Participants of the in the Executive Bureau and Council Meeting 2017, ready to create other history in the upcoming Meeting in 2018.
THE First session of UCLG ASPAC Executive Bureau Meeting 2018 will be held on 10-12 April in Islamabad. The meeting will gather members of UCLG ASPAC to discuss about the internal issues of the organisation as well as the SDGs localization with the focus on financing, planning and monitoring in the implementation and to cope with the emerging challenges of urbanisation. The upcoming Executive Bureau Meeting is set up as the initial activity that will start the Asia-Pacific gathering. Scheduled on 10 April 2018, which falls on the first day, the Executive Bureau Meeting will give members more opportunities to deliver their opinions and suggestions before being occupied with other discussions and knowledge sharing. The Secretariat, therefore,
puts high expectation on the upcoming meeting; where the discussion between members and Secretariat occurs much more intensively to ensure the networking and cooperation will be more fruitful for every city. An international conference entitled, “Think Globally, Act Locally – SDGs Implementation through Local Governments” will also be held on 11 April 2018 to enrich the meeting and ensure all participating local governments bring back home fresh insights to develop their respective areas, particularly on the implementation of sustainable development goals. Issues around urbanisation, finance, importance of reliable data, and collaboration with various actors such as private institutions are very much highlighted. Following the conference, technical visit to see good practices in Islamabad will also be held. What Makes the Upcoming Executive Bureau Meeting and Conference Unique? The first session of the ExBu Meeting and Conference are exclusively designed to bring together (multi-level) local governments within Asia-Pacific with representatives of Chamber of Commerce and Industry of Islamabad (included are private enterprises, businesses, and companies) in order that fruitful collaborations can be achieved. Scheduled to be held right after the international conference takes place, participating local governments who gained fresh perspective and knowledge are able to directly create connections to related private sectors based on the potential development they envision. Thus, the gathering will also serve as the best starting point for the implementation of the knowledge obtained.
