DESIGN OF AN OPTIMIZATION MODEL FOR THE LOGISTIC PROCESS OF RESIDUAL BIOMASS COLLECTION IN THE MUNICIPALITY OF GALAPA, ATLÁNTICO.

Nowadays there exist different countries and world powers that consider implementing strategies and actions that create environmental awareness by using renewable resources an important matter. The Atlántico Department has municipalities that have within reach an important quantity of natural resources that can be exploited to produce energy, Galapa municipality is a great example as it contains a lot of cattle that produces residual Biomass that when obtained can work as raw material for generation of energy, however, this resource has not been used appropriately for the generation of renewable energy in the municipality. This project consists in the design of an optimization model that reflects the optimal route for the logistic process of residual biomass recollection in the municipality of Galapa, Atlántico. Initially the optimization model is proposed by a linear programming model, conformed by an objective function and different restrictions in a way that delivers the optimal route of the distances between the collection points, focusing on minimizing costs. This model was developed from an Excel tool called solver, that can solve linear programming models by placing the objective function and the restrictions, which provided us with the optimal route with the minimum distances needed for the minimization of costs. From the model we obtain that from the segmented areas there exists an optimal route for the recollection of the raw materials, in a way that the travel distances are minimized, so the carbon footprint and costs can be reduced. The route obtained for route 1 starts in Los Pocitos and goes through the points B-C-A D-E-G; for route 2 it starts from Los Pocitos, through F-P-K-M-L-N-O-Q-R-S-H-I-J.

LAYOUT AND PRODUCTION PROCESS DESIGN WITH QUALITY CONSIDERATIONS FOR THE PRODUCTION OF BIOGAS FOR ENERGY GENERATION PURPOSES FOR RURAL AREAS IN COLOMBIA.

As is well known, fossil fuels are of limited quantity on the planet, and yet, they are the most common sources of energy that are being used today, which leads to thinking about the problem of diversification of energy sources in Colombia. Additionally, our current world has a need for more environmentally friendly power generation processes as the issue with climate change becomes more and more obvious. Therefore, this project explores the background of the problem in question, proposes and evaluates the different alternative solutions under the industrial engineering approach in order to choose the better one. The production process of biogas made through the anaerobic digestion of biomass, taking into account the high heat value of the biomass used was designed, along with the layout required to optimize the process. The results contain a process diagram, a model focused on predicting the high heat value of the biomass that enters the process, and finally an optimal layout that was designed using the SLP method.
