PLAZA DEL SOL PEDESTRIANISED After two years of delays, may worries about parking and the effect to both residents and tourists of the recent pedestrianisation of Plaza Costa del Sol, we can start to see the plan coming to realisation. Torremolinos town hall has invested €2.5 million so that the renovation of the centre, incorporating 10,000 square metres, provides not only a great place to hold events and live entertainment as they did in 2018, but also to join the popular areas of the town centre.
Since work began at the start of 2018, there has been much local debate about the disruption and risk of negative effects that losing
such a main thoroughfare might cause, but as is often the case, things are turning out just fine. We enjoyed the fantastic musical events, street markets and events held by the local council last year and look forward to many more in coming months, although we have no details as yet. Even McDonalds, with its entrance totally covered by road works and with limited access, does not seem to have suffered too much loss of trade and will benefit greatly when the work is completed as this area will be very much more included withing the retail, dining and vacation experience enjoyed nearby. Although a delay in the progress of the pedestrianisation has postponed the official inauguration until this month, most of the new boulevard and central plaza was opened in time for the switching on of the Christmas lights. The decision to open access to the new boulevard was taken in order to prevent more
harm to the businesses in the area, many of which have been affected by twelve months of disruption caused by the work. The whole of the Avenida Palma de Mallorca and almost all of the Plaza Costa del Sol has been finished and fitted with a central water feature, benches, a stage for cultural performances and a large pergola, which has been named Pergola Torremolinos. Finishing touches are taking place now to make ready for the official opening celebration.. One of the last steps in the project is the burying of a time capsule, which is being placed under the Plaza Costa del Sol. A plaque recording the date of the event will be installed to mark the spot. The town hall has invited residents to submit items to be sealed in the capsule as evidence that might be of interest to future generations, including photographs and artwork, historical data and maps, newspaper articles, or written about Torremolinos.

QR code has become a focus of advertising strategy, since it provides a way to access a brand's website more quickly than by manually entering a URL (The name of a website beginning www) Beyond mere convenience to the consumer, the importance of this capability is that it increases the chance that users will contact with the advertiser as it is so much easier than typing in a long name. Although initially used to track parts in vehicle manufacturing, QR codes are used over a much wider range of applications. These include commercial tracking, entertainment and transport ticketing, product and loyalty marketing and in-store product labeling. Examples of marketing include where a company's discounted and percent discount can be captured using a QR code decoder which is a mobile app, They can also be used in storing personal information for use by organizations. An example of this is Philippines National Bureau of Investigation (NBI) where NBI clearances now come with a QR code. Many of these applications target mobile-phone users (via mobile tagging). Users may receive text, add a vCard contact to their device, open a URI, or compose an e-mail or text message after scanning QR codes. Apps for scanning QR codes can be found on nearly all smartphone devices or downloaded free of charge from Google PlayStore or Apple Store. WOWmundo guides use QR codes to help our readers contact advertisers, download discount or WOWDEAL Vouchers and soon to even book tickets for a show or reserve a table online at your favourite restaurant. Download a scanner today and give it a try, it’s so easy.

El Calvario and Montemar One of the most popular areas and a delightful residential area Montemar stands in the upper part of the town, just above La Carihuela. It is a residential area with its own local train station, Montemar Alto. Its attractions include the Hermitage of Montemar, the nearby pine trees and the Montemar Hotel, now converted into a residential complex of apartments, but which was one of the pioneering hotels in the tourism sector. In this area you shouldn’t miss Parque de La Batería (five minutes from the train station). Explore its streets to see villas and houses that are example of ‘relax architecture’. Also, El Calvario is one of Torremolinos’ most popular neighbourhoods and is in the upper part of the town, to the west of the centre. There are several bus stops, given that a large part of the resident population is concentrated here. On Thursdays there is a very popular street market, and it is an area with typical shops and long-established bars. The suburb is built around the main axis of calle de Rafael Quintana Rosado and its extension into calle Europa. In addition, there is a fountain bringing water from the springs and which people use for their water supplies. In short, a neighbourhood which preserves the essence of the village that was Torremolinos.
