TABLE VIEW POLICE STATION: COLONEL LINDIWE DYANTYI NEW ACTING COMMANDER
Welcome, Colonel! RICHARD ROBERTS @richardjohn_rj
F
or Colonel Lindiwe Dyantyi, newly appointed acting commander at the Table View Police Station, the challenges lying ahead for the next three months are something she is willing to take on with both hands, she says. Dyantyi, who comes with a lengthy career CV, was introduced to residents on Thursday last week at a community meeting held at the Kingsgate Fellowship Church. She replaces Colonel Dirk Vosloo, who has been redeployed to the Nyanga police cluster for three months, and started working in her post officially on Monday. Speaking in a one-on-one interview with TygerBurger at her office on Monday this week, Dyantyi said she is looking forward to the road ahead. “I have no fear, no matter how many challenges I face; I am ready for these challenges.” She says some of the crimes she was made aware of and which she will have to address in Table View include burglary at residential properties, malicious damage to property, assault with the intent to do grievous bodily harm and also murder. Whatever may come, she is ready, as she already has the support of the community, she says. “I was given a warm welcome by the community and I have no doubt that I have their support. “I met with some of the neighbourhood watch members on my arrival, and on Thursday last week I met with a larger
group of watch members. “I have their support – I just have to bring my side,” she says. Dyantyi says that since taking over the role as acting commander, the police station has been working on the festive season operational plan, which is already in place and being executed. Dyantyi joined the South African Police Service on 1 February 2002. She went on to become a sergeant and constable, rising through the ranks to her current position of full colonel. Her career has seen her working in various areas and across the country, including Graaff-Reinet, Paarl, Gauteng, the Overberg police cluster, Hermanus (where she also worked as acting station commander for about six months), Vredendal police cluster (where she worked as deputy cluster commander and was in charge of 11 police stations) and now Table View. “I have learned a lot moving around so much, be it on the support side or operational side of the police,” says the mother of two sons. The 42 year old says she loves her work and the police service, which has taught her the basics in life such as discipline. “These are principles that you can apply to your personal life – if you abide by those rules, it helps you. “The police are an organisation with a unique culture, and I love the culture of the South African Police Service,” says Dyantyi, who is originally from Elliot in the Eastern Cape.
