12:15 p.m. $39 Alaska History as Told Through the Law A talk by Michael Carey
Alaska law is not only a land of precedents - it’s a land of records. Thousands and thousands of them, especially after the United States purchased Alaska from Russia. These records deal with virtually every aspect of Alaska life - commerce, government affairs, social welfare, marriage, individual rights, and crime for starters. Some Alaskans left their only footprints - the only footprints that can be found - in court records. Court records provide a rich view of Alaskan life, and Michael Carey will explore examples of their value in his talk.
