ATTEMPTED ROBBERY: COUPLE UNHARMED
Parow streets not safe RICHARD ROBERTS @richardjohn_rj
A
couple from Oostersee who narrowly escaped the clutches of a group of robbers after visiting a medical facility recently, says they want to warn others to be vigilant when walking the streets of Parow. Miguel Rainho (39) told TygerBurger last week that four men and a woman approa-
ched him and his wife, Carmen (36) after they had visited the Medicross Parow Family Medical Centre in McIntyre Street. The group demanded cash and their wallets. “My wife and I went to see the doctor. “Five people tried to rob us as we left the building. We walked out of the centre, and turned left. That is when the four guys and a girl approached us.”
The group approached the couple from the front. “They wanted to rob us. At first, they wanted a R10 before surrounding us and pushing us into a corner. Then they plucked us around ... in broad daylight. “They demanded my wife’s wallet, but she held onto it,” Rainho explains. The couple went back inside the medical centre to notify the staff who then called se-
curity who followed the group to a house nearby. They searched them but had let them go,” Rainho says. Derek Bock, chief operations officer at the Voortrekker Road Corridor Improvement District (VRCID), says according to their public safety officers on duty, they also responded to the incident in the parking area outside the medical centre.
