School Nickname

“Bronchos” was the nickname selected for Central Oklahoma in 1922 by Mrs. C.W. Wantland, wife of long-time UCO football coach C.W. Wantland. The name was chosen from a number of suggestions for the name of UCO’s football team and became the nickname for all athletic teams at the school. Mrs. Wantland was made an honorary member of the Letterman’s Club as a result of selecting the nickname, becoming the first woman admitted to that organization.

School Colors

Bronze and blue were chosen as Central Oklahoma’s school colors early in the fall of 1895 by school president Edmund Dandridge Murdaugh. The first public display of the bronze and blue was in Guthrie when a student represented UCO in the first oratorical contest ever held in Oklahoma.

Head Coach David James

James graduated UCO with a bachelor’s degree in physical education in 1980 and spent one year as a UCO graduate assistant. David then served as an assistant coach at Edmond Memorial High School before becoming UCO’s ninth head coach in 1982. James ranks 12th on the school’s career win list with a 116-16 record. The Del City native was UCO’s first four-time All-American, finishing third as a freshman and second as a sophomore before winning back-toback NAIA national titles. He is a member of five hall of fames -- the NAIA Hall of Fame (1988), the UCO Athletic Hall of Fame (1991), the NCAA Division II Wrestling Hall of Fame (2005), the Oklahoma Chapter of the National Wrestling Hall of Fame (2007) and the Del City High School Hall of Fame (2008). David is married (Cherrie) and has two daughters (Hayden and Ryann).

Entering his third decade at the helm of the perennial powerhouse Central Oklahoma program is David James, one of the premier coaches at any level of collegiate athletics. He starts his 30th year as head coach with an amazing 341-120-5 dual record that ranks 40th in college wrestling history. James has directed the Bronchos to 12 national championships since taking over the reigns -- winning five titles in the 1980s, four in the 1990s and three in the 2000s -- and earned national Coach of the Year honors seven times. UCO has had 23 top-four national tournament finishes under James and the Bronchos have won 18 Division II regional titles in 22 tries. D.J., a four-time All-American and two-time national champion as a wrestler for the Bronchos, has coached 45 national champions and 169 All-Americans. James took control of the UCO program in 1982 and led the team to a fifth-place NAIA finish and 7-6 dual record that first year. The Bronchos asserted themselves the next year with a 11-5-1 dual finish and the first of four straight NAIA championships, winning by a 33-point margin. UCO romped to the national title by 53 3/4 points in 1985, and made it three straight in 1986 with a narrow 7 1/4-point victory. The Bronchos made it four in a row in 1987, taking the title by 20 3/4 points following a 12-5 dual season. The championship streak ended in 1988 with a narrow runner-up finish, but James took UCO back to the top in its final year with the NAIA in 1989 with a 13-point margin of victory. The Bronchos made the move up to NCAA Division II the next season and were runners-up in both 1990 and ‘91. The breakthrough season came in 1992 when UCO went 14-1 in duals and captured its first-ever Division II championship. The Bronchos won a second consecutive title in 1993 and made it three in a row in 1994 with an overwhelming 61 3/4-point victory. James led UCO to its fourth consecutive crown in 1995 as the Bronchos rolled up 148 points, the second-highest point total in NCAA Division II history. Central fell just short of a fifth straight title in 1996, finishing second by a narrow margin, and then was third in 1997. The Bronchos placed fourth in 1998 and then crowned two national champions in finishing third in 1999. Another runner-up finish followed in 2000 and the Bronchos tied for third in 2001 while going 13-2-1. UCO made it back on top in 2002, putting together a stellar 15-1 dual record and ending a six-year championship drought by crowning four individual champions in winning its 13th national team title. James and the Bronchos repeated as title winners in 2003, going 18-1 in duals and finishing with three individual champions. Central finished third in its bid for a third straight title in 2004. UCO had its 15-year string of Midwest Regional titles ended in 2005 en route to an 11th-place national tournament showing, but D.J.’s troops bounced back with a fourth-place national showing in 2006. The Bronchos captured their 15th title in 2007, following a 15-4 dual season with the Midwest Regional crown and a stirring national tournament performance in beating favored Nebraska-Kearney by 16 points. UCO was 14-6 in duals, won another regional title and finished sixth nationally in 2007-08 and went 11-6-1 with a regional runner-up finish and another sixth-place national showing in 2008-09. The Bronchos struggled to an 8-5 dual record and 15th-place national finish in 2009-10 and then finished 13th last year after going 15-4 in duals.

