Cleaning up Bellville JANA BEKKER

The gloves are off between parties in a drive to free Bellville’s streets from prostitution, after a cease and desist letter was sent to Prof Erwin Schwella, who started a campaign in this regard. The lawyer's letter was sent to Schwella as an order of the Rabie Property Group, where Leigh Metcalf is an employee, requesting Schwella to remove all postings linking Rabie Property Group to Loevenhof Flats. Metcalf is the owner of one of the Loevenhof Flats in Boston – one of a number of Bellville properties

where alleged prostitution takes place and the first property that is tackled by the Schwella brothers through their campaign. Schwella and his brother, Werner, have been the force behind this drive, known as “professional policing in Bellville”. A Facebook page by the same name was formed, which serves as a platform for residents to voice their concerns and give input or tips relating to crime and policing. The letter followed articles posted on the page, relating to the flats, Metcalf and the Rabie Property Group. This has, according to the letter, resulted in third parties publishing

negative comments in respect of the Rabie Property Group on online forums. “This has caused the group to be drawn into the matter and its reputation slighted as a consequence and is entirely unjustified,” the letter states. “Our client has no interest whatsoever in the flats, either as an owner or otherwise,” states the letter from the Rabie Property Group’s lawyers, Bernadt Vukic Potash & Getz. The letter states that the fact that Metcalf is an employee of the Rabie Property Group, does not entitle Schwella to associate their client with their grievances relating to

the flats. It states Metcalf advised the law firm that she will be communicating directly with Schwella, “so as to clarify her position”, as well as to impress upon him that Rabie Property Group is in no manner related to this matter. “Whilst our client appreciates your desire to address social issues, it is not appropriate to attempt to use (them) as leverage in order to pressure Metcalfe to act on issues you believe warrant attention,” the letter states. The letter also indicates that it was inappropriate and unacceptable for (Schwella) to post articles on Facebook or any medium, linking

or associating Rabie Property group with the flats. In conclusion, the letter requests Schwella to immediately cease and desist from his conduct and immediately remove all postings linking Rabie Property Group to Loevenhof Flats. In a letter from Metcalf to Schwella, she said she was the owner of only one of the five sections (four of which are flats and the other a motor dealership) in her personal capacity. “This property has now and in the past nothing to do with the Rabie Property Group,” Metcalf wrote. .
