N

orthlink College’s Parow campus is giving young people a second opportunity to better their lives by taking part in the Safety in Society programme. Those who have passed grades 9, 10 and 11 are eligible to apply for this programme. According to the college’s programme manager, Wyatt Thornton, the three-year programme, which is free of charge, is pegged at NQF level 4, which is equivalent

to matric. “The programme was started in 2008 in order to enhance the Law Enforcement agencies,” says Thornton. On Friday 12 January, the last 50 candidates were registered for the programme. In total, there are now 215 candidates for the course. “On completion of the programme the student will be in possession of a certificate and can apply to Law Enforcement agencies of their choice. “It must be kept in mind that if applying

to Law Enforcement agencies, the students must comply with the requirements of the specific agency to which they are applying,” says Thornton. He adds that by recruiting from the local community, the institution aims to help alleviate unemployment, get the youth off the streets, and give desperate youths a better future. “It’s giving a second change of success to young people who think there is no hope,” adds Thornton.
