Call for Participation: City Consultation Survey for Global Covenant of Mayors for Climate and Energy
Cities need to collaborate to contribute to the knowledge sharing on climate change.
UCLG ASPAC has been closely collaborating with European Union through International Urban Cooperation (IUC) Project for Asia region. One of the key components of the project is implementing the Regional Chapter of the Global Covenant of Mayors (GCoM). GCoM is an international coalition of cities and local authorities with shared long-term vision of promoting and supporting voluntary action to combat climate change and move to a low-carbon society and climate resilient future. This platform is a first-of-its-kind and
the largest global coalition of cities leading the fight against climate change. The Mayors and local leaders in this alliance are ready to take concrete measures with long-term impact to tackle the interconnected challenges of climate change mitigation, adaptation, and access to sustainable energy. GCoM Secretariat is currently opening a consultation process through online survey for their GCoM member cities, starting from April 30 to end of June 2018. The survey is aiming at providing feedback on the recommended Common Reporting Framework. The following topic areas in the recommendations of the reporting framework include greenhouse gas emissions (GHG) inventory, target setting, risk and vulnerability assessment, and climate action and energy access planning. Through this consultation, the member cities are expected to share their view based on their experience to help GCoM Secretariat finalise recommendations towards a common global reporting framework for city emissions inventories, targets, risk and vulnerability assessments, and climate action plans. Furthermore, another significant objective is to understand capacities of local governments in light of national and regional contexts. The current and future GCoM cities and other related parties are welcomed to participate in the consultation data process and can be accessed through: https://www.globalcovenantofmayors.org/common-global-reporting-framework/ UCLG ASPAC and other city networks also take part in the consultation process to outreach cities and consider their needs regarding the reporting on climate change. You are welcome to send us further enquiries and comments related to the topic through IUC Asia SupportDesk email: helpdesk@iuc-asia.eu.