Assistant Coaches Jason Leavitt Former Central Oklahoma All-American Jason Leavitt is in his third year as a graduate assistant coach with the Bronchos. A three-year starter from 2005-08, Leavitt worked as an assistant coach at Ponca City High School in 2008-09 before coming back to UCO the following year to begin work on his master’s degree. Jason was a state champion as a senior at Ponca City and started his college career at Neosho (Mo.) Community College, earning sixth-place All-America honors as a freshman before transferring to UCO. He redshirted in 2004-05 after suffering an early-season knee injury and then started the next three years. Leavitt went 26-12 at 157 pounds as a sophomore in 2005-06 and was a national qualifier after finishing third in the Midwest Regional. Jason placed third in the regional again the next year and followed that with a national runner-up showing in finishing 33-8 and helping lead the Bronchos to the national team title. He beat the defending national champion en route to making the national finals before losing a 2-1 tiebreaker decision in the championship match. Leavitt was plagued by injury and illness as a senior in 2007-08 and went 20-15 while starting at 157 and 165. He finished his UCO career with a 79-35 record.

Dustin Finn Serving as a graduate assistant coach at Central Oklahoma for the second straight season is Dustin Finn, who ended his career with the Bronchos as the most decorated heavyweight in school history. Finn is UCO’s only three-time heavyweight All-American, finishing second twice and third once while ending his career with an 89-17 record that ranks ninth on the school’s all-time winning percentage list (.840). He’s also tied for fifth in career falls with 35. Dustin was a two-sport standout for the Bronchos, lettering four years in football and starting his last two years on the offensive line. He was the Lone Star Conference North Division Offensive Lineman of the Year as a senior in 2008 when he also played in the NCAA Division II all-star football game. Finn went 6-1 as a reserve heavyweight in 2006-07 and came back as a sophomore the next year to go 29-6 with 13 falls, winning the regional title and making it to the national finals before losing a 4-1 decision. Finn repeated as regional champion and national runner-up in 2008-09 while finishing 26-4 with 12 falls, dropping a close 6-4 decision in the championship match. He came back with a 28-6 campaign as a senior, coming in second in the regional and third in the national tournament after losing a last-second match in the semifinals. An All-State pick in both football and wrestling at Westmoore High School, Finn’s father (John in 1979) and brother (Chris in 2006) both earned All-America honors at UCO.

Coach James Says: “The big thing here is obviously we’re going to be really young. We’ve had some concerns at this weight and I like the guys we have here, but our job is to develop them and somebody is going to have to step up and take over.”

outh still abounds, but it’s more experienced now and Central Oklahoma is ready to get back in the running for the NCAA Division II national championship in 2011-12. Eight starters -- including seven national qualifiers -- are back from last year when the majority of the lineup consisted of freshmen and sophomores, with the Bronchos looking for the knowledge gained to pay big dividends this season. UCO is still young, with only one senior on the 35-man roster and up to five underclassmen expected to see starting duty, but 30th-year head coach David James is anxious to see his team step up and become a legitimate contender. “Our expectations are very high and I don’t know why in the world they wouldn’t be,” said James, who has led the Bronchos to 12 national championships and 341 dual wins during his legendary career. “A lot of it is, who develops? Who gets better every time they go out? “This group, with the experience and guys we can put in the lineup, they’re hungry to climb as high as they can climb. We should be in the trophy hunt. Now whether that’s first or fourth I don’t know, but we’re certainly looking for that to be first.” UCO put together a 15-4 dual campaign last season before finishing third in Super Regional II and 13th in the Division II Wrestling Championships. Several weights will be up for grabs this season as some individuals have shifted weights, while other contenders are coming back from redshirt years and a few newcomers Trison Graham look to make an impact. “Where we were last year in relying on freshmen and sophomores, they made strides but we were hoping for a little bit more,” James said. “Now we’ve really got to jump it up. There’s probably five weights where we’ll have to experiment and see how things go, maybe from event to event or month to month. There’s still a lot of unknowns and we’ll have some shake-ups.” Leading UCO’s hopes this season are a trio of returning All-Americans -- juniors Trison Graham and Kelly Henderson and sophomore Cory Dauphin. All return to the same weight they were at last year and will be looking to improve on their national tournament placing. Senior Jarrett Edison is a three-time national qualifer for the Bronchos and junior Tanner Keck has been to the national tournament twice, while junior Ky Corley and sophomore Cody Dauphin qualified last year. Besides the wealth of returning talent, another factor working in UCO’s favor will be having the Super Regional II Tournament at Hamilton Field House. The top-four placers at each weight in that event advance to the Division II Wrestling Championships. “Our team is excited to host the regional and we need to take advantage of that,” James said. “That’s the most important tournament of the year because you can’t do anything at nationals if you don’t get there, so having the regional at home is a big deal.” Here’s a weight-by-weight look at UCO for 2011-12:

