ULUM provides an elevated outdoor experience with a contemporary lobby lounge overlooking Canyonlands National Park, hot/cold dipping pools, a full-service restaurant, and our signature safari-inspired suite tents boasting evaporative cooling, Parachute linens, a rain shower, Aesop amenities, and more.

Looking forward, there are several highlights we think you’ll enjoy:

A Mindful Approach

At Under Canvas, we see the Earth as our most precious resource and remain committed to a sustainable future where national parks and open spaces can be enjoyed by all. One of the ways we uphold that mission is through our Mindful Approach, which comes to life through our responsible development practices, innovative design choices, resource conservation efforts, and adherence to DarkSky Principles. Learn more about our Mindful Approach below.

THOUGHTFUL INNOVATION

Pioneering the outdoor hospitality space, we employ thoughtful enhancements designed to elevate the guest experience—through curated adventure programming, culinary innovation, and localized design aesthetics that reflect the surrounding natural environment.

RESOURCE CONSERVATION

Our camps use significantly less water and energy than a hotel of similar size, due to the use of pull-chain showers, faucets that automatically shut off, low-flow toilets, biodegradable utensils, a towel reuse program, and more.

DARKSKY-CERTIFIED SKIES

Five of our camps have been recognized as the first DarkSky-certified lodging

properties in the world, reflecting the company’s use of low-level lighting and exemplary efforts to mitigate light pollution and amplify the night sky.

LAND CONSERVATION

Under Canvas camps—each with, undisturbed green spaces—are designed to minimize disturbance and maximize open space.

GIVING BACK TO NATURE

We have joined forces with The Nature Conservancy to help fund conservation and raise awareness through education, volunteer efforts, and donation programs.

IN GOOD COMPANY

We partner with brands that share our commitment to protecting the planet, and offer some of their products at our camps. These include EO bath products, West Elm furnishings, lululemon apparel, and electric vehicle chargers.

UNPLUG AND RECHARGE

Wi-Fi is intentionally not offered to our guests, so that they can disconnect from technology and reconnect with others throughout their stay.

DARKSKY-CERTIFIED LODGING

Under Canvas Lake Powell - Grand Staircase became the first DarkSky-certified resort in the world in 2023—due to its uniquely remote location, exceptional sky quality, and innovative efforts to protect and preserve the night sky. Today, all five Grand Circle camps—Under Canvas Zion, Bryce Canyon, Grand Canyon, Lake Powell - Grand Staircase, and Moab—are DarkSky-certified and globally recognized as celestial sanctuaries. This industry-leading achievement reflects our commitment to reducing light pollution and amplifying the beauty of the night sky for present and future generations.

 LYRID METEOR SHOWER

APRIL 21

Gaze at these speedy fireballs, a celestial tradition dating back over 2,700 years. Peak viewing offers up to 15 radiant meteors per hour.

 PERSEID METEOR SHOWER

Indulge in celestial-themed treats like Moon & Stars Cheesecake Bites and Cosmic Lemonade, or relax with a Meteor Mimosa as you sip and savor each moment beneath the star-splashed canopy.

At the end of the evening, retreat to our specially designed Stargazer Tents and unwind in a king-size bed while gazing at constellations through a viewing window and falling asleep under a blanket of

stars. Younger adventurers can sleep in their own private, adjacent Kids Tents, equipped with a Starry Night Carousel Nightlight, which allows kids to sleep under the stars while nestled comfortably in their beds.

CELESTIAL CELEBRATIONS

During full moons, new moons, meteor showers, and eclipses, Under Canvas becomes a hub of cosmic celebration. Our communal areas transform into Star Party venues, complete with galacticinspired treats and warm blankets for cozy, starlit gatherings.

Protecting The Night Sky

M ore than 80 percent of the world— and more than 99 percent of the U.S. population—lives under light-polluted skies. However, the effects of light pollution extend far beyond humans’ inability to see the stars.

Artificial light at night disrupts the seasonal cycle of trees, kills millions of birds each year, and has devastated animal species such as fireflies, sea turtles, and bees.

In addition, an estimated five billion dollars are wasted each year on unnecessary outdoor lighting, and 15 million tons of CO2 are emitted each year from residential outdoor lighting alone.

To minimize these effects, we follow DarkSky International’s guidelines at each of our locations. When you return home, follow these steps to help reduce light pollution and amplify the night sky.

 Use lighting only where, when, and as needed

 Point lights downward to limit excess spill

 Utilize timers, dimmers, and motion sensors for efficient use

 Choose low-level, warm-colored lighting