La Carihuela The liveliest neighbourhood in town If you want to know the true idiosyncrasy of Torremolinos, La Carihuela is the ideal place – an old seafaring neighbourhood to the west, specifically in the south-west of the town. A good place to start a walk along the seaside can be reached by heading to plaza del Remo. If you walk west, you’ll arrive at Puerto Marina in Benalmádena. If you choose the eastern route, you’ll enjoy numerous shops and restaurants in La Carihuela, admire la Punta or el Morro de Torremolinos, the natural monument which splits the Paseo Marítimo in two, and enjoy the other beaches until arriving at the end of Los Álamos. A pleasant and relaxing experience next to the sea. The inhabitants of La Carihuela originally lived off the fruits of the sea: the tasty fish and shellfish offered by the Mediterranean at this extreme of Malaga Bay. However, the growth in tourism from the 1950s onwards opened new possibilities, chiefly with restaurants and chiringuitos (beach restaurants) where locals and tourists could enjoy the fishing catch. Today the area has been modernised but it retains a large part of its original essence, with traditional shops and narrow lanes evocative of the traditional street layout so typical of Andalusia. A stroll that can be garnish with some of the best gastronomy in town, the high point being the quality of the fried fish. If you wish to enjoy the style known as ‘relax architecture’ there are signature buildings such as the Miami, Tropicana and Pez Espada hotels, and the emblematic Aladino bazaar, a boat-shaped construction. Don’t forget to enjoy its beach, La Carihuela, which is known around the world and has a family atmosphere.
PASEO MARITIMO (The Promenade) The best route along the local beaches, with plenty of culinary and leisure options You will return to the Paseo Marítimo of Torremolinos time and time again. Such are the many sensations, smells and flavours that it will become one of your best experiences. What’s more, the area’s excellent climate will allow you to visit any time of year, whether in the summer to have a refreshing dip or in the winter to enjoy the brilliant rays of the sun, which will make you see why in Torremolinos this season turns into a beautiful and gentle spring. The Paseo Marítimo joins two ends of the municipality: from Saltillo beach to los Álamos beach, in the most easterly point of Torremolinos. It is easy to reach from almost every part of town: to get there, just head towards the sea. It’s divided into two stretches by the natural projections of Punta de Torremolinos, popularly known as El Morro. Overall, it is a long promenade dotted with vegetation, perfect for walking, roller-skating or cycling along the bike lane. A route where you can savour the best fried fish in Malaga, thanks to the quality seaside restaurants, practice yoga on its grassy oasis in the shade of the palm trees, go running in the swash of the sea, do your favourite aquatic sport, enjoy a wine while enjoying the sunset or simply sit and listen to the relaxing wash of the waves while considering yourself lucky.
EL BAJONDILLO Beautiful beaches leading back into the traditional part of the Town El Bajondillo is symbolic of Torremolinos, and one of its essential areas. The authentic and the traditional, the essence of this maritime town, still draw breath in this old neighbourhood. El Bajondillo has one of the town’s best beaches. A walk through El Bajondillo is a fantastic way to really get to know the history of the area, with surprising nooks and crannies, and paths that always end at the sea. It is one of the busiest beaches in Torremolinos, found between Carihuela and Playamar beaches, and can be accessed from the centre through several streets and stairs –known as Paseo de la Playa–, which are closed at night. The Cementerio viewpoint, with amazing views, is found halfway along the route. There are two lifts to get to the beach: a municipal lift which is open all year and goes from plaza del Panorama (calle de las Mercedes) to plaza de los Tajillos, and the hotel Meliá lift, which is normally only open in the summer and closes at lunchtime. Both cost 50 cents per journey. The area can also be reached from the well-known Cuesta del Tajo, riddled with handicraft and souvenir shops, in which you’ll find your memento of Torremolinos, and it is accessed from calle San Miguel. At the crossroads, you’ll be able to see the Torre de los Molinos or Torre Pimentel, and from there observe ruins of some of the mills that still remain. El Bajondillo has a lovely promenade for enjoying the sea breeze at any time of year. And, of course, there are beach restaurants where you can delight in the fried fish and other dishes characteristic of the local cuisine.

