WELCOME Welcome to the hot summer edition of Ultimate Almeria Magazine. The world cup has kept us all interested over the last few weeks but with England and Spain going out early the interest has somewhat waned. But for all you ardent footy fans there are plenty of bars in the area that will be showing the closing stages and the final on July 12th. For everyone else now is the time for barbecues, beaches, swimming and sunbathing so get yourself along to your latest beach and beach bar and enjoy the relaxed atmosphere in the wonderful weather. With the visitors arriving in their droves all the bars and restaurants should be busy so if you are going out to eat then look up the number in the gourmet guide and if you are a restaurant not in it please email me below to be included in the next edition. It is now 100 years ago since World War 1 started so we have an article in this edition to remember the many sacrifices that were made in the “war to end all wars unfortunately this never happened. We have some reviews on some books to help with the outdoor cooking this summer and an article on the upcoming Commonwealth games. I hope you enjoy this edition and for all you businesses who wish to profile your company the next edition is due out in September. These 3 books will help with any barbecue or outdoor meals now that the hot summer is with us.
Weber’s Complete Barbeque Book by Weber
Delia’s Summer Collection by Delia Smith
The Mans Book of the BBQ Brendan McGinley
We all love to get the barbecue out on a hot summer’s day and enjoy some downto-earth al fresco dining, but why restrict ourselves to only one season in the year?
This is a celebration of summer and all its glorious ingredients - Delia has distilled the essence of summer into a book that brings the sun into the kitchen whatever the weather.
Cooking’s for girls, but there’s nothing wussy about a BBQ. It’s full on, flame-on, macho cooking in a comedy apron. It’s cooking the way God intended...just man, nature, red meat, a beer in one hand and oversized tongs in the other.
This comprehensive guide shows you how to cook food the Weber way to get the most from your grill throughout the year, and contains everything the avid barbecue enthusiast needs to know. Enjoy over 150 delicious triple-tested recipes for meat, poultry, seafood, vegetables and fruit, as well as invaluable ideas for rubs, marinades and sauces. You will also find expert answers to common questions about barbecuing, plus tips and advice on safety, upkeep, fuel and lighting methods. From simple kebabs to elaborate rotisseries, a grilled cheese salad or a tasty fruit pudding, Weber’s Complete Barbecue Book is packed with an extensive range of delicious recipes for all-year-round barbecuing.
these books are available online from Amazon. 12
From early May to September a dazzling progression of summer produce brings with it a freshness, a sense of excitement and anticipation of what is new. Delia’s Summer Collection takes that as its inspiration, introducing us to the more unusual ingredients that are growing in popularity.
Better yet, this book contains everything a young grillslinger needs to master the fine art of outdoor grilling, from a rundown on the glorious history of man’s BBQing forefathers to the lowdown on the most badass barbies ever created in the history of the world. So, if you would like to revel in setting coals on fire on a sunny day to provide culinary delights for your family... man up and buy this book.
HOWZAT! TESTS We thought in this edition to bring some sporting events that we have not covered before and this Summer in the UK, England will be playing India in a Five Test Series. Then 5 One day Internationals running from 25th August until 5th September.
England are trying to re build their team after the humiliating defeat in the last Ashes series and have got Peter Moores in charge. Whatever Moores achieved, or failed to achieve, during his first spell at the helm between 2007 and 2009 - England lost four of his seven Test series - his reign will mainly be remembered for the row with Kevin Pietersen that saw the captain resign and the coach sacked. Now, following an Ashes whitewash and a failed World Twenty20 campaign that concluded with an embarrassing defeat by the Netherlands, Moores is back, this time without Pietersen to manage. With an assistant, Paul Farbrace, in tow, 51-year-old Moores begins his second period in charge, almost five-and-a-half years after he left in such acrimony. So why, when England are once more looking to rebuild after humiliation in Australia, have they again turned to a man who, at best, had mixed results in his first spell as coach? What has the former Sussex wicket-keeper done in his time away to deserve being reappointed? And what, if anything, will be different about the new Moores regime? So let´s see what happens this Summer, what new players will come in, how will the batsmen and bowlers perform and will the fielding get back to the “held catches” of last Summer. England are rated number 4 in the world of test teams and India number 3 so this series should prove quite a battle.
