A

lack of parking at an essential service facility in Kuils River is being addressed. This comes as a concerned resident of Kuils River, who takes his wife to Netcare Kuils River Hospital for monthly checkups, tells TygerBuger how the lack of parking at the hospital has become a very frustrating problem. “Every time we come to the hospital there is no parking and we have to park on a field which is quite a distance from the entrance,” he says. According to hospital general manager, Nolan Daniels, the hospital is aware of the

problem, as they do receive complaints from patients and visitors regarding the limited parking bays. “While we realise that the insufficient parking available to patients and visitors is an inconvenience, for which we sincerely apologise, we do have plans to provide more parking,” he says. The current parking capacity at the hospital is 337 parking bays, with allocated bays for resident doctors as well as senior management of the facility, and the remaining staff members, patients and visitors using the upper deck, the parking lot adjacent to the BP garage, riverbank temporary bays, as well as any other available (non-demarcated) parking bays. Daniels does, however, confirm that the

hospital has plans to extend the parking area. “Since October 2016 we have had a 10-year lease with the municipality for the plot of land across from the river in Russell Street, for which we have been paying a monthly rental.” The purpose of the lease is to avail a further 125 parking bays for patients and visitors. “Development for this commenced in June and unfortunately after a few weeks of work, construction had to be halted. Work was suspended with immediate effect by the City of Cape Town after it was established that, due to an oversight, operations had started before the plans had been signed off,” explains Daniels. It’s time to show off your family’s most loved recipe! TygerBurger’s #We♥Tyger campaign will this month focus on all things heritage, kicking off with our Heritage Day competition, namely “Heritage in a Dish”. We are calling on you, our local cooks, to show off your favourite recipe handed down from a parent/ grandparent /aunt/uncle, but we would also like you to send us a heartwarming story or memory and photo of you and that beloved family member. We want you, our loyal readers, to share a piece of yourselves with us and our other readers. This is how the competition will work: . Send in a photo of you with your mom/ dad, ouma/oupa or aunt/uncle AND your favourite recipe of theirs, along with a short story or memory associated with this dish and why you love it, by no later than Monday 18 September. . Five finalists will be chosen to compete for the grand prize. . Photos of the finalists, their stories and recipes will be published in our newspaper on Wednesday 20 September and also on our social media platforms. . On 22 September the finalists will bring their heritage dishes, which they made themselves, to the TygerBurger office where a panel of judges will decide on the winner. . A group photo of the sponsors and finalists with their heritage dishes will be published in the newspaper on Wednesday 27 September. . The winner will be notified on 29 September and a photo of the winner will be published in the newspaper on Wednesday 4 October. Each finalist will receive a R500 Shoprite/ Checkers voucher to buy their ingredients to make their dish. They will also each win a R500 voucher and movie tickets for reaching the top five. The winner will also walk away with mystery prizes from TygerValley and Parow shopping centres.