CENTRO (The Centre of Town) Hotels, bars and restaurants, shopping, events and great nightlife in Torremolinos The centre of Torremolinos is alive 365 days of the year. Its streets, full of stores and restaurants, are perfect for discovering the way in which tradition and modernity combine in this town perched on the western shore of Malaga Bay. The cuisine is a strong point, offering variety that ranges from tapas, fried fish and shellfish to the finest haute cuisine, with restaurants to suit all tastes. The centre also has a wide assortment of open-air cultural events and an exciting nightlife for visitors wishing to prolong the fun. The centre of Torremolinos has many noteworthy parts, but one stands out above all: calle San Miguel. It is the town’s commercial hub and one of its most visited and bustling arteries. You can find almost anything: bars, restaurants, shops, tourist services, etc. Leisure, culture, fashion, sport, accessories, jewellery and gifts make up a selection for all tastes and ages. It is the town’s true heart, which also beats in streets such as calle Cauce, calle Casablanca and avenida Palma de Mallorca, not forgetting the plazas Andalucía and La Nogalera. Special mention should be made of the redevelopment which plaza Costa del Sol, currently traffic-free, is now undergoing, along with plaza de la Independencia, accessed from calle María Barrabino.
Plaza La Nogalera y Pueblo Blanco GLBTI bars, clubs, restaurants and party zone Plaza de La Nogalera is known for its superb atmosphere, both during the day and at night. It’s the preferred spot for LGTBI tourists and its surrounding areas host a large number of bars, restaurants and businesses of all types. Many LGTBI tourists choose Pueblo Blanco for accommodation during their holidays, a charming old complex of Andalusian-style apartments, with fountains, vegetation, small plazas and many nightlife establishments, right next to La Nogalera. The local train station is located in this plaza in central Torremolinos, only a few minutes’ journey from the airport, María Zambrano intercity train station, the centre of Malaga or Fuengirola, and other parts of the town. Timetables and journey times are available on the RENFE website. This section of Torremolinos is famous worldwide as an amazing Gay Hot Spot, attracting people from all over the globe to bars, clubs, beach parties and festivals held throughout the year in the Town. On par with Brighton, Blackpool, San Francisco and Amsterdam, Torremolinos benefits greatly from the colour, fun and entertainment the community bring to town all year round, including some of the best DJ’s in the world and truly amazing Drag Acts of a standard not found anywhere else in Spain. Residents and tourists outside the GLBTI community visit this area for the fantastic music, fun atmosphere and happy people having a great time.
PLAYAMAR The beach of Playamar, in the urban municipality of Torremolinos, is 18 km from the city center, and is located between Los Alamos beach and Bajondillo beach. The also called Retiro beach, is dark sand and moderate waves, and has an area of ? 1,000 meters in length and 50 meters in average width. Due to its characteristics, this beach is ideal for water sports such as windsurfing, sailing or scuba diving. We can also play volleyball in the nets that are installed in the arena. In summer season we can find kiosks, hammock rental services and nautical equipment such as pedal boats. In addition, in the hot months we can enjoy the shows that are organized there. The beaches of Torremolinos stand out for their animation during the day and night, this is what happens thanks to its high offer of beach clubs. We highlight:
Moliere beach A good place to eat during the day while the sun's rays tan your skin lying in a hammock or where to dance to the most varied music at night. Maracas Los Alamos: enjoy the night and day with the best atmosphere, the best music and of course, all the comforts at your fingertips. Sofas, Balinese beds, sunbeds ... all on the beach. Every night there will be events that will make you dance until three in the morning.
Los Alamos A big beach with the best promenade in Torremolinos Los Álamos is one of the most vibrant areas of Torremolinos, with something for people of all ages. It is the most remote part of the town – a youthful and cosmopolitan neighbourhood, full of entertainment. Its beach, also called Los Álamos, is the epicentre. There are many beach clubs where, from the sand, you can enjoy the best music during the day and for part of the night. What’s more, Los Álamos has traditional open-air restaurants and other places to enjoy the local cuisine. On Los Álamos beach you’ll find fine sand to put your towel on and enjoy the sun all year round. In addition, you can undertake a plethora of sporting activities which range from cycling to surfing. In short, a big beach with a long promenade and a leisure area that is a must-do on your visit to the Costa del Sol.