July:
9th - 13th: England v India, 1st Test, Trent Bridge. 17th - 21st: England v India, 2nd Test, Lord’s. 27th - 31st: England v India, 3rd Test, Southampton.
August: 7th - 11th: England v India, 4th Test, Old Trafford. 15th - 19th: England v India, 5th Test, The Oval. 13

WWI The 4th of August 2014 marks the 100th anniversary of the day Britain entered one of the costliest conflicts in history – the First World War.
agriculture as the men went off to fight. By 1918, they too could join the army and serve their country.
Men enlisted, or were called up, in their millions, being sent to fight in places that many had never heard of before. It was a global struggle. Life changed One hundred years on, we are all forever. Nothing was ever the same connected to the First World War, again. either through our own family history, the heritage of our local communities In the opening moves of the war, both or because of its long-term impact on in the West and the East, the nature of society and the world we live in today. modern warfare soon became clear. Armies were numbered in the hundreds From 2014 to 2018, across the world, of thousands. Modern weapons rapidly nations, communities and individuals caused heavy casualties and laid of all ages will come together to mark, waste to whole communities. Soldiers commemorate and remember the lives went to ground, digging trenches and of those who lived, fought and died in dugouts that soon began to feel almost permanent. the First World War.
Why should we remember? Why should we stop and think about those events that happened so long ago?
The crucible of war also proved very creative. Aircraft developed quickly, taking death and destruction into the sky. New ways of fighting made better and more effective use of huge quantities of shells and bullets manufactured on a scale never seen before.
By the end of the First World War there were very few people in the countries that took part who remained unaffected. The war reached out and The power unleashed by modern war touched almost everyone’s life in some resulted in previously unimagined losses. Over 9 million soldiers died as way or other. a result of the fighting. fronts. Nearly 6 million civilians died from disease or starvation. Almost 1 million more were killed as a direct result of military operations. In all, the estimate of dead resulting from the war stands at over 16 million. And then there were the wounded. More than 21 million. Some recovered. Others were never the same again, either in body or in mind. It was not just people who died. The old world order was also irreparably damaged. Both the Austro-Hungarian and Turkish empires were destroyed. From their ashes a host of new countries emerged, in Europe and the Middle East. Russia was wracked by revolution and became the world’s first Communist state. Monarchies fell. A new world order emerged, with the United States developing a League of Nations that they then opted not to join.
remembering 100 years... The consequences of many of these political changes can be heard today reverberating around the world, nearly a century later. Millions of people across the world still feel a connection with the Great War for Civilisation. They knew the people whose lives were changed by it. They remain moved by the enduring works of art that were created as a response to it. They live with its unresolved political legacies. The First World War created a common sense of history that, decades later, still links people from many disparate nations. Sometimes the First World War feels like distant history. The jumpy black and white films, the unfamiliar clothes and the horses pulling wagons, all look like something from a world long forgotten. Yet the last soldiers who fought in the war have only recently died. Only a few of the 1914–18 generation, who witnessed the war but were too young to take part, are still alive. The war is slipping inexorably beyond the fringes of living memory and, as the Centenary of 1914–18 approaches, we have to work harder to make sure we do not forget. If we want to understand today, we need to know and remember what happened yesterday.
Heroes of WW1 Amidst the slaughter of the First World War, countless people displayed acts of great courage and bravery. Many of these actions were lost in the turmoil of the trenches. These people stand as a representation of the human spirit in the most testing of circumstances.
Nurse Edith Cavell.
Edith Cavell was working as a nurse in Brussels, Belgium, when the Germans invaded and occupied in 1914. With the help of others, she aided many British servicemen to safety. For helping British servicemen to escape she was executed by the German occupying army. Before her execution, amongst her last recorded words were. ‘Patriotism is not enough, I must have no hatred or bitterness to anyone.” - Nurse Edith Cavell.
Baron Manfred Von Richtofen.
Widely known as the ‘Red Baron’ he was the top flying ace of the war, with over 80 credited kills. He became a great hero in his native Germany & was well known on the Allied side. Amongst airmen, there was a mutual respect & a certain code of honour was kept to. He died in April 1918, towards the end of the war.
T.E. Lawrence.
‘Lawrence of Arabia’ T.E.Lawrence was a British officer posted to the Middle East. Against great odds, he raised an Arab revolt against the Turkish army. With a small cache of arms, they harried the Turks; and in one of the most daring attacks of the war, took a small Arab army through the desert to surprise the Turks at Aqaba. Lawrence displayed great love for both Britain and his Arab allies who looked to him as a natural leader.
