Eight tips for small business cash flow management Cash flow may be a key indicator of the financial health of your business. A consistent positive cash flow can help you pay expenses, invest in new opportunities, and grow your business. Get started with these tips: 1. Pay bills strategically. Paying all your business bills at the same time may drain your cash, and potentially jeopardize your relationships with suppliers if you are unable to pay. Instead, you may want to review bills, sort according to priority, and stagger payment dates so the most important bills — such as rent and payroll — are paid first. Payments that are less important and more flexible can be made later. 2. Choose the right payroll cycle. Structure your payroll to mesh with your revenue stream and comply with wage and hour laws. There may be a benefit to holding the cash to be paid less frequently than weekly (e.g., biweekly or monthly), provided applicable wage and hour law permits you to do so. Check with your state Department of Labor on the correct payroll frequency.
Positive cash flow is critical to your financial success. 3. Negotiate your payments with suppliers. Using suppliers with low prices may seem like a way to improve cash flow, but flexible payment options can be more important than bottom-shelf pricing. Ask your suppliers to offer extended payment terms so you can keep your cash longer. 4. Collect receivables quickly. Improve your cash flow by encouraging quick receivables. These techniques can help you collect receivables faster: • Request deposits when taking orders. • Offer discounted prices to move outdated inventory. • Offer discounts to customers who pay quickly.

5. Use technology to make and accept payments. Accepting online payments may allow you to collect receivables faster, and using electronic fund transfers to automatically pay bills on the last day they’re due may be helpful in managing cash flow. Technology should also help you keep track of where you stand. 6. Tighten credit practices. If you offer credit to customers, stand firm on your credit policies to make sure you get the cash you need. Possible strategies you may want to try: • Send invoices promptly, verify they’ve been received, and follow up right away on late payments. • Require a credit check for all new customers before extending credit. • Monitor your accounts to identify late-paying customers, and implement a cash-on-delivery policy for chronic offenders. 7. Use a business credit card. Consider using a business credit card to pay for everyday expenses. Also, you may want to seek rewards programs that can reduce your expenses, such as a certain percentage back on some purchases. 8. Consider a line of credit. Having a line of credit can help you prepare for anticipated and unanticipated cash shortages. It allows you to access a predetermined amount of cash quickly whenever you need it. Make the most of your cash by monitoring expenses, collecting payments quickly, and using resources that can make your cash flow management more convenient.

