AGILITY

Dual Credit

AGILITY is a University-wide initiative that fosters innovation and supports entrepreneurial ideas across all Faculties and disciplines. If your students are curious, optimistic and constantly questioning how things can be done better, AGILITY provides programming, creative spaces and funding to develop their budding ideas.

A first-of-its-kind partnership between uLethbridge and Lethbridge School District No. 51, the dual credit helps high school students prepare for the transition to postsecondary studies. Dual credit allows students to take university courses as part of their usual high school schedule, earning credits at both the high school and post-secondary level.

Audition Required for Admission to BMus Music Major and pre-BMus/BEd

General Admission Deadlines

Effective May 2016, applicants to the Bachelor of Music with a major in music and the Pre-BMus/BEd degree programs must successfully audition to be considered for admission. Previously, applicants could be admitted without auditioning, but were unable to register for music studio courses until they completed a successful audition.

Bachelor of Health Sciences – Aboriginal Health

The general admission undergraduate application and document deadlines have changed. Students now have until June 30 to apply to most undergraduate programs. Also, the deadline to submit final official documents for general admission has been moved back, giving students more time to finish pre-requisite high school courses.

Global Citizen Cohort

Students will gain the practical skills and theoretical knowledge needed for work in the field of Aboriginal health. Major topics include: Traditional Aboriginal health concepts, contemporary issues in Aboriginal health, community development, nutrition and cultural issues.

We live in a global society with complex problems and the world needs people who think critically and responsibly. Our Global Citizenship student cohort offers a unique opportunity for students in the Faculty of Arts & Science to connect some first-year courses around a common theme while interacting with a group of like-minded students. Students in this small group of curious and motivated students will enjoy an enhanced first-year university experience.

Changes to Admission for Public Health Majors

Minor in Agricultural Enterprise Management

The Bachelor of Health Sciences with a major in public health will only accept applicants for the fall semester. Due to the success of the program, admission to the public health major is now competitive.

This minor will familiarize students with agricultural enterprises and provide a comprehensive view of this key sector of our economy. If they are interested in starting their own agribusiness or working within the industry, this minor will expose them to functional areas of management such as supply chain, finance and sales, as well as enterprise opportunities like entrepreneurship and visual analytics.

Post-Diploma Bachelor of Health Sciences (Calgary Campus) Public Health major, Health Leadership minor This new two-year program builds on your existing health or human-services diploma to give students the skills needed to pursue a career in front-line management. Applicants to the post-diploma Bachelor of Health Sciences must hold an approved diploma in health or human services from an approved college.

Pre-Professional Transfer Program in Engineering With a carefully designed package of courses to give your students a great start to their engineering program, they will complete the first year of their engineering degree at uLethbridge. Upon successful completion of their courses, they will transfer seamlessly to the engineering program at University of Alberta or the University of Saskatchewan. While our Pre-Professional Transfer Program in Engineering has been designed for transfer to either the U of A or U of S, the courses they take at uLethbridge may transfer to engineering programs at other postsecondary institutions as well.

Student Professional Development Program (PDP) Students in the Faculty of Management have the opportunity to participate in PDP. They will develop leadership skills to give them a competitive advantage once they graduate from uLethbridge. By taking part in workshops, industry-networking events, academic competitions and student clubs, students in PDP experience incredible personal and professional growth.

Required vs. Recommended Courses Certain high school courses, although not specifically required, are recommended because either: (1) the course is recommended background for one or more courses required in the major; or (2) completion of the course will allow students more options when choosing major requirements. Visit the online version of this chart at ulethbridge.ca/ross/hs_prereqs/ program/all to access specific information regarding why a particular high school course is recommended.

Admission Requirements vs. Prerequisite Requirements The courses given for each program (with the exception of Pre-Professional Transfer Program in Engineering, programs in the Faculty of Health Sciences, and programs in Management) are NOT required for admission purposes but are necessary to meet prerequisite requirements for courses in the program. See also Programs that Require Mathematics at ulethbridge.ca/ross/hs_prereqs/math/math_requirements.

As early as their first year, students can work alongside leading researchers as they push the boundaries of creativity and discovery – an opportunity often reserved only for graduate students at other institutions. Regardless of their major, whether they plan to go on to graduate studies or begin a professional career, being involved in research as an undergraduate will help students stand out from the crowd when they graduate.