Wilfred Owen.
Wilfred Owen was decorated with the military cross for bravery in action. However, he is best remembered as one of the greatest war poets. His poems poignantly reflected the paradox between hope and reality of the war.
Drunk with fatigue; deaf even to the hoots, Of tired, outstripped FiveNines that dropped behind. Gas! Gas! Quick, boys! – An ecstasy of fumbling. - From Dulce et Decorum Est. Wilfred Owen was killed by a bullet to the head, shortly before the armistice in November 1918. 23
BENEFITS &of SAVINGS a winter pool cover A properly installed winter pool cover from Real Covers will seal off the pool and keep the water fresh and clean without any filtration and chemicals. The cover keeps out dust and debris. The cover is opaque, preventing any light from entering the pool. Mould and algae cannot grow because there is no light. A central membrane allows rainwater to filter into the pool. Just clean your pool at the end of the swimming season and shut it down.
What do you want from a winter pool cover? • Increased child and pet safety • Reduced maintenance • Keep out leaves and dirt • Savings on pool chemicals • Prevent algae growth • Reduce evaporation and save water • Reduction on energy bills Let your pool hibernate this Winter. Along with the pleasure of owning a pool there is the constant need for regular maintainence to keep the water fresh and clean. For most pool owners, the swimming season on the Costa Almeria is only four to five months; for the remaining seven to eight months the pool is not in use but still needs regular upkeep.
needed until the cover is removed in the Spring. The opaque vinyl canvas is blue or green topside and black or beige underneath which ensures that no light enters the pool and therefore stops microorganism growth. The elastic straps are placed at 50cm intervals and attach to a stainless steel/brass fitting that screws down flat when the cover is not in use. All covers are made with a central membrane which allows rainwater to filter into the pool and exit through the pool overthrow. The cover is removed at the start of the swimming season and simply folded away and stored until needed. We also offer a cover fitting / removal service should you require it. Real Covers have been installing winter pool covers to many local villas for over 20 years. If you would like more information please contact Dany at Real Covers from the advert below.
A specially designed winter pool cover, installed correctly, will seal off the pool and significantly reduce maintainence, chemicals and energy costs.

LIFESTYLE Cherries
boast a laundry list of healing powers. For starters, they pack a powerful nutritional punch for a relatively low calorie count. They’re also packed with substances that help fight inflammation and cancer. As if that weren’t enough, in lab studies, quercetin and ellagic acid, two compounds contained in cherries, have been shown to inhibit the growth of tumors and even cause cancer cells to commit suicide -- without damaging healthy cells. Cherries also have antiviral and antibacterial properties. Anthocyanin, another compound in cherries, is credited with lowering the uric acid levels in the blood, thereby reducing a common cause of gout. Researchers believe anthocyanins may also reduce your risk of colon cancer. Further, these compounds work like a natural form of ibuprofen, reducing inflammation and curbing pain. Regular consumption may help lower risk of heart attack and stroke. In Chinese medicine, cherries are routinely used as a remedy for gout, arthritis, and rheumatism (as well as anemia, due to their high iron content). Plus they’re delicious. How much: Aim for a daily serving while they’re in season locally. And keep a bag of frozen cherries in your freezer the rest of the year; frozen cherries retain 100 percent of their nutritional value and make a great addition to smoothies, yogurt, and oatmeal. Tip: • Buy organic or wash thoroughly, since conventionally grown cherries can be high in pesticides.