133 Pounds

UCO is in great shape here with the return of All-American Trison Graham, who will miss the early part of the season while recovering from off-season shoulder surgery. Graham strung together a 17-match winning streak late last season en route to finishing 36-16 and took seventh at nationals despite wrestling with the shoulder injury. Last year’s success should lead to even more for this gritty, hard-working veteran who should be a national championship contender. Freshman Michael Williams enjoyed a stellar prep career and provides capable back-up assistance, with sophomore Austin McNall and rookie Blake Lam also here. Coach James Says: “We’re not going to start out with Trison like he wants to, but with the surgery he had we probably need to hold him out until the first of December as a precaution. He had a heckuva year last year and with that he just needs to take it to the next level. He’s a pure student-athlete and works for everything he gets. We’ve got some young guys who can help us here.”

141 Pounds

A former 125-pound starter is slated to move up two weights and earn the starting spot here, with the Bronchos expecting big things from sophomore Casy Rowell. Rowell won 31 matches as a true freshman at 125 in 2009-10 before redshirting last year and he’s looking to vie for All-America honors at what should be a great weight for him. Sophomore letterman Austin Quinton is also jumping up from 125 and provides quality depth along with Landon Segress. Junior Ky Corley is set to go at 149 but could come back down if needed. Coach James Says: “Casy had a great year as a freshman, but kind of fizzled out at the end with his weight. He’s found a weight where he feels comfortable and he’s gotten a little bigger. He’s been real excited about getting back in there after redshirting and I think he’s going to make some noise.”

149 Pounds

There appears to be a three-way battle for No. 1 at this weight, though junior Ky Corley is the front-runner to take over. Corley qualifed for the national tournament at 141 last year and has the size and strength to handle the bigger weight, but sophomores Ben Morgan and Kaleb Cradduck will push the issue. The scrappy Cradduck is also moving up a weight and showed a glimpse of what he can do during extended action last year, while Morgan will definitely be in the running when he becomes eligible the second semester after seeing part-time starting duty at 149 last season. Sophomores Clay Key and Ryan Rosales provide additional depth. Coach James Says: “We’ve got three good wrestlers here. Ky is

125 Pounds

The Bronchos will be extremely young here, with two true freshmen expected to be the main challengers for the starting job. Ryan Brooks was a three-time state champion and probably rates as the slight favorite over fellow rookie Tray Dorrell, though it may take awhile for one to emerge over the other. 8

2011-12 UCO Wrestling

2011-12 Season Outlook going to move up and he was a qualifier who didn’t place last year, hopefully that experience will help. He’s very strong, very fundamental and we need to keep him healthy. Cradduck is a scrappy young guy who you can’t count out and Morgan is very capable. We’ll have to see how things go.”

Junior Derrick Adkins can’t be overlooked, however. He won 30plus matches each of the past two seasons at 165 and was a national qualifier in 2010, so UCO knows what he’s capable of. Junior Rance Rue adds more depth. Coach James Says: “Kelly did us a terrific job here last year and he probably wasn’t a true 174 pounder. He’s very motivated to take that to the next level and worked hard in the summer to get his body a little bigger. I think he’ll do bigger and better things for us. Derrick has started for us for two years and had a disappointing post-season both times. He’s gotten a little bigger and we know what he can do, but Kelly’s going to be hard to knock out of there.”