LETTER FROM SPONSOR WELLS FARGO HELPING BUSINESSES IN OUR COMMUNITY SUCCEED THANK YOU for your support of the Utah Hispanic Chamber. At Wells Fargo, we
have a long term legacy and tradition of helping Hispanic businesses in Utah and we are here to support your needs and financial goals. As one of the founding members of the Utah Hispanic Chamber, our support of the chamber and its mission to help foster entrepreneurship and small business growth goes back more than 25 years to 1991. Today, we remain dedicated to the chamber, consistently maintaining one of the highest levels of membership and community involvement. We are also an important part of the chamber’s convention. Our Wells Fargo Vision and Values state that our branches in Utah should be a reflection of the neighborhoods we serve. This commitment helps us better understand our customers in Utah, recognize opportunities, and succeed in serving the needs of our communities and business customers. Visit one of our many local branches across the state and you will be able to enjoy the diversity of our teams in each community, including a strong representation of team members with Hispanic heritage. We also have an active Latin Connection team member network that connects Wells Fargo employees with the Utah Chamber of Commerce at different networking and educational events. But our commitment to Hispanic small business is not limited to our wide branch network in Utah. We have assisted small business owners to develop, expand and grow their market share with educational seminars on Spanish-language digital marketing tools. We have also launched a Wells Fargo Works for small business website in Spanish to help Utah entrepreneurs start, run and grow the business of their dreams. We also have initiatives underway to help Hispanic businesses in Utah. Some examples include our diverse supplier program that is focused on Hispanic businesses, and our support of the Hispanic Scholarship Fund that grants business scholarships. We also have supported the USHCC Foundation by founding the Chamber Training Institute to train leaders at diverse chambers of commerce on key business and leadership topics for your benefit as members. There are thousands of Hispanic businesses in Utah and that number increases every day. According to data on the Utah Hispanic Chamber website, Hispanicowned businesses in Utah skyrocketed by 78% between 2002 and 2007 from 5,177 firms to 9,238. That is about three times faster than the 27.7 percent average growth for all firms in Utah in that period. Revenues of Hispanic-owned businesses in Utah grew by a hefty 136% during those five years, from $555 million a year to $1.3 billion. That’s an exciting impact in our state that Wells Fargo is proud to support and expand. On behalf of the thousands of Wells Fargo team members across Utah, we look forward to the having the honor of helping you and your company succeed financially. Together we’ll go far. PRESIDENT’S LETTER GIVING US THE OPPORTUNITY TO BE A PART OF YOUR SUCCESS. IT IS a pleasure to present the 2017 Utah Hispanic Chamber of Commerce Business Directory. We are very grateful to Wells Fargo and its team for sponsoring this publication and for the wonderful support given to our chamber and community throughout the years. With the support of Wells Fargo and other remarkable partners, the chamber continues to grow and remains one of the most influential and largest diverse business organizations in our state. With this growth, the chamber continues to produce worthy services for all its members in the Wasatch Front, including forty business events per year culminating with our annual convention. In between, we have a stout women’s business leadership imitative comprised of two conferences and a leadership breakfast; a powerful series of motivational business conferences in Spanish, networking luncheons, after-hour mixers, a focused business training course for start-ups and a series of powerful business workshops and seminars from marketing to technology to educate small business owners, entrepreneurs and corporate executives. The chamber has also improved its marketing and social media services to provide each one of you the best ROI possible. We have re-negotiated and brokered great deals with our media partners with your business in mind, from radio, newspapers to television; through our chamber, you can get great advertisement deals to promote your product. We have also created an amazing social media program to support and highlight your business, and partnered up with different local and national companies to save you money on travel, printing, insurance and office supplies amongst other things. Our scholarship foundation also continues to grow, last year the Somos foundation raised more than $250,000 for scholarships bringing the fundraising total to more than 2.5 million dollars since its inception; during this time, the foundation has benefited more than 700 scholars. We will continue to support this tremendous effort into the future, hoping to create even more educational opportunities for all those deserving scholars in our state. All these great things cannot happen without the generous contributions from our members, our corporate partners, the incredible team of chamber collaborators, volunteers, and our amazing board of directors. All of you play a fundamental role in the growth and success of our organization and business community. Lastly, I want to remind you that this publication was created with your success in mind. DIVERSITY FUELING CHEVRON’S ENGINE OF SUCCESS
CHEVRON BEGAN operating the Salt Lake Refinery in 1948 with a refining capacity of 17,000 barrels per day (BPD). Today, we refine around 53,000 BPD in order to supply a full range of transportation fuels to a broad spectrum of customers in Utah, including jet fuel, gasoline, and diesel. We are driven by our people and their commitment to getting results the right way – by operating responsibly, executing with excellence, applying innovative technologies, and capturing new opportunities for profitable growth. At Chevron, we are also committed to protecting the safety and health of our employees and contractors. In fact, we recently surpassed two years at the refinery without a recordable injury. At the same time, we invest in people to strengthen and develop a talented workforce in Utah that gets results the right way. Diversity is one of the cornerstones of our values, which we call The Chevron Way. As a core value, diversity is critical to developing a talented, high-performing workforce needed for ongoing business success. The 22