Onions
get a bad rap for their effect on breath, but that’s not the only part of the body where they pack a wallop. Onions contain potent cancer-fighting enzymes; onion consumption has been shown to help lower the risk of prostate and esophageal cancers and has also been linked to reduced mortality from coronary heart disease. Research suggests that they may help protect against stomach cancer. Onions contain sulfides that help lower blood pressure and cholesterol, as well as a peptide that may help prevent bone loss by inhibiting the loss of calcium and other bone minerals. Onions have super antioxidant power. They contain quercetin, a natural antihistamine that reduces airway inflammation and helps relieve symptoms of allergies and hay fever. Onions also boast high levels of vitamin C, which, along with the quercetin, battles cold and flu symptoms. Onions’ anti-inflammatory properties help fight the pain and swelling associated with osteo- and rheumatoid arthritis. Onions are also extremely rich in sulfur and they have antibiotic and antiviral properties, making them excellent for people who consume a diet high in protein, fat, or sugar, as they help cleanse the arteries and impede the growth of viruses, yeasts, and other diseasecausing agents, which can build up in an imbalanced diet. How much: For all the health benefits onions provide, it would be ideal to eat one a day. However, if that’s not doable for you, add a few onions to your weekly grocery list and try to eat a little bit every day. All varieties are extremely good for you, but shallots and yellow onions lead the pack in antioxidant activity. Raw onions provide the best nutrition, but they’re still great for you when they’re lightly cooked. And cooking meat at high temperatures (such as on a grill) with onions can help reduce or counteract carcinogens produced by the meat. Tip: • Onions should be stored at room temperature, but if they bother your eyes when you cut them, try refrigerating them for an hour beforehand.

Kiwifruit
This tiny, nutrient-dense fruit packs an amazing amount of vitamin C (double the amount found in oranges), has more fiber than apples, and beats bananas as a high-potassium food. The unique blend of phytonutrients, vitamins, and minerals found in kiwifruit helps protect against heart disease, stroke, cancer, and respiratory disease. Kiwifruit’s natural blood-thinning properties work without the side effects of aspirin and support vascular health by reducing the formation of spontaneous blood clots, lowering LDL cholesterol, and reducing blood pressure. Multiple studies have shown that kiwifruit not only reduces oxidative stress and damage to DNA but also prompts damaged cells to repair themselves. Kiwifruit is often prescribed as part of a dietary regime to battle cancer and heart disease, and in Chinese medicine it’s used to accelerate the healing of wounds and sores. How much: Aim to eat one to two kiwifruit a day while they’re in season, for the best taste and nutrition. California-grown kiwifruit are in season from October through May, and New Zealand kiwifruit are available between April and November. Tips: • Kiwifruit contains enzymes that activate once you cut the fruit, causing the flesh to tenderize. So if you’re making a fruit salad, cut the kiwifruit last. • The riper the kiwifruit, the greater the antioxidant power, so let them ripen before you dig in.

1. Mosquitoes are the deadliest animals on Earth. That’s right, more deaths are associated with mosquitoes than any other animal on the planet. Mosquitoes may carry any number of deadly diseases, including malaria, dengue fever, yellow fever, and encephalitis. Mosquitoes also carry heartworm, which can be lethal to your dog.
6. Mosquito mates synchronize their wing beats to perform a lover’s duet. Scientists once thought that only male mosquitoes could hear the wing beats of their potential mates, but recent research on Aedes aegypti mosquitoes proved females listen for lovers, too. When the male and female meet, their buzzing synchronizes to the same speed.
2. Only female mosquitoes bite humans and animals; males feed on flower nectar. Mosquitoes mean nothing personal when they take your blood. Female mosquitoes need protein for their eggs, and must take a blood meal in order to reproduce. Since males don’t bear the burden of producing young, they’ll avoid you completely and head for the flowers instead. And when not trying to produce eggs, females are happy to stick to nectar, too.
7. Salt marsh mosquitoes may travel up to 100 miles from their larval breeding habitat. Most mosquitoes emerge from their watery breeding ground and stay pretty close to home. But some, like the salt marsh mosquitoes, will fly lengthy distances to find a suitable place to live, with all the nectar and blood they could want to drink.
3. Some mosquitoes don’t bite humans, preferring other hosts like amphibians or birds. Not all mosquito species feed on people. Some mosquitoes specialize on other animals, and are no bother to us at all. Culiseta melanura, for example, bites birds almost exclusively, and rarely bites humans. 4. Mosquitoes fly at speeds between 1 and 1.5 miles per hour. That might sound fast, but in the insect world, mosquitoes are actually rather slow. If a race were held between all the flying insects, nearly every other contestant would beat the pokey mosquito. Butterflies, locusts, and honey bees would all finish well ahead of the skeeter.
8. All mosquitoes require water to breed. Some species can breed in puddles left after a rainstorm. Just a few inches of water is all it takes for a female to deposit her eggs. Tiny mosquito larva develop quickly in bird baths, roof gutters, and old tires dumped in vacant lots. If you want to keep mosquitoes under control around your home, you need to be vigilant about dumping any standing water every few days. 9. An adult mosquito may live 5-6 months. Few probably make it that long, given our tendency to slap them silly when they land on us. But in the right circumstances, an adult mosquito has quite a long life expectancy, as bugs go.