157 Pounds

Sophomore All-American Cory Dauphin should rule the roost here, though he could face a stiff challenge from a redshirt freshman. Dauphin had a sensational rookie season, finishing 29-8 with 15 bonus-point wins while earning Super Region II Freshman of the Year honors before placing sixth at the national tournament. That success should only help this multi-talented youngster, who can score points in a hurry with his aggressive style. Colton Gallo can’t be discounted, with the talented redshirt freshman capable of big things if he can overcome a bothersome shoulder injury. Juniors Jordan Gibbon and Cody Salter are also here. Coach James Says: “Cory had a tremendous year as a freshman and he needs to take that and springboard forward. He’s hungry and knows more of what he’s up against now. Gallo is ready to get in there, but we have concerns about his shoulder and we’ll have to see how it all falls in place. Colton is going to have a great career at UCO, it’s just when that we don’t know.”

165 Pounds

184 Pounds

A two-time national qualifier returns and is the favorite to retain his position, but a couple of newcomers could make things interesting. Junior Tanner Keck went 32-15 in making his second straight national tournament appearance last season and is a legitimate All-America contender who has the talent and experience to be a mainstay for UCO. Sophomore transfers Zach Aylor and Chad Wright will both get a look and each has the ability to be a factor, while freshman Devon Keith adds more depth. Coach James Says: “We’ve got three really good kids here. Tanner’s a two-time qualifier who won a match at nationals last year, but he’s disappointing he didn’t place and needs to be motivated by those experiences. Wright is a rangy guy, kind of a brawler. Aylor is a sound, fundamental guy Kelly Henderson who works hard and can also be in there.”

Another weight that is crowded at the top, with a trio of contenders all fighting for the position. Sophomore Chris Watson may rate the slight edge over junior Ed Jackson and sophomore Eden Bernstein, but it’s too close to call and may be awhile before someone separates himself from the pack. Watson is brimming with potential, though he has seen limited mat time the past two years after redshirting and then missing the majority of last season to injury. Jackson didn’t compete last year after starting most of the 2009-10 season and is a versatile athlete, while the hard-working Bernstein saw extended duty as a true freshman before redshirting last year. Junior Derrick Adkins is slated to be a 174, but he started here the last two years and would obviously be in the running if he decides to drop down. Coach James Says: “Watson worked hard in the summer and did the right things, so he’s kind of the front-runner, but Bernstein and Jackson should be right in there. They’re all kind of veteran guys who have been around, but in a lot of ways they’re still young. We need one of them to step in there and take the position.”

197 Pounds

Once again the Bronchos will be leaning on veteran Jarrett Edison here and the lone senior on the team is poised to finish his career in style. A three-time national qualifier with 91 career victories to his credit, Edison has come up short each time in his bid for All-America honors but there’s no question this talented big man can be in the national championship hunt. Freshman Carson Mathews provides good depth. Coach James Says: “Jarrett’s been to the national tournament three times and hopefully this year is it. He’s got all the tools physically and he’s just got to believe in himself. I think he feels grateful he has a sixth year and he wants to get things turned around. And we need him to.”

Heavyweight

Sophomore Cody Dauphin is the main man at the end of the lineup and the returning national qualifier should get a big boost from last year’s success. Dauphin finished 29-16 with a team-high 11 falls while making tremendous progress throughout the season and he’s looking to be an All-America contender in 2011-12. Redshirt freshman Terry Williamson will join the team after football and can help here or 197 if needed, with junior letterman Keegan Hulsey also available.” Coach James Says: “Cody’s kind of like a lot of our guys in that he started as a freshman, got 45 matches in and got to nationals. Now he’s got to take it to the next level.”

