Management 1000 mini-lecture | 11 to 11:30 a.m. Location: M1060 Description: Do you know what the difference is between business and management? Whether you think they are the same, or not; come sample Management education by participating in our 1st-year introductory course called “Introduction to Management.” You will be engaged in learning by participating in a 20-minute mini-lecture, followed by a question and answer period with a Management faculty member who enjoys regularly teaching Management 1000. Experiential learning opportunities in Management 11:30 a.m. Location: M1060 Description: In our Management programs, students have the chance to participate in a wide variety of experiential learning activities outside of the classroom, which are specifically designed to build on and enhance the learning student’s engage with inside the classroom. This session will highlight a few experiential learning options, such as: PDP - The Faculty of Management Student Professional Development Program (PDP) offers opportunities for students to further develop, free of charge. competitions, our annual conference (small fee charged for this event), and there is funding available upon application to take part in external activities. Co-operative Education - Management co-operative education (co-op) is an optional, value-add program offering Management students unique opportunities, developmental support, and workintegrated learning experiences relating to their field of study. Co-op assists students in successfully transitioning to the work world after graduation. Once accepted into the program, students receive job preparation workshops and support as they apply for co-op jobs with the goal of being hired for paid semesters of full-time employment with one of our great co-op employers. IME - In our Integrated Management Experience courses (12 credits = 4 courses), students are exposed to the most current management industry practices via a highly interactive learning environment. In the four IME classes that 3rd-year students enroll in over 2 terms, students learn about management theories and their practical business applications, engage with guest speakers, and case work. IME students work on a live project for a local, not-for-profit organization to resolve a real-time problem they are facing, and help them determine and create the appropriate solution(s). Trading Room simulation | 12:30 p.m. to 1 p.m. Location: M2044 Description: Visit the University of Lethbridge’s state-of-the-art Centre for Financial Market Research and Teaching, the first of its kind in an academic setting in Western Canada. Attendees will be introduced to the fundamentals of trading and market microstructure and have an opportunity to experience the room in action as we turn it into its own marketplace. Participants will trade commodities such as oil and gas against each other and will experience the effect changes in supply and demand can have on prices.