10. Mosquitoes can detect carbon dioxide from 75 feet away. Carbon dioxide, which humans and other animals 5. A mosquito’s wings beat 300-600 produce, is the key signal to mosquitoes times per second. This would explain that a potential blood meal is near. They’ve that irritating buzzing sound you hear just developed a keen sensitivity to CO2 in before a mosquito lands on you and bites. the air. Once a female senses CO2 in the vicinity, she flies back and forth through the CO2 plume until she locates her victim.

When summer arrives so do those annoying mosquitoes. Instead of going the chemical route, here is a collection of mosquito repelling plants to make mosquito control more natural. Basil – Ocimum americanum – has essential oils that can be extracted and used as a spray to repel mosquitoes. It has also been an effective repellent when grown nearby. Bee Balm – Monarda – is a beautiful flowering plant that attracts hummingbirds and, of course, bees. It is also very effective used as a mosquito repellent, when allowing the fragrant oils to be released when the leaves are crushed. Cadaga Tree – Eucalyptus torelliana – can repel mosquitoes simply by being planted in an area where mosquitoes are not wanted. The scent from the tree acts as a barrier to repel mosquitoes. Catmint – Nepeta faassenii – is very effective at keeping mosquitoes away. It is even better than commercial bug sprays at keeping the pests away. Simply, cut off the flowers and boil them to make a spray. Catnip – Nepeta cataria – is an effective mosquito repellent. One of its main active ingredients, nepetalactone, was found to be 10X stronger than even DEET in a recent study. It is a good non-toxic alternative to traditional chemical sprays. Cedars – Thuja species – Many repellent products contain cedar oil as one of its active ingredients to repel mosquitoes as well as other insect pests. Citronella Grass – Cymbopogon nardus is a plant which, when crushed, releases an oil. This oil can be placed directly on the skin to act as a mosquito repellent, or mixed with other oils and liquids to make repellants. Clove – Syzygium aromaticum – a natural mosquito repellent plant you can use as a planting

Give it a shot! by Adele Land
‘Shots’ or ‘shooters’ are probably best known for their part in drinking games, student rituals or groups of teenagers in holiday resorts competing on who can drink the most without falling over. In fact shots have a greater place in history. During prohibition in the US, patrons in illegal drinking establishments needed an alcoholic beverage they could down quickly for fear of being caught and so the shot glass was invented. History also depicts cowboys in western saloons slamming their money on the bar, in return a small glass or hard liquor would be slid along the counter and supped in one go usually followed by a shoot-out. 40
In Mexico, tequila shots were being downed almost a century ago, years before we changed to the name to ‘tequila slammers’ and spent the rest of the night with our heads down the toilet.
and orange liqueur to make the perfect Irish flag.
In recent years shots have seen some kind of renaissance in trendy bars in cities across the globe. Some bartenders have made shot mixing an art form and the list of flavours and concoctions is endless. Gone are the days of a boring yet potent glass of straight liquor, welcome to the world of the ‘kamikaze’ the ‘slippery nipple’ and the ‘orgasm’.
A party wouldn’t be the same without a ‘blow-job’ and by that I refer to a glass of Irish cream and kahlua topped with whipped cream, the idea is to drink it without using your hands and get someone to lick the remains off your face! (Sounds like my kind of party.)
Other popular shots include the Jäeger bomb, a mix of Jäegermeister and Red Bull. The brightly coloured Woo-woo, a delicious mix of vodka, cranberry and peach schnapps. For St Patrick’s day celebrations get the party started with the carefully layered crème de menthe, Irish cream
A favourite with the ladies is the subtle cranberry cookie half cranberry juice and half Disaronno.
Create your own shooters at home with hundreds of recipes available online, try www.drinksmixer.com for some original ideas. The more colourful and unusual the better, just remember to have a taxi number on hand for your guests or get the spare room ready!

Honey Glazed BBQ Marinated Tuna Hurrah, it is that time of year again for BBQ’s. No-one wants to spend hours slaving in a hot kitchen. It is time for the men to do what they do best BBQing!!!!. Although this recipe suggests tuna, you can choose any other fish, meat or even use the marinade & glaze over a mixed pepper and onion skewer.