174 Pounds

The Bronchos are looking for a returning All-American to be in charge here, although a two-year starter coming up a weight could have a say in things. Junior Kelly Henderson moved up from 165 during the season last year and was a clutch performer the second semester en route to finishing 32-15 with a sixth-place national showing. That success should propel him to even greater heights this winter as he looks to challenge for the national title. 9

UCO All-Americans In its 58 years of wrestling, Central Oklahoma has had 124 wrestlers earn All-America honors 224 times. Ten wrestlers have been four-time All-Americans, 19 have earned All-America recognition three times and 31 have been two-time honorees. Forty UCO wrestlers have been crowned national champion, with a total of 62 titles between them. Cole Province and Johnny Nimmo each won four national

crowns for the Bronchos and are part of an elite group of just 15 four-time national champions in all of college wrestling. The Bronchos have also had six wrestlers named the Outstanding Wrestler at the national tournament -- Todd Osborn (1981), Ronnie James (1982), Benny Coleman (1984), Nimmo (1987), Brian Melchiori (1994) and Province (2003). National Tournament History Central Oklahoma has long had one of the most successful wrestling programs in the nation, having claimed 15 national championships. President Dr. Don Betz Dr. Don Betz became Central Oklahoma’s 20th president in August 2011 after having previously served as UCO’s Provost and Vice President of Academic Affairs from 1999-2005, when he developed several initiatives and programs that have helped transform Central into one of the leading metropolitan universities in the nation. President Betz has enjoyed a distinguished career in higher education that spans more than 40 years, developing a reputation for teaching and encouraging students, leadership development and diplomacy through his international activities, most notably with the United Nations and its affiliated non-government organizations. Prior to returning to UCO, he served as president of Northeastern State, a post he held since July 2008. He also served as Chancellor at the University of Wisconsin-River Falls from 2005 until his appointment at NSU and as Provost and Vice President for Academic Affairs at Palmer College (Iowa) from 1994-1999. In the 23 years prior, he fulfilled various capacities at NSU, including the Vice President of University Relations and Professor of Political Science. While at NSU, he also was the Executive Director of the Educational Foundation, Assistant to the President, Dean of Continuing Education and Special Programs, Director of the Sequoyah Institute/Center for Tribal Studies, the founder and advisor of the university’s President’s Leadership Class and its Model United Nations program. From 1982 through 2003, President Betz worked for and with the United Nations on Middle East issues. He founded and chaired the International Coordinating Committee on the Question of Palestine (ICCP), a UN-affiliated non-governmental organization (NGO) network pursuing peace in the Middle East based on UN resolutions. A frequent writer and speaker, Dr. Betz has addressed international, educational, motivational topics, and has worked with newspapers, radio and television. His life-long interest in global issues and his passion for promoting cross-cultural understanding has led him to more than 80 countries. While president at NSU, he served as the chair of the Northeast Oklahoma Public Facility Authority, board member for BancFirst in Tahlequah, the Tahlequah Area Chamber of Commerce, Creative Oklahoma, Inc., and chair of the Regional University System of Oklahoma Council of Presidents. He is a member of the Oklahoma Academy, Leadership Oklahoma, Universities and Colleges President’s Climate Commitment, International Association of University Presidents and has served as Chairman of AASCU’s International Education Committee. President Betz received his B.A. in Political Science and Philosophy from the University of San Francisco and his M.A. and Ph.D. in International Studies from the Graduate School of International Studies at the University of Denver. He completed Harvard University’s Institute for Educational Management. 36

Athletic Director Joe Muller Now in his fourth year as athletic director at Central Oklahoma is Joe Muller, who brought a wealth of Division I experience to the position. Muller became just the seventh athletic director in school history when he took over the position in July of 2008 after previous stints in the athletic departments at Oklahoma State and Purdue. Joe served as senior associate athletic director for external relations at Purdue for two years before coming to UCO. He oversaw all facets of external relations while at Purdue, including development, marketing and promotions and the John Purdue Club. A graduate of Stillwater High School, Joe earned bachelor’s and master’s degrees from OSU. He served as director of athletic marketing and promotions at OSU from 1985-90 and then was involved in the television industry for more than a decade. Muller returned to Oklahoma State in 2002 as associate athletic director, serving in that capacity until going to Purdue. His duties at OSU included all development activities of the athletic department, including ticket operations, marketing and promotions and the OSU POSSE fund-raising operation. Under Muller’s watch, OSU raised over $90 million to renovate its football stadium, set football attendance records in 2003, ’04 and ’05 and had all-sport ticket revenues increase more than 115 percent. Joe is married (Julie) and has three sons (Jaxon, Brandon and Matthew).