Whether chasing the title, aiming for promotion, or looking to avoid relegation, managers will be looking for their chairmen to pull out the chequebooks to sign the players who can make that crucial difference. Paul Pogba, Isco and Adrien Rabiot are just some of the names being linked with a transfer. Let’s take a look at players who could be on the move in January. PAUL POGBA (25, midfielder, Manchester United)
The biggest name on the list. The world's most expensive player at the time of joining Manchester United from Juventus for £89m in 2016, BBC Sport's gossip column has been packed with reports that Pogba's time at Old Trafford could end for the second time this January. Dropped from the team in December, including against rivals Liverpool, the France World Cup winner has been of interest to former club Juventus amid reports of a £125m bid, with Barcelona and PSG also said to be circling. But the departure of manager Jose Mourinho, with whom he had a fractured relationship, has lifted the gloom at Old Trafford and it remains to be seen whether a more liberated role in the side changes circumstances for Pogba or not. DANNY DRINKWATER
as well as a healthy looking trophy cabinet, Cahill would not be short of offers from top clubs in the Premier League, Championship and, perhaps more surprisingly, Serie A. Elsewhere, Bayern Munich have reportedly made a £20m bid for Chelsea teenager Callum Hudson-Odoi, while teammates Cesc Fabregas, Victor Moses and Andreas Christensen may also be out. BRAHIM DIAZ (19, midfielder, Manchester City)
Diaz is out of contract in the summer and is growing frustrated with limited first-team opportunities. The Spain Under-21 international is one of the country's brightest prospects and may follow in the footsteps of Jadon Sancho by trying his luck outside the Premier League. Reports in Spain say La Liga giants Real Madrid have agreed a £13.6m deal, with the player to receive £60,000 a week. JERMAIN DEFOE (36, striker, Bournemouth)
Former England international Defoe has found game time hard to come by this season, playing fewer than 30 minutes in the Premier League. Seventh on the Premier League's all-time top scorers list with 162 goals, Defoe is a proven finishers and could do a short-term job for a team in need of a striker, despite his advancing years.
day in the summer of 2017, but missed filing the paperwork by 14 seconds. He stayed at Sporting Lisbon and did not play until January. But 12 months on from his debut and only 19 appearances later (three this season), Silva now seems to be heading back to his old club in Portugal. TOM HEATON (32, goalkeeper, Burnley)
Having missed most of last season with a shoulder injury, Heaton's number one spot at Turf Moor was taken by England international Nick Pope, and he fell further out of the reckoning after the signing of Joe Hart in the summer. Though he has recently been restored to the starting line-up, Heaton may want more guaranteed game time, with Championship sides Aston Villa and Leeds interested. STEVEN DAVIS (33, midfielder, Southampton)
Despite Southampton's struggles in the league, ex-captain Davis has barely featured this season. His luck has not changed under new manager Ralph Hasenhuttl, and the Northern Ireland international is likely to be allowed to leave in January. A return to Rangers seems his most likely move, with manager Steven Gerrard recently calling Davis "a top player and a great guy".
(28, midfielder, Chelsea)
Premier League winner Drinkwater's move to Chelsea has not gone to plan - he even missed out on their Europa League squad. His only appearance this season came in the Community Shield loss to Manchester City and he has been told by manager Maurizio Sarri he can leave. The 28-year-old former Leicester player would add some steel in the middle of the park, and a reunion with ex-Foxes boss Claudio Ranieri at Fulham is a possibility. GARY CAHILL (33, defender, Chelsea)
Another Chelsea outcast who has failed to break into the team under Maurizio Sarri, Cahill is down the defensive pecking order at Stamford Bridge and has been told he is free to go. Possessing plenty of experience on the club and international stage,
DOMINIC SOLANKE (21, striker, Liverpool)
Solanke, who has won one cap for England, is yet to make a first-team appearance for Liverpool this season, having failed to make the breakthrough expected of him. Numerous Premier League sides are interested in a loan move and Solanke has also been linked to clubs in the Championship as well as outside England. Also look out for whether goalkeeper Simon Mignolet stays at Anfield, with the Belgian firmly second choice behind summer signing Alisson. ADRIEN SILVA (29, midfielder, Leicester)
What a farce this transfer has turned out to be for Leicester. The Foxes agreed to sign the midfielder for £22m on deadline
OUMAR NIASSE (28, striker, Everton)
Niasse netted eight Premier League goals for Everton last season but has since been restricted to four substitute appearances in the league and has reportedly been made available for transfer by the Toffees. Given Niasse was signed for about £13m in 2016, manager Marco Silva will have to accept a cut-price deal to sell the Senegal striker, who could provide Cardiff and Huddersfield with the firepower they need. Team-mate James McCarthy has returned to full fitness after a double leg break and might also be allowed to leave on loan.
