DESIGN OF A MANAGEMENT MODEL FOR THE RECOVERY AND USE OF PET PLASTICS IN THE CITY OF BARRANQUILLA SUPPORTED BY THE CANVAS METHODOLOGY.

The inefficient management of solid waste generates environmental problems that affect all ecosystems and living beings on the planet. PET plastics, being one of the most abundant solid wastes on our planet, are one of the most negative impacts on the environment due to their inadequate management at the end of their life cycle. The city of Barranquilla, like many other cities in the world, faces this problem and the main affected are its aquatic ecosystems. The trend of PET plastic consumption is growing, so in this project we propose to design a PET plastic management model in the city of Barranquilla to maximize the recovery and use of this material, thus reducing the problems generated by it and returning it to the production cycle. For this we initially investigated to have the conceptual, normative and referential bases, then we proposed different solutions and chose the best according to the criteria we proposed, after this we segmented the target population of the model and proposed the model based on the CANVAS methodology to define the components of the model, finally we performed the evaluation and analysis of the model through an environmental, economic, risks and opportunities analysis. This project resulted in a PET management model based on separation at the source and a mobile application for the commercialization of PET waste. This model integrates actors of the PET chain such as generators, consumers, recyclers and transformers, and eliminates intermediaries that take a large part of the profits and generate additional costs in the PET recycling chain. The project is economically sustainable and reduces the environmental impacts generated by PET waste, reintegrating it into the production cycle and thus promoting the circular economy and reverse logistics.
