Hier is konst. Fence at Majik Forest JANA BEKKER
Walkers, runners and cyclists will soon be able to enjoy the serenity of the Majik Forest with complete peace of mind, as the first phase of the fence at the forest will be completed by the end of June. TygerBurger reported about the
planned fencing project in February this year, (“Woud spoedig veilig”, 1 February), after funding for the fence was approved by the City of Cape Town. At the time it was stated that the fencing would be erected by June and the progress is well on schedule. The first phase will be completed by end June. This popular public open space provides a popular recreational
space for cyclists and hikers, but after a number of attacks in the forest over a number of months, fencing became a priority. The 2,1m high steel palisade will mainly follow the line of the existing farm fence and parallel to Jip de Jager, it will follow a line between the vineyards and the river. The fence will be erected on the border, which means the gravel
road next to Majik Forest will not be included, as it is part of the farm Door De Kraal. Andrea Crous, councillor for Ward 70, said pedestrian and vehicle gates will be placed at existing and logical access points. Vehicle gates will be locked at all times and only service vehicles will be allowed. Entrances for cyclists and hikers will stay the same.
Crous said the fence around Vink se Bos will be of steel mesh, the same as at Tyger Valley Shopping Centre, while similar gates will also be installed. After the completion of the fence, access to the Majik Forest will be controlled with a card system. Access cards will be sold at the Spar in the Van Riebeeckshof Centre. . To page 2.
