Results from the 2023 Personal Health Assessment (8,448 participants)
53.6% identify that they are thriving. 1
44.9% identify that they are struggling.
1.5% identify that they are suffering.
The PHA data suggests that individuals who are thriving tend to engage in healthy behaviors and are less impacted by barriers to productivity. To support the well-being of all faculty and staff members at the University, we offer programs that cater to individuals at all stages of the well-being journey.

Financial stress for faculty and staff has increased 9% over the past three years. In 2023, 38% of PHA respondents identified that financial stress impacts their ability to be fully present at work. Programs and services that support financial well-being continue to be a priority to address campus well-being.
EMERGENCY HARDSHIP FUND
For three years, our Emergency Hardship Fund has provided financial assistance to employees facing unexpected personal hardships. This fund offers immediate relief for emergencies like medical issues, natural disasters, or unexpected family crises. This support reduces stress, improves well-being and morale, and fosters a positive, productive work environment. Beneficiaries of the fund report a deeper connection to the University of Iowa.

UI EMPLOYEE ASSISTANCE PROGRAM (UI EAP)
The UI Employee Assistance Program (UI EAP) has supported our campus since 1970. UI EAP embraces the no reason too small philosophy for the 20,000+ UI employees by providing individual, relationship and family support as well as educational and financial programs. UI EAP is proud to partner with the UI Support and Crisis Line to respond to referrals as well as Wellmark’s Doctor on Demand program to meet all the needs of UI's extensive campus.

This new collaboration with Iowa City CommUnity Crisis Center, Office of the Provost, and the Division of Student Life brings 24/7 crisis support to all of campus. Since January 2024, faculty and staff have had access to trained crisis counselors familiar with University of Iowa resources. By calling or texting 844-461-5420 employees can receive immediate support and referrals. When we don’t know where to turn, the UI Support & Crisis line is there: days, evenings, weekends, 24/7/365.

I helped them call the UI Support and Crisis line, where they immediately received professional assistance and created a support plan. HEALTH & WELL-BEING: 2024 RESOURCE GUIDE
To support faculty and staff access to well-being programs, the Health and Well-Being Resource Guide was developed to provide simple navigation to meaningful well-being programs. Since launch in January 2024, we have shared over 7,000 copies of the Resource Guide (4,800 hard copies and 2,200 digital views).
