ELDERLY OAKDENE MAN MURDERED IN OWN HOME: POLICE SEARCH FOR STOLEN VEHICLE
Highbury on high alert JAYDEE CYSTER @jaydeecyster
T
he body of a local man was discovered in his house in Oakdene in Kuils River – near the Kuils River railway station near Highbury – on the afternoon of Sunday 6 August. The man was reportedly alone at his residence when there was a break-in at his house. According to provincial police spokesper-
son, Lieutenant Colonel André Traut, the circumstances surrounding the death of the 60-year-old man are currently still under investigation. “It is suspected that the victim’s vehicle, a white Hyundai Veloster with registration number CF 48751, was stolen during the apparent house robbery,” says Traut. Police confirmed that only the vehicle was stolen in the incident. Photos of a Hyundai fitting the description of that of the deceased were circulated on so-
cial media. However, TygerBurger was unable to confirm the authenticity of the photos by the time of going to print. According to Kuils River police spokesperson, Captain Isaac van Niekerk, their office is currently investigating a case of murder. He confirmed that no arrests have been made as yet. By the time of going to print, Van Niekerk had also confirmed that police were “still in
possession of the crime scene” and that forensics were also still completing their investigation. Despite numerous attempts prior to the print deadline, TygerBurger was unable to contact Aubrey Lottering of the local Highbury Crime Watch for comment. Anyone with information about the incident is urged to contact Crime Stop on 08600 10111. VWhat is your opinion on this article? Let us know at briewe@tygerburger.co.za.