Ingredients: For the Marinade you will need: • 4 tablespoons of olive oil. • 4 tablespoons of lime juice. • 2 tablespoons balsamic vinegar. • 2 cloves of minced/finely chopped garlic. • 2 tablespoons of finely chopped coriander (optional) • 500g tuna fillets. For the honey glaze: mix 4 tablespoons of honey and 2 tablespoons of olive oil.
Handy tip: • If your BBQ grates need cleaning, try scrunching up some tin foil and use to scrape off debris, ensure that your BBQ is cool and not hot!!.
Method: 1. Mix all of the above (except honey glaze mix) ingredients in large bowl, apart from the tuna. 2. Place the tuna on a large plate or container and cover the tuna in marinade. Leave to marinate for a couple of hours or ideally overnight. 3. To cook ensure that the coals are at a lower heat, place tuna on lightly oiled grate and cook until barely done, basting with the marinade, when the tuna is almost cooked brush the honey glaze over both sides and remove from heat and serve.
Enjoy!

Bill Hicks William Melvin “Bill” Hicks was an American stand-up comedian, social critic, satirist and musician. His material, encompassing a wide range of social issues including religion, politics, and philosophy, was controversial, and often steeped in dark comedy. He criticized consumerism, superficiality, mediocrity, and banality within the media and popular culture, which he characterized as oppressive tools of the ruling class that “keep people stupid and apathetic”. At the age of 16, while still in high school, he began performing at the Comedy Workshop in Houston, Texas. During the 1980s, he toured the United States extensively and made a number of high-profile television appearances; but it was in the UK that he amassed a significant fan base, filling large venues during his 1991 tour. Hicks died of pancreatic cancer on February 26, 1994 in Little Rock, Arkansas, at the age of 32. His body of work gained a significant measure of acclaim in creative circles, and he developed a substantial “cult” following.
Children are smarter than any of us. Know how I know that? I don’t know one child with a full time job and children. “I don’t do drugs anymore... than say, the average touring funk band.” God help me. I’m so tired. I need my sleep. I make no bones about it. I need eight hours a day, and at least ten at night... We all pay for life with death, so everything in between should be free. It seems to me that there will be a point in out development or our evolution where you put your guns aside.

EDY FUNNY JOKES LAUGH COMEDY FUNNY JOKES LAUGH COMEDY
George Carlin George Denis Patrick Carlin was an American comedian, writer, social critic, and actor who won five Grammy Awards for his comedy albums. Carlin was noted for his black comedy as well as his thoughts on politics, the English language, psychology, religion, and various taboo subjects. Carlin and his “Seven dirty words” comedy routine were central to the 1978 U.S. Supreme Court case F.C.C. v. Pacifica Foundation, in which a 5–4 decision by the justices affirmed the government’s power to regulate indecent material on the public airwaves. One newspaper called Carlin “the dean of counterculture comedians.” Have you ever noticed that anybody driving slower than you is an idiot, and anyone going faster than you is a maniac? Most people work just hard enough not to get fired and get paid just enough money not to quit. People who say they don’t care what people think are usually desperate to have people think they don’t care what people think. The very existence of flame-throwers proves that some time, somewhere, someone said to themselves, You know, I want to set those people over there on fire, but I’m just not close enough to get the job done.
From the late 1980s, Carlin’s routines focused on sociocultural criticism of modern American society. He often commented on contemporary political issues in the United States and satirized the excesses of American culture. He was a frequent performer and guest host on The Tonight Show during the three-decade Johnny Carson era, and hosted the first episode of Saturday Night Live. His final HBO special, It’s Bad for Ya, was filmed less than four months before his death.

Vilamartin Costa Blanca
Situated on The Costa Blanca near to La Zenia, Orihuela and Torrevieja, Villamartin golf course was constructed and build by Mr. Putmann and opened in June 1972. Villamartin hosted the 1994 Mediterranean Open which was won by Jose Maria Olazabal after an exciting play-off with Paul McGinley. The Golf Club has an exciting design and many challenges. The course is par 72 and the length is 6132 meters from the white tees, 6037 from yellow, and 5259 from red. A deep ravine is collecting many balls, and an extremely undulated green will be a challenge to most players).

