obbery, assault and theft out of motor vehicles remain a major concern for Table View police. This is according to Warrant Officer Riaan Prins, sector 3 commander, who was addressing 23 residents at a community meeting on Thursday last week. The meeting was held at the Kingsgate Fellowship Church. Prins shared some of the crime statistics

recorded from Friday 1 December 2017 to Thursday 15 February 2018. According to the police’s information, a total of 306 cases were reported over this period. These crimes, Prins said, occurred mostly in the so-called hotspot blocks – areas within the sector that usually contribute to most of the crime. Prins says 62 of the 306 cases originated from the Potsdam Road area – one of the hotspots. A total of 53 cases reported occurred in Raats Drive.

Other roads in Table View also making the hotspot list are Pentz Drive, Blaauwberg, Gie and Birkenhead roads, Study Street and Boy de Goede Circle. “Our main concerns are robbery of which 19 cases were reported from 1 December until 15 February. “We had 11 common robbery cases reported, seven involving weapons used other than a firearm, and one with a firearm. “Robberies, especially on Potsdam Road, worry us. Here most people still drive with

their windows down, which makes them an easy target. “It is easy for someone just to grab your cellphone,” Prins said. Potsdam Road, residents were told, is also the capital of vehicle-related crime incidents. A total of 23 cases of theft out of motor vehicles were reported in the sector during the period under review. Assaults are also a concern, according to Prins. V To page 2.
