Through this endeavour, it is hoped that local authorities, elected representatives and citizens, especially poor urban dwellers, will engage collaboratively to find solutions in their respective localities. On one hand, local authorities will gain support through the Equi-City project to become responsive to pressing urban challenges, to raise leadership roles in resolving equitably municipal issues, and to create greater transparency and accountability in the operations and delivery of municipal services. On the other hand, it will inform and empower urban dwellers in impoverished areas to create greater demand for efficient municipal services, and equally important, to take part in the solution.
