LIGHTER THAN AIR Design Team : Seth Bockholt, Tyler Smithson Jordan River, Salt Lake City, Utah
Utah is a land of diverse landscapes, populations, and beliefs, but the one thing we have in common is the air we breathe. Salt Lake City faces a clean air public health crisis. The contaminated air has increased Utahns’ rates of asthma, heart disease, and chronic obstructive pulmonary disease. With the regional population expected to double by the year 2050, we must stand up to the challenge to clean the air and provide for a more sustainable path for our future generations. Lighter Than Air seeks to give people a unique perspective of Salt Lake City and its air quality by lifting them 500 feet into the sky on a tethered helium balloon. While tourism may be the initial draw to this destination, this will be a transformative experience that educates participants on the importance of clean air and the connection we have to the land. The goal is that through education and lived experience, people will make changes to the way they live, which results in incremental improvements to air quality.

inclusive therapeutic recreation and educational institution for people of all abilities. Seeking to expand into a new facility, HG reached out to Architectural Nexus for programming of several buildings and a campus with various passive and active amenities.
This schematic design process was creative and fun as a number of amenities were incorporated to give the client a vision of what is possible within the space they have. The layout and orientation of the architecture not only compliments the landscape but is arranged to maximize solar energy and to maximize efficiency.

CLEARFIELD STATION MASTER DEVELOPMENT PLAN Design Team : Architectural Nexus Clearfield, Utah
Clearfield MDP serves as a guide for future development of Clearfield Station by establishing the regulatory framework and design standards needed in the approval process with Clearfield City and the Utah Transit Authority. This Transit Oriented
Development document helps to guide a thriving, mixed-use, and walkable community that seeks to become a regional destination that provides abundant opportunities for employment, living, shopping, and recreation. Broken down into eight chapters
that provide design guidelines to ensure consistency and quality across the horizontal and vertical development stages. The basis of design is to support transportation and mobility, open space and public realm, and the buildings and architecture.

Replacing over 20 acres of parking lot, this 4 story, 125 unit apartment complex features three rooftop amenity decks, an outdoor courtyard and landscaped grounds. Architectural Nexus successfully received the “certificate of appropriateness” by the Historic Landmark Commission needed to pursue development. Additionally, this project successfully obtained a master plan zoning map amendment.

THE MARK STUDENT HOUSING Design Team : FFKR Architects Tempe, Arizona
Amenity: 3D Massing
The Mark is a student housing apartments located adjacent to Arizona State University. Project includes a million dollar pool with a water slide, fire pits, and a 40 foot movie screen.
The design process for this project was enjoyable as the owner let the design team have free reign to propose a variety of desirable amenities such as niche seating areas, cabanas, grill lounge, and tiered hot tubs.

ABIDJAN COTE D’IVOIRE TEMPLE Design Team : FFKR Architects Ivory Coast, Africa
The Ivory Coast Temple marks the 5th LDS Temple to be built in Africa. Sitting high on a gently sloping hillside, this temple features a tall pyramidal spire. Construction began in 2018 and at the writing of this, interior plastering of the walls is underway.
This project proved especially challenging as requirements for site furnishings be sourced from Europe and the planting palette was limited to identifying forms and textures as local nursery stock was not known.

NATIONAL ABILITY CENTER Design Team : Architectural Nexus Park City, Utah The National Ability Center (NAC) Mountain center provides program opportunities for a broad population of people through inclusive amenities and rehabilitation opportunities. The NAC reached out to Architectural Nexus to provide construction document (CD) services to provide the adequate horizontal infrastructure to facilitate future building construction. The CD’s to the right show the elements of the Life Safety Drive, a 26 foot wide fire access lane that was designed to look natural while providing necessary functionality. Additionally, this project provided CD’s for the archery range, camping, parking expansion, trail connections, and equestrian trail modifications.

CASINO ARIZONA HOTEL Neighborhood House (NH) re-construction will aid in furthering the mission of “Opening More Doors“ for both early childhood education and adult day services. For nearly 125 years, NH has provided much needed day time care services for low-income families. The landscape design team had to consid-
er separate outdoor amenity spaces as to not have a conflict of user groups. Funding is still ongoing to accommodate adult terraces/gardens, school age movement playground, preschool outdoor learning playground, and the toddlers discovery playground