11

additional Admission Routes Home School Applicants Degree Holders Applicants who have completed, with satisfactory grades, one or more academic degrees from a recognized university, will be considered for admission to a second degree program at uLethbridge. To be eligible for consideration, the declared uLethbridge program/major must be dissimilar from any degree already completed. Second degree program requirements are individualized for each student. Courses completed during a student’s first degree, as well as those completed after, may affect the program content and/or reduce the number of courses required to complete subsequent degrees. Please contact an academic advisor in the appropriate Faculty for more information.

Applied and Technology Degrees

Applicants presenting applied or technology degrees from recognized colleges or technical institutes in Canada with GPAs of 2.0 or higher on the uLethbridge 4.0 GPA scale are guaranteed admission to first degree, undergraduate non-quota programs. These applicants will be considered for admission to quota programs according to their qualifications as transfer students. By this means, an applicant will be considered for admission who presents final grades in five distinct subjects. A high school applicant from British Columbia should challenge the provincial examinations in courses where such examinations exist to provide grades in the subjects challenged. An applicant will be considered for admission who presents final grades in five distinct subjects. Students register in courses online, starting on their registration date, using the Bridge (ulethbridge.ca/bridge).

Timeframe | Registration for the fall semester typically starts during the end of April. Students who have been offered admission will normally receive registration information from us by email in mid-April. A student can register on or after their assigned date, but earlier registration is better for course selection. General Liberal Education Requirement (GLER) | All uLethbridge students must complete the general liberal education requirement (GLER). This involves taking at least four courses from three different areas: fine arts and humanities, social sciences, and sciences. The required courses in a student’s program typically fulfill some of the GLER requirement, so the program planning guide, timetable, and uLethbridge Academic Calendar should be used to determine which additional GLER courses should be taken. Refer to the current uLethbridge Calendar at the end of Part 4 – Academic Regulations for more information. The Academic Calendar is available online (ulethbridge.ca/ross/academic-calendar). Registration Date | This is the first day students can log on to the Bridge to add courses to their class schedule. Registration continues until the end of the first week of classes.

ULink ULink is our student portal. Students will need to log on to uLink to access their admission status, update contact information, register for courses, and more. If you need to help a student setup a Campus Login: They need their nine-digit uLethbridge ID number (from their offer of admission) available. Go to www.ulink.ulethbridge.ca for login set-up Follow the steps to select a username, password and security questions. They will use this username and password to log in to the ULink as well as many other important tools at uLethbridge, including the Bridge, email, library account and Moodle.

On-campus Housing The University of Lethbridge offers a wide variety of on-campus living options, from single rooms to shared apartments. Students who join us direct from high school or who take less than one year off between high school and university are considered New University students. New University students can apply online to stay in traditional-style dorms in University Hall (UHall), or one-, two- or four-bedroom apartments in Aperture Park. These are fully furnished with a bed (with captain’s storage space), a desk and storage for clothing. Satellite television, wireless internet and all utilities are included. They also include common areas where students can meet up with friends, play video games, watch movies and unwind.

New University students living in residence are required to purchase a dining plan, as they may be living away from home for the first time. This ensures first-year students have access to nutritious food with minimal effort. ulethbridge.ca/housing housing@uleth.ca 403-329-2584

Housing Deadlines Students are advised to apply as early as possible to improve their chances for accommodation. Newly admitted applicants, who apply before April 1, will have their names entered into an accommodation lottery. Approximately 75% of the allocated beds will be randomly selected. The names drawn will be guaranteed accommodation prior to May 15.

Off-campus Housing To help students who choose to live off campus, uLethbridge maintains an off-campus housing registry that provides a range of off-campus housing opportunities such as room and board, shared suites and apartments available for rent in the Lethbridge area. This list has excellent community support and is frequently updated. The list may be accessed online or received via fax, mail or email. ulethbridge.ca/offcampushousing offcampus.housing@uleth.ca 403-329-2092

They can also guide students to local services or agencies which may be of assistance. Special equipment or specialized services frequently must be funded through agencies outside uLethbridge. This is a free, confidential service for students who self-identify as First Nations, Métis, or Inuit.
