Now more than ever, we believe that experiences in nature connect us to one another and to the planet in meaningful, inspiring ways. Guided by our Mindful Approach, we prioritize sustainable development, renewable energy, and the preservation of natural beauty in everything we do.
Last year was a season of innovation and tremendous recognition. Our Lake Powell – Grand Staircase camp became the world’s first DarkSky-certified lodging property, and soon after, our four other Southwest locations earned the same distinction. Together, these camps now create the ultimate Grand Circle road trip, offering stunning landscapes and unparalleled stargazing. Again, this season, we will continue celebrating the magic of the night sky through our “We Own the Night” programming, featuring stargazing, celestialthemed events, and more. Meanwhile, ULUM Moab—our new luxury outdoor resort—was recognized by a number of top lifestyle, design, and travel publications, earning two MICHELIN Keys for its elevated outdoor experience.
Looking ahead, there are several highlights we think you’ll enjoy at Under Canvas:
The opening of our first California camp, Under Canvas Yosemite, in May 2025. Set in a mountainside forest just 10 minutes from Yosemite National Park’s west entrance, this idyllic camp offers unmatched access to the area’s many trails, adventures, and iconic natural wonders.
The opening of our first Pacific Northwest camp, Under Canvas Columbia River Gorge, also in May 2025. Nestled in a lush valley with a dramatic driveway that reveals breathtaking views, this location is perfectly positioned for water sports, apple picking, and

At Under Canvas, we see the Earth as our most precious resource and remain committed to a sustainable future where national parks and open spaces can be enjoyed by all. One of the ways we uphold that mission is through our Mindful Approach, which comes to life through our responsible development practices, innovative design choices, resource conservation efforts, and adherence to International Dark Sky principles. Learn more about our Mindful Approach below.
Pioneering the outdoor hospitality space, we employ thoughtful enhancements designed to elevate the guest experience—through curated adventure programming, culinary innovation, and localized design aesthetics that reflect the surrounding natural environment.
Our camps use significantly less water and energy than a hotel of similar size, due to the use of pull-chain showers, faucets that automatically shut off, low-flow toilets, biodegradable utensils, and more.
Five of our camps have been recognized as the world’s first DarkSky-certified lodging properties, reflecting our commitment to preserving the night sky through low-level lighting and exemplary efforts to minimize light pollution. We are a proud sponsor of DarkSky International, the leading authority addressing this global challenge.
Under Canvas camps—each with dedicated, undisturbed green spaces—are designed to minimize disturbance and maximize open space.
We partner with brands that share our commitment to protecting the planet and offer some of their products at our camps. These include EO bath products, West Elm furnishings, and Rivian Waypoint electric vehicle chargers.
UNPLUG AND RECHARGE
Wi-Fi is intentionally not offered to our guests, so that they can disconnect from technology and reconnect with others.
Nighttime at Under Canvas brings out a sight few of us see anymore: the Milky Way and a sky bursting with billions of stars. Visit any one of our Under Canvas destinations and discover some of the best stargazing in the world.
As the sun dips below the horizon, the five desert camps of Under Canvas—Under Canvas Bryce Canyon, Grand Canyon, Lake Powell – Grand Staircase, Moab and Zion—transform into gateways to the cosmos. Located in iconic destinations throughout Utah and Arizona, each camp offers a unique nighttime experience found nowhere else on the planet. Together, they provide adventurers and stargazers with the perfect star-studded itinerary.
In 2023, Under Canvas Lake Powell –Grand Staircase became the first DarkSky-certified resort in the world—due to its uniquely remote location, exceptional night sky quality, and innovative efforts to protect and preserve the night sky.
Today, we are proud to say that all five Grand Circle camps share the distinction and are globally recognized as celestial sanctuaries. This industry-leading achievement reflects our commitment to reducing light pollution and amplifying the beauty of night sky for present and future generations.
At Under Canvas, you’ll enjoy an immersive and unmatched nighttime experience found nowhere else on Earth.
