds cheering and watching in awe as she performed. She would give little performances in the lounge, entertaining anyone who would listen. And now, all grown up, Rushney Ferguson (29) is living proof that dreams do come true. Ferguson, who lives in the Tyger Waterfront, is taking centre stage as Angelina, one of the lead characters in David Kramer’s Langarm, currently on stage at the Fugard

Theatre. The musical is set in 1965 and follows the story of ballroom dancers in a tumultuous period of Cape Town’s past. Among the various plots is the one of Furguson’s character, Angelina, who is left in the lurch by her dance partner. ces. “I was shell-shocked by the attention.” But judging from the response so far, it definitely won’t be her last. A review by Broadwayworld.com praises her strength as a “triple-threat” – singing, dancing and acting. Interestingly enough it was the dancing she says was the biggest challenge in the show. She is a trained choreographer who studied Dance, Drama and Musical Theatre at the Waterfront Theatre College. And even though she’s an expert in most dancing styles, ballroom dancing was something new. V To page 3.
