As a drama student, you’ll study theory and criticism, performance and production. You’ll also participate in a series of major theatre productions annually, ensuring you get ample real-life theatre experience. You’ll also delve into theatre history and literature, studying renowned playwrights and their works within the context of time, place and social circumstance.

With both theoretical and practical opportunities, you will learn to be imaginative, flexible, adaptable and creative, grooming you for entrance into the entertainment industry, graduate studies and numerous other professions. The Play’s the Thing. The University of Lethbridge has two performance series: Mainstage and TheatreXtra. With eight productions annually, you’ll have numerous opportunities to put your new knowledge to the test, whether you are performing, building sets and designing costumes, or stage managing. During four years of study, you’ll see and work on a wide range of historical periods, genres and theatrical approaches. The Centre for the Arts. The Centre for the Arts houses three performance spaces: a flexible production studio, the ‘black-box’ David Spinks Theatre and the main University Theatre — complete with a fly gallery. Numerous rehearsal rooms, a well-equipped costume shop and lab, lighting lab, property and scene shops, a recording studio and blue-screen room make our facilities among the finest in the country. Student Clubs, Activities and the Art Community. The Theatre Arts Society organizes student activities including Twoonie Theatre and social events. The Musical Theatre Society is for those interested in singing, acting and dancing, while The Improv Club teaches you to act on your feet. Lethbridge also boasts an active cultural community, with several theatre groups and the professional New West Theatre. Theatre & Dramatic Arts Degrees. The University of Lethbridge offers two routes for those wanting to pursue a degree in theatre & dramatic arts — the BA route through the Faculty of Arts & Science and the BFA route through the Faculty of Fine Arts. Whatever degree you choose, you can rest assured that you will study with accomplished experts across a wide range of theatrical areas, including acting, directing and technical professionals. There are numerous degrees you can complete in the major through the two faculties: Bachelor of Arts (BA), Bachelor of Arts & Sciences (BASc), Bachelor of Arts/Bachelor of Management (BA/BMgt), Bachelor of Arts/Bachelor of Education (BA/BEd), Bachelor of Fine Arts (BFA), Bachelor of Fine Arts/Bachelor of Education (BFA/BEd), Post-Diploma Bachelor of Fine Arts (BFA) (after a 2 or 3-Year Diploma)

Co-operative Education
The Faculty of Arts & Science is proud to offer you the chance to participate in our co-op program — the only one of its kind in Alberta to offer co-op to all majors in arts and science. Research & Independent Studies
In addition to your regular courses, you have the opportunity to participate in Independent Studies. You’re able to contribute to departmental activities by volunteering on research projects or through employment as a research assistant. If your GPA is high enough, you can also enrol in undergraduate thesis-based courses where research is a component of your studies. There are field school opportunities available in some disciplines, as well as many opportunities to study abroad.
