Participants of Fire Fighting Training practicing fire exhauster exercise, Seoul, 22-26 October 2018.
FIRE, among many, is a man-made disaster that frequently occurs in Indonesia. Seeing this situation, UCLG ASPAC has held collaboration with Seoul Metropolitan Government (SMG) and Ministry of Home Affairs (MoHA) of Indonesia in organising a series of training to enhance capacity of fire personnels of cities in Indonesia. The recently concluded training event was held from 22 to 26 of October 2018 in Seoul. In this five-day training, participants were exposed with comprehensive material to expand their knowledge on fighting fire. The training discussed emergency medical services, rescue, high-rise building, and fire and disaster management. In addition to the technical knowledge transfer, participants were also exposed to the supporting facilities utilised by the firefighters in the city, such as Safety Experience Center and Incident Command Training Center. To enhance the knowledge, participants were also invited to attend the international seminar on high-rise building as well as Safe Seoul Festival. Wrapping up the training activity, participants were also given opportunity to experience Korean culture through visits to Namsan Tower and
Gyeonbokgung Palace. The training was held as the first activity of the Fire Academy of Seoul which was opened one week ago. Participants showed enthusiasm and conveyed their willingness to continue the capacity building activity. UCLG ASPAC is now working on the follow up to respond to the needs and will continuously enrich the activity.
Participants of the training enjoyed cultural experience.
