Friday Night Lights
Seinors walk onto the field together one last time in their high school career By Jenna Hamilton
As they enter onto the field for the very last time in their high school career under the lights on a Friday night, they keep their heads held high. Not giving up and not backing down, the seniors refuse to loose their last game. Senior Jay Abernathy leads the seniors off into a huddle and begins the chant, “ we will not loose, we will not give up, and tonight is our night to shine. WE will become the champions tonight; WE will not let our fans be disappointed in us. All the hard work we have done for the last past two months we will put it in this game tonight,” said Abernathy. In the huddle all the boys agreed and shook their heads, with a “1,2,3 Xavier” chant to break up the group they head off into their positions. The game the seniors and juniors played was not easy, with several drops of sweat streaming down their bodies the Wolves finished their high school football season with an 13-0 score. They carried the title home and became champions. “I am so grateful to have been able to coach these amazing boys, they truly worked hard until they got what they wanted, and they did not give up once. I will miss my seniors a lot, but now it is time for the juniors to step up next year and show what they got,” coach Rick Curtis said. As fans fill the stands with cheers of excitement over the state championship win, they begin to walk onto the field congratulating each and ever football player. Tears of pure happiness come rolling down all the players’ faces; they were in such disbelief and to what had just happened. They could not believe it; they finally carried the title of state champions for their school in over 3 years. “This is definitely and unforgettable season that we will always remember,” Captain Michael Rooks said.
Senior Brad Smith stands on the field thinking of the next move he is about to make to help the team score one last time. “Once I get into my position, a lot of adrenaline is running throguh me. Once i hear the QB say hike, i take off in full speed ready to catch the ball,” Junior Timothy Green said.