The Central Oklahoma Athletic Media Relations Office is under the direction of Mike Kirk, whose main duty is to keep local, state and national media informed about UCO’s 14 varsity sports. Kirk is in his 25th year with the Bronchos, coming to UCO in November 1987. Mike was a student assistant in the sports information office at Oklahoma State University for four years, graduating OSU Mike Kirk in 1982 with a journalism degree. He was a sports writer at newspapers in McAlester and Lawton for five years before coming to UCO in 1987. An active member of the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA) who has served on several committees during his career, Kirk worked as the Press Information Manager for wrestling at the 1996 Olympic Games. He is in his second year as a member of the NCAA Wrestling Championships Committee. Kirk has received 56 CoSIDA publication awards at UCO, including 25 Best in the Nation citations. Mike is married (Debbie) and has two children (Alex and Jessica).

Athletic Administration Senior Associate Athletic Director Scott Williams Scott Williams is in his second year as Central Oklahoma’s senior associate athletic director, coming to Edmond in December of 2009 after a nearly five-year stint at Oklahoma State. Williams was associate athletic director for compliance at OSU for three years, overseeing the entire compliance program while also serving as tournament director for the 2008 NCAA Division I baseball regional and 2009 NCAA Division I men’s golf regional. He spent the previous two years at OSU as assistant athletic director for compliance, with the responsibility of seven varsity programs. Scott went to OSU after seven years as assistant athletic director for compliance at Oral Roberts. While at ORU, he was responsible for all compliance-related matters in addition to supervising eight varsity programs and coordinating all event management activities for home athletic events. A 1995 graduate of OSU, Williams earned his Juris Doctorate from the University of Oklahoma in 1998 and worked in the University of Kansas athletic department before going to ORU. Scott, a product of Deer Creek High School outside Edmond, is married (Tammy) and has four children (J.R., Matthew, Hannah and Luke).

Assistant Athletic Director/Business Tina Kurtenbach In her fifth year as the assistant athletic director for business is Tina Kurtenbach, who came to UCO from the University of Oklahoma. Kurtenbach manages more than 130 budgets in handling the day-to-day financial operations of the UCO Athletic Department while also taking care of human resource duties for athletics. Tina served as the financial accountant for the College of Medicine at OU before coming to Edmond. She previously worked in the Redlands Community College Athletic Department, in the bursar office for financial aid at Oklahoma State and as financial manager for the Broken Arrow High School Athletic Department. Kurtenbach received her associates degree from Redlands and her bachelor’s from Northeastern State. Tina is married (Dan) and has two sons (D.J. and Josh).

Athletic C0mpliance Darnell Smith

Athletic Compliance Collin Walker

Serving as Central Oklahoma’s Director of Athletic Compliance is Darnell Smith, who took over the position in June of 2010 after serving in the same capacity at the University of New Mexico. A native of San Antonio, Texas, Smith was a fouryear member of the Oklahoma State football team from 2002-06 at defensive end. He was a three-time recipient of the Arthur Ashe Scholar award at OSU and also earned second-team honors on the ESPN the Magazine Academic All-America Team. Darnell was named OSU’s Outstanding Senior and earned both his bachelor’s and master’s degrees from there. He served as a graduate assistant in the OSU compliance office in 2007-08 and worked as a management development trainee for the United States Olympic Committee from June 2008 to February 2009. Smith went to New Mexico in February of 2009 and was there until coming to UCO. He is married (Candace).

In his second year with the Central Oklahoma athletic department is Collin Walker, who serves as the director of compliance monitoring for the Bronchos. Walker worked as an intern for senior associate athletic director Scott Williams in the spring of 2010. He was also an intern for the Oklahoma City Thunder prior to earning his Juris Doctorate from Oklahoma City University in May, 2010. A native of Stillwater, Collin earned an associate’s degree from Central Christian College (Kan.) before going to Oklahoma State. He served as a manager for the OSU men’s basketball team from 2002-05 before earning his bachelor’s degree and then worked as a graduate assistant with the OSU team in 2006-07. He was also an intern in the OSU compliance office. Walker earned his master’s in sports science from the United States Sport Academy in Daphne, Ala. in 2007.

