Hello from Secretariat UCLG ASPAC is glad to welcome young people to take part in the regional works to build the capacity of local government. Currently, a student from Australia has joined the team!

My name is Nikolai Leschen, I am a third-year student majoring in International Relations at Deakin University in Melbourne, Australia. My studies have mostly focused on politics, but I am also interested in environmental and social issues. At UCLG ASPA,C I work as an Intern in the Media and Communications Division. I’m assigned to work on articles for the newsletter and enewsletter. Writing is a hobby I have had for a long time now. I am happy to get a chance to use my skills to help with articles to inform our members and partners on what UCLG ASPAC is doing. By interning at UCLG ASPAC, I hope to improve my writing skills, particularly my professional writing. I also hope to improve my research skills during my time here. Furthermore, I also hope to improve my knowledge of the role of local government in delivering programs and how it can help to meet global agendas such as the SDGs. I have spent most of my life in a rural area of Victoria, and I have a deep love for the area. I would love to learn how to contribute to improving the area, such as through encouraging tourism and economic development.