Chevron Way’s focus on people has helped establish a culture that attracts, develops and retains more diverse talent. The Chevron Way states: “We learn from and respect the cultures in which we work. We value and demonstrate respect for the uniqueness of individuals and the varied perspectives and talents they provide. We have an inclusive work environment and actively embrace a diversity of people, ideas, talents and experiences.” Inclusion goes beyond recognizing the uniqueness of each employee to realizing that our performance as a company is enhanced by the different perspectives they offer. Creative solutions and innovative technological advances are the result of allowing every team member to contribute their ideas and opinions. The concept of diversity is not limited to religion or race but extends to gender, age, and to any experience an employee has in her background that shapes her world view.
Stephanie Winter is an engineer at Chevron’s Salt Lake Refinery whose perspective is different from most of the other employees for two reasons. First, she is a woman working in an industry that is dominated by men. (Chevron is changing that and was recently honored with The Catalyst Award for efforts related to attracting, retaining, developing, and advancing women in our workforce.) Secondly, she has a Hispanic heritage of which she is very proud. It is not unusual for her to look around and realize that not only is she the sole woman in the room, but also the only person that is a native Spanish speaker. Stephanie is a soft spoken woman who received a Chemical Engineering B.S. from the University of New Mexico in 2007. She began working for Chevron in 2008 at our refinery in Richmond, California. Stephanie and her siblings are the first generation in her family born in the United States and the first to attend college. Her parents, from Ecuador and Colombia, are pleased that she speaks Spanish at home so that her young son will also be bilingual. Actually, her husband’s Spanish speaking is improving, too! Chevron has leveraged her language skills by seeking her help translating documents. When the Salt Lake Refinery hosted a community tour day, Stephanie was able to answer questions for our Spanish speaking guests. She has even presented in Spanish at the Rose Park Elementary School in Salt Lake City.

STEPHANIE WINTER is an engineer at Chevron’s Salt Lake Refinery she was recently honored with The Catalyst Award for efforts related to attracting, retaining, developing, and advancing women in our workforce.
While she was in college, Stephanie attended an event hosted by the Society of Professional Hispanic Engineers (SPHE). She was inspired when she saw so many successful people with backgrounds similar to hers, including women, who had chosen to pursue engineering careers in a wide variety of industries. She found a mentor within SHPE who helped her to set goals beyond what she could have imagined on her own. Now, Stephanie is the role model working with the Professional SHPE chapter doing outreach in the local Hispanic community. Stephanie is impressed with the commitment Chevron has to moving women into management positions throughout the organization. In fact, in March of this year, a woman named, Mitra Kashanchi, became the Refinery Manager for Salt Lake. By respecting the unique talents, experiences, and perspectives of members of our workforce, like Stephanie, we gain the flexibility and ingenuity that help us excel. Chevron’s Salt Lake Refinery is fortunate to have an engineer who happens to be a woman and Hispanic that is committed to promoting diversity by expressing her opinions, sharing her ideas, and motivating those around her to do the same.

CRITICAL TO building a better McDonald’s is a belief and commitment to being America’s Best First JobTM. Whether potential candidates are looking for a first job, going through college, finding a flexible way to fill the day while children are at school, or climbing the career ladder, McDonald’s and its independent franchisees are proud of the jobs offered in the restaurants as they help people achieve their dreams. By offering industry-leading education and world-class training, McDonald’s and its independent franchisees provide opportunities to inspire confidence and foster valuable skills to help restaurant employees thrive wherever they are on their journey, whether they stay at their local McDonald’s or go elsewhere. All McDonald’s restaurants in Utah are locally owned and operated. Throughout the state, the 26 men and women franchisees who own and operate McDonald’s restaurants work to do the right thing in their communities, serving quality food, building a stronger community, and investing in the people they employ. In April, 2015 McDonald’s announced the expansion of the education program called Archways to Opportunity to eligible franchised restaurant employees. Archways to Opportunity, a comprehensive continuing education strategy meets people where they are on their education journey – whether that’s finishing high school, earning a college
degree, or even learning English. “We were excited to offer access to education to as many of our employees as we could, wherever they are in their personal journey,” said Chris Sparrer-Baer, who along with brother Rob Sparrer and father Chuck Sparrer own and operate 29 McDonald’s restaurants along the Wasatch Front, employing nearly 1,500 people. “This year, we wanted to take things a step further in our restaurants and take charge of getting the word out,” said Sparrer-Baer. “We looked for someone who was passionate about helping people further their education and potential.” That someone in their organization was Armando Frausto, an area supervisor. Frausto, who has worked with McDonald’s since 1987, moved to Utah from California in 2013 to be closer to family and two of his children attending the University of Utah. “I love helping the younger generation see what opportunities are available for them through McDonald’s,” said Frausto.
As an area supervisor, Armando Frausto oversees 5 restaurants in addition to the Archways to Opportunity program and its responsibilities.

