MODULE 1: HOW TO DRAW A CROISSANT The first module of this subject is how to draw a croissant. The croissant i purchased was a little bit large which created some probelms for me when i was doing the layouts. Fistly, students need to take clear pictures for their croissant. Two sides of elevations and a top plan view. Besides, a photocpoied plan of the croissant is necessary for the accurate scale. After finishing photoing the croissant, three cut sections would be made and also need to be photocopied.
In addition to the photos, drawing the crossiant is the major work of this module. Materials and equipment used are A3 Tracing pad, 4H, 2H, 2B, 4B pencils, pencil sharpener, 0.4 fineline pen, 0.4 pen, A3 mounting board, Erasers, Scale ruler,a ruler, set square and T-Square, Masking tape. We need to rance the photos we took before, as well as the sections parts. Under the suggestion of tutor, i tried two different drwaing techniques, hatching and shading which will be presented in the folloing pages. The final work of the plan view of the croissant is actually the combination of the hatching and the shading. Finally, a croissant axonometric is also required in the module. As it could clearly reveal the cutting sections of the croissant in three dimensions. By using the drawing technique, it helps us understand the structure of croissant more.
3
Final Drawing of Croissant
In the middle of the work is the combination of hatching and shading view of the croissant. It offers a strong view to people. The outlines of this work are all used fineline pens, the rest part of the work is draw by different pencils.
4
Shading and Hatching
The view on the right is used the shading technique. More details and wrinkles are displayed in this drawing. I used 2H, 2B and 4B pencils to create it in order to create a sense of dark and soft.
The right view is the hatching croissant. As can be seen, it offers a stronger view to people comparing to the shading one. I used 0.4pens to draw it. However, the hatching view is a little bit rough, not as specific as the shading one.

M2: FLATNESS VS. PROJECTION
In the second module, students are required to show the abilities on both drawing and media. This task is about transferring the mario work from 2D to 3D. The understanding of axonometric projection is important in this module. Different students will be given two different mario worlds in 2D. Using the tracing paper to tace the two worlds on the opposite sides, then combining these two worlds together. Imagination also plays an important role in this task as the empty space needs to be filled with other featres. In my final work on the right, i added underground water to some place in my world as my origional world is quite dark and underneath the ground. Thus, the overall sense of my world is in dark colour and a bit rocky.
7
On the left side of the page are my two mario worlds. It is located underground and full of stones and caves. When I was creating my upper floor, I met a problem. Most of the under floor was hidden by the upper floor. Thus, I cut some parts of the floor in order to make a hole so that the view of the underneath is available.
8
Process of creating the Mario World
Materials: 2H, HB pencils, 0.2, 0.4 fine line pens, tracing paper, T-square, masking tape. First, using pencils to draw the draft of the mario world which traced from the two original worlds. After finsihing all the pencil works, using pens to draw the outline and scan to the computer to the media works.
9
M3: PATTERN VS. SURFACE
10
In module 3, the most challenging problem is the time. As there are total 100 small objects in a whole work. Firstly, students need to use Rhino to create their unique modules which formed by different types of pyramids.
Then, students will print out their strips they make in Rhino and cut them out on ivory card. As ivory card is a more plastic material than normal paper. Finally, using pva to glue all the pyramids together.
11
These are the process that i worked in Rhino. As can be seen above I create total 4 different types of pyramids. One is a normal pyramids and others are with different scale of holes. My origonal surface is not very fluctuant, thus i change the direction of each normal pyramids to create a sense of gradient and changes.

ICONS of The Cotinuous City: Cecilia
This module is based on the structure of ola quad. Students are given stories and using their imagination to present the main events happen in the story. My story has two major events which are two conversations between Macro Polo and the goatherd. These two conversations happen in differnt poistion and time.

The first conversation is the goatherd asking Macro Polo the name of the city. The second conversation happens years later as the same goatherd has a longer beard. The second time, the relationship between these two characters had totally exchanges. As Macro become the one who asks the way. Finally the truth is that Macro Polo never gets into another city, as he is still in the same city like the goatherd. They are all traped in this continuous city. The main difficulity in this module is how to present the events as clear as possible. In my icons on the left. I create the new symbol called the Mobius cicle. I used this symbol to symbolised the continuous idea.
Perspective Scene 1 The two characters which is closer to viewers in the scene are presenting the first conversation in the story. I placed some sheep around the goatherd and the main style of my characters is sketch. Besides, I chose bricks to erect my columns and base. As I mentioned before, the major them of my city is continuous. Thus, to reflect this idea i combined two conversations together. Both events can be viewed from one single perspective. Morover, to distinguish the major event of each perspective, the distant view of it was adjusted by liquify tools in Photoshop. For the sake of this, viewers can understand the idea i want to express more easily.

Perspective Scene 2
The second scene is presenting the second conversation in the story. I used grass on the floor to present the passage of time. In addition to the grass, i placed a goatherd with longer beard to express this idea. Moreover, the goatherd in the scene is larghing which shows that he has already become crazy as he could never get out the city. I used the same technique which i explained in persoective 1, the liquify tools. Besides, the fog in the scene also creates a sense of obscure.

REFLECTION Through this semester, I have learned a lot through both lectures and studios. During the lectures, students will be introduced basic information and rudiments which they are required for their modules. Besides, the workshop also plays an important role in the course as it teach us the media skills we needed to finish the modules, such as illustrator for Mario world and Rhino for module 3. These 4 modules all have its own theme and technique requirements. One of the most difficult problems I met is Module 3, as it required a lot of time and concentration. I spend too much time on forming the module which leads ot the result that i did not have enough time to take good pictures for my module. Thus, reasonable time division is very important to me and is what I should improve in my future studies. Moreover, the presentation is my weak parts as I would become quite nervous when i was presenting my works. In order to solve this problem, i should practise more at home and possibly finding someone as a audience first for practice. One of the most interesting modules, in my opinion is the last one, as it not only trains our understanding of the story, but also the imagination we have in creating the scenes. Although, some students will have the same story as mine, our understanding and ideas of the story are not the same. Through presentations, we will learn a lot from other students as well. Nobody can make the perfect work, learning from others and taking advices are necessary for improving our works better. In conclusion, this subject lays a solid foundation for my future studies, it teaches me the importance of time management and useful techniques of different software. I have improved in some parts of my skills, but there are others should be enhanced to get higher marks.