Athletic Marketing Brandon Baker

Gunnar Poff is in his third year with the Central Oklahoma Athletic Department, coordinating ticket sales for the Bronchos while also assisting in a host of other roles related to the game-day operations. A native of Sayre, Poff earned his bachelor’s degree in health and physical education from Southwestern Oklahoma in 2007. Gunnar was a pitcher on the baseball team while at SWOSU. He went on to earn a master’s of education in intercollegiate athletics administration in 2009 from the University of Oklahoma, working in the office of event management during his tenure with the Sooners. Poff is married (Tessa) and has two daughters (Presley and Piper).

In his first year with the Central Oklahoma athletic department is Brandon Baker, who is responsible for corporate sponsorships and marketing for athletic events on the UCO campus, working with local, regional and national businesses to create memorable experiences for both fans and sponsors. Baker spent the last 10 years with the Oklahoma City RedHawks in a variety of roles, including corporate sponsorships, baseball operations, game-day experience and ticket office manager. He spent two years prior to that with the West Tennessee Diamond Jaxx, a minor league affiliate of the Chicago Cubs. A native of Fulton, Mo., Baker attended the University of Missouri and was involved with the Mizzou chapter of Fellowship of Christian Athletes. Baker is married (Erin) and has two sons (Benjamin and Evan).

2011-12 UCO Wrestling

Hamilton Field House Central Oklahoma’s Hamilton Field House opened its doors in January of 1965, during which time the school’s wrestling program was shut down. UCO revived wrestling for the 1972-73 season and the Bronchos of Coach Jimmy Rogers wrestled their first match in Hamilton Field House on Dec. 8, 1972, drubbing North Texas, 53-2. Since then, UCO has compiled an impressive 177-57-2 record (.754 winning percentage) at Hamilton Field House. Current head coach David James has a 149-35-1 home record (.808) in 29 years at the helm and the Bronchos are 5211-1 (.820) over the past 10 years. UCO went a perfect 6-0 at HFH in 2010-11 and will enter the 2011-12 season with a six-match home winning streak. The Bronchos will host four duals and the NCAA Division II Super Regional II Tournament this season. It will be the fourth time for UCO to host a Division II wrestling regional (1993, ‘98, ‘04). Hamilton Field House underwent renovation in the summer of 2001, with individual chair-back seats installed on the floor. Capacity is 3,000. UCO hosted the NAIA National Wrestling Championships in Hamilton Field House in 1981 and ’84, with the Bronchos winning the championship both times. Central also hosted the 16-team NCAA Division II National Duals for five straight years, from 1995-99. Hamilton Field House was re-named from Broncho Field House on May 1, 1993 in honor of longtime UCO coach and athletic director Dale Hamilton, who helped design the building in the early 1960s. HFH also serves as the home facility for UCO volleyball and basketball. Numerous other events, including the university’s graduation ceremonies, are also held in the building.

Ted Anderson Wrestling Room The Ted Anderson Wrestling Room at Hamilton Field House is Central Oklahoma’s practice facility and ranks as one of the finest in NCAA Division II. Anderson was UCO’s first-ever national champion and a long-time avid supporter of the wrestling program. The Ted Anderson Wrestling Room was dedicated on Feb. 8, 1997 before UCO’s home dual with New Mexico. Ted, who passed away in 2003, captured the NCAA Division I title at 123 pounds in 1936 and followed that with a national runner-up finish at 126 pounds in 1937. Anderson was a three-time Oklahoma College Conference champion, winning in 1935, ’36 and ’37. A 1937 graduate of UCO, Anderson was a coach and teacher in the Edmond school system for 35 years. He was principal of Edmond Junior High and Mid-High for 20 years before retiring in 1976. Ted was named to the UCO Athletic Hall of Fame in 1991 and he received a Lifetime Service Award from the National Wrestling Hall of Fame in 1996.
