EFFICIENT LIGHTING FOR THE KARL C- PARRISH JR. LIBRARY - UNINORTE.

The current lighting system of the Universidad del Norte library is old, as it is made up of lamps and equipment that are more than 20 years old, which do not comply with current regulations and have a negative environmental impact on the carbon footprint. Two lighting system improvement solutions are proposed, evaluating the technical requirements for compliance with the minimum levels of illuminance of RETILAP (Technical Regulation of Lighting and Public Lighting) and validating the energy and economic feasibility. Proposal 1 consists of replacing fluorescent tubes with LED tubes, an energy saving of 52.2% is achieved with the implementation of this proposal and a payback period of 3 years. From proposal 2, the total redesign is carried out, implementing an energy efficient design, with this proposal a saving of up to 57% is achieved. Both proposals apply the use of dimmable control through continuous dimming to take advantage of the natural light that enters through the windows. The reduction of the carbon footprint was analyzed by performing an energy analysis and the C02 emissions that are avoided by reducing energy consumption.