Guau.”

FROM HARDSHIP IN COLOMBIA TO BUSINESS SUCCESS IN THE U.S. AN ECLECTIC STORY OF ACHIEVEMENT AND PROSPERITY
JOHN ROBLEDO-DUNN grew up in an impoverished town of Pereira, Colombia, living a borderline destitute, early upbringing. By the time he was an adolescent, he received a visit from his sister-in-law along with Richard & Deon Dunn, a married couple from Brigham City Utah. The Utah family outstretched their generous hand and eventually adopted him at the age of 16, after finding out the condition in which he was living in and were able to heal his medical needs upon arrival to the U.S. The affinity for working within the healthcare industry began when Robledo-Dunn started recognizing the health conditions of his community in Colombia since he was a child, and due to his adoptive father, Richard Dunn, who had spent time as a physician. Living with the Dunn family and observing their work made him realize the, “impact they had on the community and the joy that they had as a family as professionals in doing so,” said Robledo-Dunn, realizing he, as well, “wanted to do something similar.” Robledo-Dunn attended The University of Utah along with The University Cartagena in Cartagena, Colombia, and received his degree in Pharmacology then proceeded to practice within the industry for nearly 20 years. As he participated in different businesses, and engaged in several projects for pharmacies, he later became an EMT, furthering his passion for medicine. In 1990, Robledo-Dunn was on track to completing his twoyear LDS Church mission when he entered a red-tape scenario with immigration and was put in potential deportation status. Placing his education on a pause intervened with the regulations in place by his I-20 visa, risking his possibility of staying in the United States. “I came trapped into the red tape that we see today,” explained Roblero-Dunn, “I became out of status and it was very challenging.” Residing in a state of limbo, Robledo-Dunn experienced a circumstance of oblivion similar to those undocumented and unable to reap typical benefits. Eventually, his status was resolved and Robledo-Dunn was able to keep his stay in the U.S. Knowing there were many opportunities for him while still recognizing his position of power and being able to view his community from both sides, he understood the fear and certainties within and did not want others to feel that way. This revealed a consumer base in need that was being ignored or under maximized. Those who are “under insured, cash paying customers… underserved or taken advantage of” according to Robledo-Dunn, were mainly comprised of a Hispanic population that needed a different type of attention. Robledo-Dunn committed to helping those who were not 36

getting adequate, consistent care, aiming to achieve special and unique work for the community. In doing so, he created a business plan aimed to succeed that keeps the Hispanic populous in mind while having it be beneficial for the community at the same time. Injury Care Solutions (ICS) was created in order to support the community. It now provides similar resources as a health care clinic, granting timely and consistent medical attention at no cost–depending on your claim from your incident–bridging the gap of care that can arise due to a lag in lack of payment from parties. An attorney assists with the claim, they obtain the bills and then ultimately have the party at fault pay for the damages. ICS can serve those who are uninsured or those with insurance but pay a huge amount for their copay. “What’s typical about entrepreneurs is trial and error,” Robledo-Dunn said, “Trying and trying, there’s usually more failures. That builds character.” Previous to ICS, being a nearly 6-year-long co-owner of Karamba, a renowned dance club located in the Sugar House neighborhood of Salt Lake City kept him occupied. “How can I be successful yet be very conscious of individuals, and mindful,” said Robledo-Dunn, “I wanted to hopefully achieve something some very unique, a social and economic footprint is something to be proud of, to be of great service.” Injury Care Solutions is one of the fastest growing Hispanicowned businesses in Utah, proudly assisting over 3500 customers per year, bridging the gap and uniting the industries involved in order to delivery satisfactory attention to patients. ICS is currently expanding exponentially, and Robledo-Dunn plans to practice and grow nationwide. For more information on Injury Care Solutions call (801) 327-9696 or visit injurycaresolutions.com