The course is very diverse and unlike many other courses in this part of Spain, none of the holes are equal. One of the challenges is the many old pine and olive trees. Regardless of the challenges one can from several of the holes, enjoy the beautiful view over the Mediterranean Sea. Villamartin golf course has a character that creates a desire to play it again and again.

SUNTAN SUNBURN or
The sun can do much more damage than simply give you painful sunburn. Dermatologists (skin doctors) say that prolonged exposure to sunlight causes brown spots; red, scaly spots; drying and wrinkling; and, worst of all, skin cancer. But how do you avoid the sun? That’s tricky. Sometimes your day at the beach may turn out to be much more sunburned than sandfilled. If your skin doesn’t produce the protective melanin pigment well or if you’re exposed to the sun before enough pigment can be manufactured and dispersed, the ultraviolet rays kill skin cells. Even a mild sunburn that produces only a little redness destroys the top layer of your skin, just as if you had seared it with a hot iron. Despite these increasingly well-known dangers of sun exposure, many of us, on occasion, get lazy when it comes to protecting our skin or just can’t resist the myth that getting some colour from the sun makes us look healthier.
Apply Early and Often
Apply sunscreen 20 to 30 minutes before exposure to allow the skin to absorb it. And reapply it every two hours, more often if you’re sweating or getting wet. If you have fair skin, you might even want to begin preparing for sun exposure the night before by putting on a layer of sunscreen before bed; this will allow it to be thoroughly absorbed into the skin’s outer layer. You can then apply the usual coat of sunscreen the next day, about a half hour before you go outside. The sun can also burn the sensitive skin on the lips just as easily as it fires the rest of your body. At worst, the damage can lead to skin cancer. Use a lip balm with an SPF of at least 15 and reapply often.
Mind the Nose and Feet
Protruding horizontal surfaces like the nose Here are some ways to easily minimize sun present special sun protection problems. exposure so you can spend time outdoors Lifeguards often wear zinc oxide paste on safely. their nose, but it only provides an SPF of about seven. Instead, apply a sunscreen Cover Up with an SPF of at least 15, let it soak in One of the best things you can do is cover a few minutes, and then, for maximum up. The suns rays are most intense between protection, apply the zinc oxide paste. And 11 a.m. and 3p.m. Stay indoors during this if you’ll be going shoeless, you’d be wise time, or if you must be outdoors, cover up to use the same level of protection on the and wear sunscreen. tops of your feet. The Skin Cancer Foundation says that hats and clothing made of dark, tightly woven materials absorb ultraviolet light better than cotton fabrics in lighter shades. Dry fabrics offer more protection than wet ones. Use sunscreen with an SPF of at least 15.
Spread on Sunscreen
The Center for Disease Control and Prevention recommends wearing sunscreen with a sun protection factor of at least 15. Be sure to spread it on thick enough: Applying only a thin coating of a sunscreen can reduce the effectiveness of the product by as much as 50 percent. Waterproof sunscreen is best if you’ll be swimming.
Avoid Sunbathing
Doctors can’t say it enough: There is no such thing as a “healthy tan.” But while sunbathing is a no-no for everyone, it’s an especially bad idea for fair-skinned people. Many of them can’t tan anyway and only risk getting a serious burn. If you refuse to give up sunbathing, take it slowly and let your skin gradually build up melanin to provide some protection. And don’t use tanning oils, which enhance the effects of ultraviolet rays and worsen a burn. You may as well be covering yourself with cooking oil.
Don’t Let the Weather Fool You
Take care on cool, cloudy days. Damaging rays aren’t inhibited by clouds, and you can still get burned because ultraviolet light can penetrate cloud cover. Take precautions even when the sun isn’t shining brightly.
Must have products
Skin preparation: Get your skin activated by using Rougj Attiva Bronz. This product perfect for the fair skinned and hard to tan amongst us. Apply the cream daily, one week prior to sun exposure and you will find that this cream has activated your melanin therefore helping and achieving that golden glow that much quicker. Prevention: P20 sun cream is excellent, with no artificial preservatives, one application per day, lasts for 10 hours and it is waterproof. Available in SPF 10,20,30 & 50. Sunburn: We all know about calamine lotion for sunburn, but in severe cases it is unbearable to apply directly to the skin. This product Synalar Espuna is great, just spray onto affected area for relief. All of these products are available from pharmacies all over Spain.
