RUYTERWACHT MAN ARRESTED: TWO YOUNG GIRLS RAPED
‘Uncle’ accused of rape TARRYN-LEIGH SOLOMONS @tarryns07
T
wo girls, aged four and five, from Ruyterwacht had their childhood snatched from them when a man whom they grew to love, allegedly raped them. The 58-year-old has been charged with two counts of rape following his arrest on Thurs-
day 27 February. He made his second appearance in the Goodwood magistrate’s court on Friday 6 March where a provisional date for a formal bail application was set for Monday 23 March. The packed court room was filled with anger as the accused walked up to the dock with a smile on his face.
One could hear a murmur from one of the family’s supporters saying, “you are still smiling.” The mother of the five-year-old girl spoke to TygerBurger outside court and recalled the events that led to the man’s court appearance. “The girls are cousins. The four-year-old is my sister’s child and the five-year-old is
mine. He used to stay in a wendy house behind our main house. He was there for a few months before this happened. My daughter and her cousin really loved him because he was very nice to them. We would’ve never thought that he would turn on them like this,” says the mother whose identity has to be withheld to protect the children. V To page 4
