Enhancing Communication with the European Union for Effective Development

Discussion session at the European Development Days, 7-8 of June 2017, Brussels.

POLICY Forum on Development held its regional Task Team meeting on 9th June 2017 in Brussels. Bringing together development actors from various stakeholders: Civil Society Organizations (CSOs), Local Authorities (LAs) as well as representatives from European Commission, this year’s PFD Task Team meeting brought up initiative and plan for the implementation in 2018. This meeting was also enriched with other insights gaining as it was conducted back-to-back with the European Development Days (EDD). Two events in a row began from 6 to 9 of June 2017. PFD expressed its concern for the creation of a more enhanced communication among its members. To establish better mechanisms for more effective and efficient dialogue that goes beyond its regular meeting, PFD has put in their priorities the creation of knowledge management. The objectives are closely related to the enhancement of communication within the PFD platform and bolstering members’ capacity to work as a group. The knowledge management also serves as a support to achieve the objective of PFD.

Attending the event, UCLG ASPAC was represented by its Secretary General, Bernadia Irawati Tjandradewi as the member of the Task Team of PFD. The Task Team members actively discussed the plans, exchanged views and perspectives that created the foundation on the birth of the innovative knowledge management idea. EDD, as its name suggests, was held as a celebration forum that introduces relevant development actors with insights gained from rich discussions and stimulated debates. Designed to address the vast coverage of ‘development,’ EDD packed substantial issues in the fruitful two-day sessions that not only bring up challenges faced but also provide potential solution through partnership and collaboration session held each day. The event also put best practices to higher level, by bringing up the success stories through unique project labs design that stimulated brainstorming among participants. The role of youth also gained special place in this forum. Youth creativities were given space throughout the first prime day of this event. PFD was introduced to the EDD’s attendants through its booth.
