UCLG on Mission: Statutory Meeting and Election
SEPTEMBER 19-20, 2016, UCLG held Extraordinary Meetings for the preparations of the upcoming “5th UCLG Congress – World Summit of Local and Regional Leaders” to be held on 12-15 October, in Bogota, Colombia. Various activities are planned for the gathering, such as workshops, meetings, policy dialogues and general assembly. The agenda of the meetings focused on presenting updates for the Bogota Congress, the Habitat III Conference, the candidature for the Presidency and Treasurer of UCLG, nominations from the sections to the Statutory Bodies, candidatures for the 2019 UCLG Congress, agenda of the governing bodies in Bogota, and membership matters. Within the scope of Asia-Pacific, 3 new members were finally approved. They were the Galle Municipal Council, Local Government Authority of Maldives, and South Tangerang local government. While other decisions that were also taken included the candidatures of UCLG President. Two candidates discussed were Ilsur Metshin (Mayor of Kazan and Co-President of UCLG) and Parks Tau (Councillor of Johannesburg and President of the South African Local Government Association – SALGA). While for the call for candidatures the Co-Presidency was agreed to be extended until October 7.

The extension also applied for the call for candidatures to host the next congress until March 2017. As the UCLG Congress will also be held back-to-back with the Habitat III Conference, this meeting also discussed preparation of the congress as well as the Habitat III Conference, particularly the Second World Assembly of Local and Regional Governments.
