DELGOSEA Network Meeting Calling for more Best Practices

AUGUST 2-3, 2016, Siem Reap, Cambodia, got visits. Representatives from Southeast Asia countries met for DELGOSEA’s Network Council General Assembly Meeting. With mission to enhance positive network among members of DELGOSEA, the meeting heard voices of DELGOSEA members. Conducted through working groups according to their respective countries, the discussion was held alive with attendees voicing ideas for Network Council to support their efforts in national stage. Some of the suggestions include promoting best practices. Not only in forms of publications, but participants feel the need to be exposed more by also attending a site visit, as it will not only contribute to exchange of knowledge but also strengthen the network. Moreover, participants also viewed capacity building essential. They came into general agreement that the effort would be good if regional level assist

them in developing their national level programs. Other suggestions coming up also covered the importance of promoting small and medium-size enterprises issues much more strongly. In the meeting, all attendees also agreed that intensive communication was necessary. Therefore, they, through their working groups, suggested that DELGOSEA extend the communication channel through other tools, such as WhatsApp, Vibre and Google; along with current best practice information dissemination through website and Facebook. Mr. Rowan Fraser from UNESCAP in his key presentation presented the challenges of rapid urbanisation and co-benefits of solid waste management. Secretary General of UCLG ASPAC provided her key remarks and highlighted the importance of political commitment and willingness of leaders and decision makers in solving this huge challenge of solid waste management. Program Associate of UCLG ASPAC shared our joint cooperation with UNESCAP in promoting and constructing "Integrated Resource Recovery Center (IRRC)" in Indonesia through its pilot city of Jambi and Malang Regency.
