Join the Office of International Programs (OIP) for an event that is back by popular demand! The UNC Charlotte campus community is invited to learn how to write their name in a different language. Although Latin is the world’s predominant writing system, hundreds of scripts are used across the globe. UNC Charlotte’s international students hail from over 100 countries, and several of our international student polyglots will be volunteering their time to transcribe your name. If getting your name translated is not enough, OIP isexcited to offer keepsake pins with your name written on it.
Phi Beta Delta Global Perspective Series

Venice has battled rising water levels since the fifth century. Today, the water seems to be winning. Danica Cunico Dal Pra, teaching professor in Italian and coordinator and advisor of the Italian Program and Film Studies, will speak on “Venice is a Fish: Celebration of the Sole Stretched out Against the Deep.” Natural and man-made factors cause Venice to flood, a phenomenon called the acqua alta. Also, the diverse secular culture of Venice is metaphorically sinking: this presentation analyzes the cultural and social decline of the Serenissima, and Her potential Rebirth. This presentation illustrates how such a topic can be incorporated into teaching language, culture or global theme courses.

Education Abroad Faculty-Led Program Development Workshop

UNC Charlotte Education Abroad (EA) holds informational workshops each semester for UNC Charlotte faculty members interested in learning how to develop a short-term study abroad program. This session covers faculty and EA responsibilities, program considerations, program design (i.e. academics, itinerary, budgets) and the proposal process. Please join us to learn more about leading a group of students abroad.
Global Virtual Live

Each year a competitive application process identifies a UNC Charlotte faculty member to serve as a resident director for the program in London. Meet the current resident director, Dr. Nicole Peterson from the Anthropology department as she livestreams from the Royal Borough of Kingston upon Thames. She will be joined by alumni of the program as well as students currently studying abroad at Kingston University. This is a great opportunity to learn about studying abroad in the U.K. or life in Kingston.

International Student Job Search Panel
Lucas Room, Cone Center | 5 P.M. – 6:30 P.M.
This panel presentation touches upon the intricacies of job seeking as an international student. The panel features an international student alumni, a current F1 visa student employed in Curricular Practical Training (CPT), immigration attorney William Hummel, an F1 friendly employer and a representative from the International Student and Scholar Office. Panelists will discuss CPT and Optional Practical Training (OPT) as they integrate into internship/job search within the United States. The panel will be moderated by Jill S. Huerta, assistant dean and director of the Reynolds Center for Graduate Life and Learning.
Carving the Divine by Yujiro Seki Film Screening

Before the film screening, the Nihon Club and the Japanese Studies Program will hold the Dogwood Medal Award ceremony for students who have studied abroad while majoring or minoring in fields outside of Japanese studies. Additionally, a Professor of Religious Studies will provide a brief explanation of Buddhism. Following this, we will watch the film Carving The Divine by Yujiro Seki, with a potential interview featuring the film’s director.
Samba Dance Class

Join us for an engaging, open-level samba dance class in celebration of International Education Week. Immerse yourself in the rich cultural traditions of Brazil, particularly samba, a dance deeply rooted in African Brazilian heritage. Led by skilled instructor Angelica Milner, this class will explore the rhythm, movement, and cultural significance of samba, promoting both cultural pride and cross-cultural understanding. This workshop is an open to the entire UNC Charlotte campus community.

Fulbright U.S. Scholar Faculty Lunch

The Office of International Programs cordially invites faculty members interested in applying to be Fulbright Scholars to a hybrid presentation on Charlotte’s Academic Affairs’ policies surrounding the Fulbright US Scholar program. Joël Gallegos, Associate Provost for International Programs and Fulbright campus liaison, will preside at the luncheon presentation. Participants will also have the opportunity to engage in Q & A with some of Charlotte’s faculty Fulbrighters for more insight into their experiences.

This session will outline the steps of the Fulbright U.S. Student Program grant application process. Attendees will learn about the types of Fulbright grants within the Student Program, strategies for preparing their application essays, ways to obtain effective letters of reference, and how to avoid many common pitfalls in the Fulbright process.
International Song Mini Concert

Organized by professors from three different disciplines- Ginger Wyrick, Dr. Yongling Gorke and Shenen Chen- this concert offers students a unique opportunity to explore new languages and cultures. Capoeira Workshop

We invite you to a special capoeira workshop on Wednesday, November 20th, during the African-Brazilian dance course, open to the entire UNC Charlotte campus community. Led by O’Brien Notes, a skilled capoeira instructor, this workshop will explore the dynamic Afro-Brazilian martial art that blends music, dance, and acrobatics, fostering both physical movement and cultural education. Participants will learn the history and philosophy behind capoeira, which was developed by enslaved Africans in Brazil as a form of resistance and cultural preservation.
Significantly, this event coincides with Brazil’s Cultural Consciousness Day (Dia da Consciência Negra), a national holiday celebrating Afro-Brazilian heritage and resistance to racial oppression.
