TALENT SHOWCASE: FUNDS RAISED WILL GO TO SRC PROJECTS
Bandfest for Stellies AVRIL FILLIES
L
ocal high school bands in Bellville and surrounds will showcase their talent at the first Bandfest of Stellenberg High School on Wednesday 17 July. The event is organised by the student representative council (SRC) of Stellenberg and funds raised will go towards the different projects of the SRC for this year. “Our SRC’s aim for 2019 is ‘Hand in hand our fire will expand’. Our school’s values and norms are based on principles of faith, integrity, responsibility and excellence –
FIRE). “As a student council, their mission for the year is to make every learner in Stellenberg feel like they belong. Our aim is to create and support various initiatives and events in order to achieve this goal,” said Andras Molnar, marketer at the school. The Bandfest will aim to include as many learners in our school and community as possible. It will create a platform for learners to showcase their talent. There will also be food stalls that are open to learners in the school and outside vendors as well. “Bandfest will also be the main fundrais-
ing event for the student council. Our student council needs funds for our leadership development opportunities, support of our community projects, such as Cansa, Shiloh and WonLife, and to support projects within the school,” said Molnar. Bandfest is also a way of developing the leadership skills of the student council learners. “We believe that project management is a valuable tool that can be used to develop leadership skills through problem solving, effective communication, handling disappointment and challenges and learning to
work together as a team to achieve a common goal. Traditionally, Grade 11 learners are in charge of this event, with our headleaders and the mentor teachers offering support and advice,” he said. The idea for the Bandfest came from the learners. “The idea was to replace Foodfest, which used to be the main fundraising event for our student council. Foodfest has become a bit outdated and we wanted something fresh and exciting which we can build on in the years to come. V To page 2.
