COULEURS DE FORGE Couleurs de Forge is one of very few companies to master the art of damask steel. (Damask steel is obtained by welding together alternate layers of different steels. The objects produced present “motifs” which can be brought out by either heat treatments or acid etching, where one type of steel is corroded by the acid, the other not.) Based on its own research into trade tools (hardware sent to the colonies or countries “under colonial influence” in the 17th and 18th centuries), Couleurs de Forge has developed a new five-knife collection entitled “Les Coureurs des Bois”. One central focus of the firm’s work is the incorporation of damask steel into traditional ironwork (furniture, candelabras, etc.). Couleurs de Forge products are sold at the Couleurs de Forge workshop and over the internet.

MARIUS FABRE MARIUS FABRE, the soap maker, was founded in 1900 in Salon-deProvence. It is specialized in making Marseille soap and black olive soap. This family-run firm, where manufacturing secrets are passed down from generation to generation, is located in the historical soap making area of Marseille. The company’s rare know-how is a manufacturing process that was developed in the 17th century (Edict of Colbert, 1688). The term “Savon de Marseille” corresponds to a manufacturing method that can only take place in openair cauldrons, like those that can be seen in the “cauldron room” in the Savonnerie Marius Fabre. Made from carefully selected plant oils (notably olive oil), the soap is cooked for several days. This process guarantees an “Extra Pure” soap of great quality.
