Urgent Waste Problems facing Tokyo • Limit of final disposal landfill s ites for general waste • Large generation of industrial waste, including construction waste
• Attract leading –edge recycling facilities to Tokyo • Promoting the environmental industry
Tokyo Super Eco Town Project A project that congregates private industrial waste management and recycling facilities that have advanced technologies to waterfront areas along Tokyo bay to foster an environmental industry cluster. ( Date of commencement: April 2002)
< Role >
TMG (Tokyo Metropolitan Government) • Sell the TMG-owned land to private companies • Provide technical advice on environmental measures
Private companies • Construct and operate recycling facilities • Share their knowledge and operating know-how with the public and promote the use of their technologies.

Results of Tokyo Super Eco Town Project 2 Reduction of environmental load • Biomasses such as raw garbage and discarded wood are effectively used as fuel. • The surplus heat generated is also effectively used and food waste is recycled as animal feed.
Results of Tokyo Super Eco Town Project 3 Development of waste management and recycle business
• Tokyo Super Eco Town Council has been set up by businesses involved in the project, where they are cooperating to achieve zero-waste emission. • This project provides new business models.
Moving forward… • Improving the sophistication of this project (Further Cooperation and exchanging ideas) • Sharing recycling know-how (Public awareness : within Japan, overseas)
Prime Innovator to change Tokyo into a recycling based society!
Thank you very much for your kind attention!!