PEOPLE’S HEALTH CLINIC: SAVING THE LIVES OF THE UNINSURED “Every person in our community deserves healthcare, whether they have health insurance or not” “LILLY” HAD worked in Park City as a housekeeper for more than 25 years. She lived in a small apartment and, even though her family was far away, she had made a life for herself and was happy. Then she started to notice the joints in her hands began swelling. They were sore. And, as each day went by, the pain became worse. Stiffness in her hands persisted and didn’t go away, making it difficult for her to do her job. But what was she to do? She didn’t have health insurance. She couldn’t afford to go to the doctor and she wasn’t about to visit a hospital emergency room. So she endured the pain and carried on.
The Clinic is open Monday through Friday: Monday: 8 a.m. - 1 p.m. Tuesday: 9 a.m. - 8 p.m. Wednesday: 8 a.m. - 5 p.m. Thursday: 8 a.m. - 6 p.m. Friday: 9 a.m. - 1 p.m. Spanish interpreters are also available.

What she didn’t know was she had rheumatoid arthritis (RA), an autoimmune disease where the body’s immune system mistakenly attacks the joints, causing inflammation and pain. Without treatment, inflammation can damage cartilage and cause deformity, and individuals can lose mobility in their hands. “Lilly” continued to clean homes but after months of ongoing pain, she could no longer continue. She could barely dress herself in the morning. Without being able to work, she didn’t have money to pay rent and became homeless, living in her car. Then, something wonderful happened. She met a lady
who had been a patient of People’s Health Clinic – a no cost medical clinic that provided medical care to uninsured residents of Summit and Wasatch Counties. “Lilly” made an appointment at the Clinic. She was seen by Dr. John Hanrahan, the Clinic’s founder and medical director, who diagnosed her with RA, gave her a prescription, and helped her back to wellness. “The Clinic saved my life,” said Lilly. She has been coming to People’s Health Clinic ever since, is now working again and has a home. Founded in 2000 in a mobile health van, People’s Health Clinic’s first health fair was held at Park City High School, where more than 700 people showed up to receive care. The need continues to grow and in 2016 the Clinic received over 9000 patient visits. The Clinic is located just down the street from the Intermountain Park City Hospital in Quinn’s Junction and shares a home with the Summit County Department of Health. A volunteerdriven nonprofit organization dedicated to providing quality healthcare at no cost, the Clinic utilizes 150 volunteers and a small staff of employees.

The receptionists, medical providers and volunteers either speak Spanish or have volunteer interpreters. Services provided include chronic illness, primary care, dental, pediatrics, prenatal, vision, well-child, and women’s health. The only service the Clinic does not provide is Emergency Care. All medical providers are licensed. “Every person in our community deserves healthcare, whether they have health insurance or not,” said Beth Armstrong, executive director of People’s Health Clinic. “Regardless of where you are from, your economic status or ethnicity, we are here for you.” The Clinic also offers a variety of other services: education classes on diabetes management, providing training on how to keep blood sugars under control, as well as prenatal classes, since many of the pregnant women who come to People’s Health Clinic have never seen a doctor before. Freescreening mammograms are also offered for women over 40 years, in addition to referrals to social and job services. CLÍNICA DE SALUD POPULAR: (PEOPLES’S HEALTH CLINIC) por sus siglas en inglés SALVAR LAS VIDAS DE LOS QUE NO TIENEN SEGURO.
“
