TAVERN OWNER’S WIFE KILLED: TWO SUSPECTS APPREHENDED, TWO STILL AT LARGE
Shot for R50, cellphone ASTRID FEBRUARIE @astridfebruarie
A
Delft woman was allegedly shot and killed for R50 and her cellphone. This is according to witnesses who reported that the woman’s cellphone and purse are missing. The murder occurred on Sunday 11 June at a tavern in Buffalo Street in The Hague. Delft police spokesperson, Warrant Officer Brian Daniels, says police were alerted
to the shooting at about 20:00. When officers arrived at the scene they found the body of a 38-year-old woman with a single gunshot wound to the side of her face just above her left eye. “According to the owner of the tavern who is the husband of the deceased, two men and two women came to his tavern and asked for two beers, but he told them that the tavern was closed and that he does not serve clients after-hours,” Daniels says. However, the two male suspects then re-
quested that he give them R20 to go buy beers elsewhere. He informed them that he did not have any money on him and that he was about to leave, but that he would check if his wife had some money. “As he walked to his vehicle where his wife was sitting in the passenger seat, the men followed him. “The husband proceeded to ask his wife for R20, but she only had a R50 note in her purse. “His wife took out her purse and wanted
to give them the R50 note, but the husband refused and said he would fetch R20 from inside the house,” Daniels says. The husband went inside the house looking for the money and while there, he heard two gunshots and rushed outside where he found his wife lying outside the vehicle, bleeding. The four suspects had fled the scene. Daniels says the deceased was declared dead on the scene by medical personnel. V To page 3.
