Lonely cows on the mooove Unaccompanied cattle seen grazing alongside Hindle Road. The cattle have on various occa sions crossed the road in the midst of oncoming traffic, resulting in cars having to stop and wait for the cattle to cross. According to JP Smith, Mayoral Committee member for safety and security; and social services, the City of Cape Town’s Animal Control Unit will deal with any animals found roaming on public roads and places that pose a risk to public health and safety. He says that this action is also taken in an effort to ensure the safety of the animals. In terms of the City of Cape Town’s Animal Bylaw, 2010 permission is needed from the City to keep any animal. “Members of the public can report stray animals to the Law Enforcement control room on 021 596 1999 and the complaint will be dealt with by the Animal Control Unit,” says Smith. he half-burnt structure of Endtime Ministries, situated on the corner of Bob’s Way and Spurwing Drive, stands barricaded after a fire raged through the building on Monday morning, 21 August. According to Bishop Gerrit Koopman and his wife Shantil Koopman, the fire destroyed the church’s toilets, kitchen, kitchen utensils and all the materials used to run the var-
ious programmes offered at the church. “As yet, forensics have not come out to determine the cause of the fire,” says Koopman. However, a family of six have been living on the premises, with permission, and it is alleged that one of the girls accidenatly left a candle burning when she went to school. The family’s Wendy house structure completely burnt down while parts of the church structure burnt down as well. Nobody was injured in the fire.
The church has been a hub of activity in the community for the past three years, with holiday programmes, a feeding scheme and various church activities being run on the premises. At the time of the fire Koopman was out of town. “The community has been phenomenal in their support of our church during this time,” says Koopman, who returned on Thursday evening. “The Greater Blue Downs Ministers Fraternal has also been very supportive. of them visited the church and prayed here, and their human dignity pastor came to help us remove the burnt items from the building.” He says that the plan for now is meeting with the board of the church and then deciding on the way forward. “Right now we don’t know where we’ll be having our service on Sunday,” says Koopman. “We do, however, believe that God will come through for us.” V To page 2.
