News from Secretariat UCLG ASPAC has encouraged and supported young generation to help us promote sustainable development and the well-‐being of people in the Asia-‐Pacific region. We have recently welcomed two new interns who will be provided dynamic assistance to the Secretariat’s work in various areas. We are proud to introduce our new members! Ms. Loïse Jean, a French national who is now in a final year of her graduate education. Loïse focused her study on political science and now completing a master degree in Humanitarian Aid and Development with university of La Sorbonne, Paris. She has joined UCLG ASPAC Communications and Member Services Division and will be interning for the next six months. Loïse’s academic interest includes urban development. Her master thesis analysed the model of smart cities and the research has deepened her appreciation on the need to address urbanisation at the global scale, through strong cooperation among cities. Loïse will also applied the knowledge she has gained to support UCLG ASPAC’s work on public spaces. “My involvement with UCLG ASPAC means to further develop my knowledge around urban issues and how to prevent its consequences from a transnational NGO perspective,” she said. Her professional plan for the future is to perform a field experience under an international organisation specialised in disaster crisis management. Mr. Fikri Amarrilo Adiprana, or Fikri, is an undergraduate student majoring in Urban and Regional Planning, Bandung Institute of Technology (ITB). Studying in Urban Planning has made him aware of the fact that planning is key to the prosperity of people living in a place we call city. He believes that nowadays we cannot measure prosperity by just a number that indicates economic growth but also how to achieve social welfare for people, now and many years to come through sustainable development. He has particular interest in studying how to implement the 2030 SDGs Agenda and enhance local governments’ role in the scope of development planning in Indonesia by learning from best practices of cities in the Asia-‐Pacific region. That is the reason he decided to intern at UCLG ASPAC Secretariat and support LOCALISE SDGs Programme. “I hope I can get a lot of experience through discussion, desk study, and analytical process related to urban planning issues in Indonesia,” said Fikri.
